While much of the shop's morning trade comes from commuters, later in the day, and at weekends, the shop is frequented by locals and visitors alike who uphold the ancient purpose of The Coffee Shop: discussion of local, political and creative issues. Because Brown's does better coffee. That's not to say Broca's coffee is bad, it's still of a great quality, brewed up by friendly, chatty staff. But then why do I prefer Broca? Essentially it's the atmosphere. Brown's is lovely and clean and orderly, and whilst the staff there are friendly and charismatic, it still feels a little clinical. However, the Broca is full of eclectic furniture and wall fixtures and feels so much more like a coffee lounge and it's incredibly easy to relax and wile away the hours over a decent coffee and a tasty muffin. Not to mention there's the book swap, the children's play area (I don't have kids myself, but thought it's a nice touch), and the huge notice board keeping you up with all things Brockley. In short, it feels much more like a cosy part of the Brockley community, which I suppose is a what makes me frequent Broca more than their next-door rivals. I suppose it just depends what you want from coffee shop. Amazing coffee = Brown's. A nice place to relax and feels cosy, with a rather good coffee = Broca.

The lemon curd with raspberry was phenomenal. Perfect for a lighter yet still satisfying sweet tooth. The cookies were equally delicious. Ginger and dark chocolate took me by surprise with the flavor combo. The white chocolate and lemon complimented the ice cream perfectly. Checkout was fast and easy. What more could you ask for? This was a great little place and a nice alternative to the bigger chains. I can't wait to check out the rest of their house brands because they definitely know how to put together flavors.

Lidl is famous for being cheap - yes it is cheap but the way it is organised is completely nonsensical and it makes picking up a couple of bits a real mission. The cheese is next to the toiletries, the fish is next to the alcohol and amongst all of that you will be forced to brave an array of calculators, chests of drawers and fleeces. Random. They are starting to accumulate some main brands in the store but the general quality isn't that great and the Lidl alternatives aren't very appealing. You also have to pay 5p per plastic bag which is a little tight methinks. A word of warning; if you go in, you can't just walk out - instead you have to squeeze through the queues.

A pair of suede leather gloves with cashmere lining for only £2.99 in the sale, and I managed to get a whole load of car accessories for less than a fiver each. The best buy was a digital tyre gauge which came with built in torch, a blade for cutting the seat belt, and a hammer for cracking the windows if need be - batteries included. All my baking essentials are bought here too. Dr Oeteker piping icing for 49p - yes please! And cartoon character socks for only 99p for two pairs (they were marvel ones, or you could have hello kitty, minnie mouse, or homer simpson ones. So the queues to pay can be a bit daunting on a Saturday so avoid peak times and go in the morning or mid morning. Not ever a bad as Asda though!

Sure it's filled with bits and bobs of tat but there's also flower, fish, meat, clothing, street food and oh so many wonderful stalls to explore. We wondered round for about half an hour just to suss out the situation but I loved every minute. Filled with bright colours, wonderful smells and smiley, happy people. I even stopped to try some authentic Italian cuisine at a little stall called LovingEAT - Andrea was ridiculously friendly and talked us through his menu. The Arancino was delicious and very authentic - I'll be back! We also bought a beautiful orchid from a flower stall for just £3.50! I will be back next weekend to explore again and I have a feeling this will become a regular Saturday adventure! Definitely recommend for truly authentic London market experience.

Be prepared for overpriced food, highly-variable (and unpredictable) hours, and the company of people wearing suits. 2. This place. It's not the best Tesco Express I've seen. They have a rather small selection of ready-to-go meals, and I think they only get one delivery of pastries per day. But they're open early, they're open late, and their prices are good, in spite of being the only food option for the numerous hotels and upscale residential developments that have gone up nearby. Go Tesco!
