I have moved to Deptford. I am officially a Southerner but I am so happy! One of the reasons why is because I have this fantastic market right on my door step! Sure it's filled with bits and bobs of tat but there's also flower, fish, meat, clothing, street food and oh so many wonderful stalls to explore. We wondered round for about half an hour just to suss out the situation but I loved every minute. Filled with bright colours, wonderful smells and smiley, happy people. I even stopped to try some authentic Italian cuisine at a little stall called LovingEAT - Andrea was ridiculously friendly and talked us through his menu. The Arancino was delicious and very authentic - I'll be back! We also bought a beautiful orchid from a flower stall for just £3.50! I will be back next weekend to explore again and I have a feeling this will become a regular Saturday adventure! Definitely recommend for truly authentic London market experience. read more

I love this flea market! Its full of oddities and curios... If you love to rummage around and find that gem amongst the rubbish. Then you will love this place. You can find clothes, shoes, books, Cd's and bric n brac at bargain prices. Today, I found a lovely clock. Cheap as chips as David Dickinson would say. But they also had Hornsea china which sells for a lot of money on eBay. There are oddities like half drunk bottles of spirits and ancient jars filled with faded spices. Yuk! But don't ask for a discount as they don't haggle. read more

If you want to see history just look up at the tops of these buildings. I don't actually shop here but there are some cheap items on offer for the household and a poundshop too. In fact, I only actually bought some storage containers here a few years ago. So why do I come here, well it's the history. Deptford was once a very wealthy area in London but by some stroke of madness on the part of planners it was decided it would be turned into a 'slum' - displacing residents, dodgy plans and schemes of imminent domain for homes that were not at all crumbling. Anyway, fast forward - there are very few people for the original Deptford still in the area; the ones that do remain are the keepers of an interesting history of the area. I like coming here and walking up and down the street looking up - that is where you see the original facades of the buildings of the past and ponder what was in the open spaces like Hales St. just off Depford Market. Some quirky spots have replaced the original domiciles but for me, it's all about the history of Deptford. #LiveLifeLikeLDN read more

I love this market! not as dumpy as the east street markets, but still a good places to get cheap fruit and veggies. And i'm biased, it's 2 steps away from my flat. The only bummer is that it's only open 2 days a week (wed and sat). Would be nice to have it 1 extra day and give me something to do on a boring sunday. The market isn't very large, but it's not small either. You can get good bargains here, but at the same time you can get overpriced junk. Just last week I saw a laundry basket for £20. Really? Argos... £10. But all and all, a nice market. read more

Wander down Deptford High street Wendsdays and Saturdays and be amazed about the rubbish people sell and even more amazed about the rubbish you end up wanting so bad you have to buy it. No it's not huge but it goes down the top stretch of the high street and in a dodgy car park in an off street. It's got all your usual market ware, dodgy overpriced saucepans, materials, union jack leggins and your fruit and veg. But just round that corner, in the dodgy car park is an outside emporium of... crap, pure crap. Barbie doll heads, used hair combs strapless handbags.... However in and among all that tat you'll find an awesome kitsch typewriter, only missing its F, E and X. Or a 1920's table lamp that would complete your life. Top tip, be ready to rummage. read more

Deptford Market is a haven for bargain hunters - whether food, antiques and brc-a-brac or household goods - and is open on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. There are three distinct parts to Deptford Market: Deptford High Street offers market stalls selling food and produce as well as household goods, clothes, jewellery and accessories and is lined with shops of the £1 variety as well as those specialising in Indian, Vietnamese, West African, Chinese, Pakistani, Sri-Lankan, Cambodian and Turkish cuisines - there are at least three bakeries, several butchers and perhaps best of all, the last Goddards Pie Shop to the North of the High Street, beyond the train station, for traditional London fare; Giffin Square and Douglas Way on the other hand feature everything from fresh fish, to discount designer clothes, shoes, pet products, electronics, plants and unusual gifts with Douglas Way hosting a flea market on Saturdays for antiques, collectibles and unusual second-hand clothes. This is one of London's last tradional neighbourhood markets. As the area becomes increasingly gentrified - so far - it seems the market remains unaffected. Time will tell. To keep it alive and also to enjoy a sense of London at it's best do visit. read more

Hustle and bustle is the sound you should here from any good market place. If you listen carefully you will be sure to here it hear in Deptford. Multicultural in abundance as you will find the UN (united nation) walking along the road. This place has everything from exotic ingredient and foods to hardware and clothes. Like I said in my tip, make sure you grab anyone of the lunch time meal deals on offer at noodle king, the orient and good friends! This is my local market, and it's great: a real market, with no tourist content. On Douglas Way are the second-hand stalls; among the junk are some hidden gems at bargain prices. There are also food stalls with everything from Jamaican patties to international fruit and veg, bargain chocolate, and fresh fish; jewellery, CDs and DVDs, religious books; housewares, bedding, curtains and fabric; and the ubiquitous clothes stalls, some selling chain store brands. As the previous reviewer suggested, regeneration for the local area is planned, but for now at least Deptford Market is a genuine and interesting place to pick up some bargains. It also has the great advantage of running most of the day - some of us like a lie-in at the weekends! Saturdays are busiest, but the market is also held on Wednesdays and Fridays. read more

A great market which caters for all tastes, Fruit and Veg, both average and exotic, Clothes and Shoes, and there is also a second hand market too. It is a real hive of multiculture, and you can get some brilliant bargains if you keep your eyes open. It stretches alongside the Albany Centre too. There are some fab Bakers there, I can never visit without buying a cream doughnut! read more

To see Deptford market as it is, come sooner rather that later. The area is undergoing regeneration, meaning that its local market is under threat from property developers, chain stores and coffee bars. The atmosphere is excellent, with soundtracks from countries across the globe reverberating from every stall. Plantains, yams, okra and tindola (a type of Indian gourd) sell alongside live eels and electrical goods. Charity shop chic, as well as plenty of knock off imports can be seen a-plenty. However, amongst the rubbish there are plenty of hidden gems. read more

Deptford market is the place to find a bargain on a Saturday or Wednesday. As well as the shops lining the high street you get a plethora of fruit and veg folk selling their wares - my favourite is the Pound a bowl man on the corner near Barclays - you'll get all the weird and wonderful veg as well as your normal apples and pears and it is great quality. Looking for herbs and spices then check out the green gorcers for 5 bunches of coriander for £1 if you are lucky, fresh spinach and bags of scotch peppers. If you are lucky you'll pick up a high street bargain as well - spent winter in a Monsoon coat - £20 and Summer in a jacket from Red Herring - £10 - all new! Move further up the high street and on a Wednesday you can find the man with magazines - many top titles for sale at bargain prices. I shop here every week and always enjoy the experience and the great value for money - forget a large supermarket for your fruit and veg! read more

Oh my! What a trip down memory lane this was for me. I grew up just down the road on the boarder between Deptford and Lewisham till I was 10, and I remember going to Deptford market with my mum as a kid, but this is the first time I've been here as an adult and it felt quite different. It was a Wednesday when I was there I believe and there was a mix of fruit and veg stalls and other regular market type stalls and bric-a-brac stalls (I don't remember these from when I was a kid, but maybe they were there). I have to say the area felt a lot more grubby than I remember it being when I was a child, and somehow not as friendly sadly. There also seemed to be a lot more food stalls than I remember, and selling a huge different range of food types too. I remember as a kid my mum left her purse on the roof of someone's car, and they brought it home to her!!! I mean somehow I can't imagine that happening today in this area you know. read more

Well let me start describing what it used to be like, when i used to work in one of the shoe shops along Deptford market about 8 years ago it was a very busy market with soo much on offer to everyone. But with higher prices of shop rental and lower demand it ahs gone a lot down hill. If you like a market that sells cheap tat you will find it here, loads of in and out shops selling £1 items to your hearts content, but back in the day you used to be able to pick up a quality bargain, but i just don't feel there is much there anymore worth while. Even the bloke at the end of the market, who used to say I won't do it for £10 not £8, but for you good people £5 yes just £5, has even moved on now. I feel its an end of an Era. read more

This is one of my favourite markets in London. It's messy, junky and diverse and there are good deals to be had if you're willing to take the time to dig for them. There's a little bit of everything. I can usually manage to find most of my groceries there at decent prices. I love that it hasn't gentrified yet. I'm really afraid of what it will look like when some of the new housing developments open nearby. Tip: take cash with you. Most vendors only take cash and there are always long queues at the cashpoints. read more

yes, it's definitely one of my favourite places to peek. on planet water, this bit is known as vega fair, space port and magic market. it may look like they have a dolls leg, or a half used bottle of nail varnish to us, but for holiday makers from further away it could be an essential item. i recently got a great black pure wool coat, long, warm, brand new with the british rail worker logo inside. i love it. £10! baaaaargain. read more

A fantastic little gem in the middle of what can only be described as a s* hole! Deptford market, from the outside looks a little scruffy, but have a wander in and you will find all sorts! It is such a multicultural market - you can buy anything and everything and if you don't see it - I bet your bottom dollar someone can get it for you! There are also some weird and wacky shops around the edge of the market - like the Londis on the bottom corner that actually sells crack pipes!!! But if you want to buy some weird and wonderful fruit and veg have a wander down and have a look around - guaranteed you wont walk away empty handed. read more

If you live locally and you want somewhere to find cheap fruit and veg, clothes, and household items then this is the place to go on a Saturday or a Wednesday. The variety is not as good as it once was but there are still plenty of bargains to be had, and the fruit and veg is good quality and reasonably priced. Bric a brac stalls and a flea market also operate, and there are a number of cheap shops lining the market street where you can pick up most household items you could want or need. There is also a fresh bread stall and a number of butchers, meaning you can get most of your weekly shops at a good value and good quality. read more

I just happened to see Michelle's review, and the words "Un-matching shoes" jumped out at me, taking me back to 1957ish, I was just a child, but I remember the market so well. There was a chap who worked with my father, they were both dustmen ,this chap had a stall on the market selling only shoes and boots, which had been picked up on their rounds, thus he was known as "Bootsy".Wouldn't it be wonderful if somebody else out there remembers him, or maybe even a relation. I moved away to Southend with my parents in 1965, but I am planning a visit in the summer, a trip to the market is definitely on the agenda.. read more
