I ordered a dish from their seasonal asparagus menu, which was very tasty. The schnitzel was fried well without being too dry and the asparagus was huge, but still delicious. The servers and, I believe, the owners seemed to know everyone. We speak only rudimentary German and only one young woman spoke a bit of English. But we were still treated great. We muddled through the menu with what we knew and some guesses and a bit of help with Google translator. My wife went with the white asparagus risotto while I ordered one of the specials which we paired with a bottle of Riesling. Now to be fair I knew I was ordering a meat per the German word "fleisch". But I didn't recognize the type. Well "sülzfleisch" it turns out was a type of headcheese, home made, with a sauce on the side and baked potatoes. I was surprised but dug in. We decided to sit outside, but because it started to drizzle, we went inside. We paid for our drinks outside and brought them in with us. The waiter was not friendly. Asked if we had paid for our drinks, I said we paid outside. I'm not sure if he believed me. When he finally came to take our drinks outside order, he seemed irritated with us. We got our drinks and order our meals. Our meals arrived very quickly and everything was wonderful. However, upon closing our bill, the waiter got very angry with me saying something about good service and no tip. We are literally in Germany where you don't tip. It's a cool place to see, but I'm not sure I would go back.

It seems like almost all of the people in there know each other and are good friends. The seating is community style, so they will just sit you wherever there is a spot. We sat with 3 other people at a small round table. The place was packed, so we were lucky to get a seat. Maybe that was because of the soccer game, but either way it is not a large place, so I could see that being the norm. The waitress will very quickly come around with some Kolsch beer, and mark your coaster for every drink you get (they will just keep bringing them until you say stop). It seems like that is all they really serve- I did not see one single other type of beer/drink being served. They serve it in smallish glasses, so it stays fresh and cold. They have one menu with about 12 different choices. I asked a local what he recommended, and he did not disappoint. We got a fried pork chop with potatoes and salad, and a sausage with a carrot/potato mash, and brussel sprouts. Everything was delicious, and the portions were plenty large. For 2 dinners and 5 beers, we paid about 25 euros. Not bad at all considering the quality, portion sizes, and friendly service.
