first things first, i want to clarify that i'm quite nervous around needles. anytime i have a blood…read moretest or get a vaccine, i always make it a point to tell the nurse that i am very nervous and a bit scared (despite nothing bad ever happening, like, ever)... so naturally i was very nervous about getting my ears pierced. i walked into the store one day after yelping for a tattoo + piercing spot because i have been thinking about getting my ears (re)pierced for years now (i got them pierced maybe 15 years ago at Claire's and didn't wear earrings back then for many reasons so the holes closed up). i asked a couple questions to Kyle who was at the front of the house and i really appreciated how straightforwardly they answered my questions. Kyle spoke matter-of-factly without making me feel silly for asking simple questions as a grown adult. i also really appreciate speaking to someone instead of just panicking while reading the FAQ page over and over!! fast forward to a month later, i made an appointment to get my lobes pierced! taylor was my piercer and they were absolutely wonderful to be in the care of. i told them exactly how nervous i was and they didn't sugarcoat that i'd definitely feel it -- it would hurt like a pinch hurts and i'd feel some heat, this is natural -- and they jokingly reassured me that if i hated the first piercing, i could stop at one (lol). it's been 8 weeks with my studs in and they've healed amazingly. taylor not only did an amazing job with the piercing, but they gave me really concise care tips and a business card with their info in case i needed to reach out about my piercings. i don't think i can sing high enough praises of the folks at new tribe! TL;DR: - spoke with kyle at the front of house and was pierced by taylor. both were absolute gems of human beings - overall very pleasant and calm experience as a nervous person - very knowledgeable and non-judgmental - thorough website w/ FAQs - would definitely come back if i ever wanted more piercings!! - studs are flat back - variety of studs to pick from for the piercing (some with price upgrades)

From there, they were able to give me a price estimate, match me with a suitable artist, and schedule my appointment. They required an $80 + tax deposit (nonrefundable) which is deducted from the total price of the tattoo. I did have to reschedule my appointment once, which they accommodated. However, their rules/fine print does seem a bit complicated for rescheduling if you need more than two. Upon entering the shop, there was no one at the front desk (I had an 11:00 AM appointment), but another artist working there pointed me towards the waiver. My artist came in and seated me, then we discussed the tattoo I wanted. She was able to make the requested changes to the type (I got a script tattoo) on the spot, and we got to tattooing! I had Athena and she made me feel super comfortable throughout the experience, making sure to check in on me every few minutes. The interior has a great design, is sanitary, and filled with nice artists and staff. I also love that there's such a high quality, reputable tattoo shop in Markham! (And I didn't have to make the trip downtown) I'd love to come back here!

I have complete trust that Kadie ensures the safety of everyone in the shop by being absolutely meticulous about cleanliness. I have some health anxieties and I am put so at ease by Kadie because she has extremely high standards for cleanliness and safety at Elevated. She lets me watch her sterilise all the stuff she uses on my body, which makes me feel as comfortable as possible about getting work done, and she safely discards everything once it's touched a person to further reduce any risks. I came to Kadie initially because of fussy piercings done elsewhere and she went above and beyond to help me with them. When I got my second lobe piercings done by her, it was an awesome experience. She answered all my questions and set me at ease. She was available afterward for follow ups and any questions I had. My piercings are healing much better than other times I've been pierced at other places and I know it's because Kadie is a very experienced, knowledgable and talented piercer. Also, the other staff at the shop are all lovely. One of the other piercers, Ryan, was able to provide me a helpful second opinion when I was having some aftercare issues and do a jewellery upsize for me. Everyone I've talked to that works here is welcoming and chill. The space is very 2SLGBTQIA+ friendly and I love that especially. It's also pretty, bright with natural light, tidy and welcoming. When I came back for my appointment, Glennie was her usual self: kind, friendly and full of energy. It was on my side and I was in love with the process from start to finish. My next tat which was done today was a lot smaller than my other one but again, the process was seamless and pain free. I walked in the day before New Year's Eve and the friendly girl at the counter was able to get me an appointment for today. When I went in for my appointment, it was a different girl at the counter but she was equally friendly and helpful. Glennie explained all details to me, even though I've been tatted by her many times before--gotta love an artist who still takes the time to make you feel comfortable. I was in and out in 30min. The whole process is why I would keep going back to Glennie and Pearl Harbor.

A week before my apointment, India fractured her hand (sucks!) and my appaointment had to be moved after October. Since school would be in session my only coordinatng day turned out to be in December... I was pretty bumed out but at the same time I had more time to save up. The big day arrives and India is once again nice and cheery, making it easier to deal with the horrific pain to come. Ask anyone and they will agree that foot tattoos are generally brutal and since this was a cover up I knew staying still was going to be important. My hour long session was pretty painful but in the end super worth it. You can't see my old tattoo and India's design was incredible. I can't wait until my next ink adventure... and when that time comes India will be my guide :-)
