It's really great that there is still a drive-in that we can take our kids to and share this experience. We usually try to get here early so the kids can run around and play for a bit. How didn't I know about this place sooner?! What a perfect retro vibe. Make sure to get there 20 min before your movie starts. KT sells out fast. Try to bring a small car if you wanna be put up front. Not every spot has speakers which is why they have you tune your car radio in. Make sure to bring blankets to have even in the summer because mosquitos will get you. Some people burn citronella candles. Bring an extra handheld radio if you wanna sit out on a blanket because the speakers that are on the posts only go so far! This was my first drive in experience period, and I was not disappointed! The place was packed for Deadpool and Wolverine, but we were still able to get parked and stock up on snacks before the movie started rolling. For $20, you can stay for both movies shown on your screen. Seems to be that kids movies are a double feature on one screen, but other screens show back to back movies for an older audience. Based on what my friends said, that's not always the case -- at other drive ins, you might have to sit through a kiddie movie to catch your PG-13+ rated flick second, but not here. Don't be intimidated by the line at the snack bar. It moves pretty fast, and the prices are good... as long as you don't do what we did and buy one of everything they had! The funnel cake and corn dogs were probably my favorites here. The Isley's chip chopped BBQ ham sandwich is a Pittsburgh classic, and it was great to see on the menu. Large popcorn and soda come with a free refill, so that seems like a great option if you plan to stay for both movies. We went on a summer night, and everyone in my group had issues with their ice cream melting or breaking by the time we got it back to the car. Not Dependable's fault, but hopefully you can learn from our mistakes! Staff was friendly and efficient. Considering how packed it was (I think our screen was sold out?) we got in and parked quickly, and they were still walking around on radios directing people toward the front of the lot to fill any open spaces they had. I love the drive ins! We've gone a couple of times this summer (not as much as when the pandemic was going on) and it never disappoints. One of my favorite date night activities. We use a truck and let the bed of the truck face the movie- we can listen through the little back window- it's great! Inexpensive tickets, cheap concession stand that has everything you can imagine- the food is 1/4 of the price of what you would pay at a traditional movie theater! Large popcorn is free refills! We've tried soo many snacks- hot dogs, chicken, pizza logs, every type of candy, slushies, etc. It's all great and so affordable!! Great selection of new movies and sometimes older classics. You get to watch 2 movies for the chesp price but they do go on till really late- can be a little spooky when a lot of people drive home and leave after the 1st movie. Dependable made my first ever drive-in experience so enjoyable! We came out to see Barbie and expected a crowd, so we arrived when the gates opened at 7pm for a 9pm showing at screen 1. We got a perfect spot and made our way around the grounds and to the concession stand. The corn dogs were the perfect summer treat. Tip - there's a second concession stand down the hill next to screens 2 and 3 that's way less crowded. The facilities were very clean. One of the only DEPENDABLE places we could count on during quarantine! I have always loved the drive in, but I know it is still "new" for some people. The ticket price is only $9 per adult and you get to see 2 movies (I never can stay awake for the second one). You turn your car radio to the station they tell you at the ticket booth and listen to the movie through your car's speakers. We take chairs and sit outside next to the car to watch. People make the flatbeds of their trucks super comfy with pillows and blankets, and watch the movie from there! The concession stand is great! I expected candy and popcorn, but they have homemade funnel cakes, cheese steak hoagies, pizza, chicken fingers, etc. Super cheap prices and the workers are friendly. Love the fact that we still have a drive in movie here and that it's so close to home. With 4 screens, they have plenty of options for the whole family. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous while we were there. Movies started on time. Quick intermission in between. The concession stand line moved quickly. Food was typical concession stand food so nothing to brag about but worth the prices. It was very affordable. They had people throughout the lots helping you park. We got there a little before 8:00 and it was mostly full. We even spotted a couple bucks on the hill in the tree line during sunset. I did my best to grab a picture of them with my phone. As in Once you're parked and the movie starts, they say you can't move to another screen. Very affordable prices for tickets and concessions. Strict rules for where SUVs versus cars can park, but, I appreciate that because it gives everybody a good view. Tip: get there before sunset so you can grab your choice of the good spots. One of the last ( if not the last) Drive-In around. Nice summer night and arrived about and hour before the movie is to start to "claim our spot". .... given all the SUVs on the streets these day you have to as you are limited to where you can park. It's $8 per adult to enter which is not bad for a double feature ( tonight we are seeing Lion King & Toy Story 4). They have a sign that says no outside food - but we had already stopped in our way in to get pizza and nobody gave us a hard time ( we make sure to clean up after ourself and take the trash home with us). They do have restrooms and a concession stand if you want to pick up drinks and popcorn. The line tends to be long for food so plan accordingly :) I also have to say that most folks respect that not everyone likes smoking ...at least the folks around us tonight did. They walked to the sides to smoke vs blowing it back in us and the kids. They do have staff that wonders around to make all is okay and have seen them help people at the end of the night if their battery did not hold up .. okay yes had to use them once ;) All in all ... This was my first drive-in theater experience and I loved it. The movie started at the time they said it would. The audio and video quality was very good. you can always tune in to your FM (they provide the frequency to tune to) for in-car audio. During current covid times, the social distancing was okay. However, wearing a mask (when outside the car) was not super-strictly enforced. The tickets are cheap and I didn't find the popcorn/cold-drink super expensive either. Although it was written that outside food isn't allowed but a lot of people had gotten their snacks/drinks and they were fine. There was ample of space to park and most of the people sat outside the car and watched the movie. There was no traffic jam when people started getting out after the movie was over and everything was smooth. I would definitely recommend this drive-in theater and would come back again. read more

You can see two movies for only $9, plus the food is super reasonable. They have nachos, pretzels, pizza, chicken tenders, etc. My only tip is to get here early if you are seeing a newer movie. I'm so happy to see they get so packed- but it can be difficult to see the screen if You are far back. Great place to visit, especially in 2020! Went to see a double feature of Holiday movies. We arrived early, but the crowd was light on a Saturday night in December. We got a great spot then went to the concession stand. There's a great selection of food and snacks and all are reasonably priced. There's a $0.50 fee to use a card. I tried the funnel cake, churro, chicken tenders and fries. All were good, hot, and freshly made. The concession stand is open before the movies start and doesn't close until 15 minutes after the second movie starts. The staff is friendly and helpful. We accidentally had our daytime running lights on and someone stopped by to help us troubleshoot it. The movie experience was great! Clear sound through the radio channel, and bright picture on screen. The bathrooms were well lit and clean and stocked with soap/tissue/paper towels. There was a jag in front of us who kept fumbling around and turning their headlights on (they were facing backward), but after 3 incidences they figured it out. I'm looking forward to returning. Covid-19 safety precautions were being observed at all time, so they care about their customers and staff. Thank you for giving us a fun outing during a difficult year! read more

Love the drive -in and haven't been to the dependable in a while. Its affordable $8 admission price per adult. We arrived 45 minutes before the movie was scheduled to start and our screen parking lot was quickly filling up. It was a warm summer night so did expect that. We were instructed to park by the teal colored poles (SUV) and we did - no problem but clearly there were several SUV's parked in front!??? I don't know if you had to know someone or what but was clearly noticeable. The attendants seemed to be more concerned with walking around with twine to ensure any SUV hatches weren't blocking any views? Walking to the parking lot from a distance - even the hatches were up and not tied down were not blocking any views?? If you have an SUV or truck expect to be far back. So many came in late (30 minutes after the movie started) with their headlights on and trying to find a spot - that was a bit annoying. Also, it was a big smoke fest. It seemed like many were there to smoke cigarettes and watch the movie.. it made me miss being inside a movie theater. The stench in the air was nauseating. There were cigarette butts all over the ground too. It turned out to be a disappointing evening. We will not be returning.. would rather watch a movie at home or in a movie theater that is "smoke - free". read more

Went to see the Evil Dead playing with the Lost Boys at the Dependable drive in this past weekend and I have to say I was highly impressed with the venue. The picture and sound quality were pretty amazing, the snack bar had a nice variety of items ( although they were sold out of a few item which is the only reason it didn't get the full five star review ) and the restrooms were clean and well maintained. Fun fact: Dependable Drive-In is open year round! Is anyone else as surprised as I am? Actually, now that I think about it, it kind of makes sense, because movies at a drive-in can't be viewed until the sun goes down, which means you can watch your movies sooner during the fall and winter. I mean, I've always had fun when I've made the trip out here, but the catch is that I need to be ready to drive home around 1 or 2 AM during the summer. But I digress. This is definitely one of my favorite things in Pittsburgh, and I'm extremely glad we still have a drive-in. Going to one of these is a really fun experience. This drive-in has four screens and usually plays two, maybe three movies in one session on each screen. You just park your car and get to spend an evening with friends or family, eating food and talking in your car, and possibly sitting on blankets picnic-style while watching your movies. (This last option depends entirely on how busy the drive-in is and whether or not you can find a place to sit where you can see the screen as opposed to the back of a line of parked cars. Also, weather is always an important factor!) The pricing for tickets here is super reasonable; one ticket gets you two movies, so it's literally a two-for-one when compared to regular theaters. The catch is that usually, a bad movie ends up being paired with a good one. It's VERY rarely that I see a screen playing two movies I actually want to see. And no, you can't drive between screens; you pick a screen, park in the lot in front of it, and stay there until you go home. (Because of this, I will never forgive myself for missing the week where the newest Batman movie AND "The Avengers" were playing together. Most. Epic. Pairing. Ever.) And if you get hungry, just hit the snack bar - it's far more varied than an average theater concession stand and really isn't too bad in terms of quality. Not great, but not bad! A quick word of advice: if you have an older car, bring jumper cables or one of those portable battery chargers, just in case. The way a drive-in works is you turn on your car radio to a set station to hear the movie audio; in the past, I've had trouble getting my older cars to start after watching movies here, and getting stranded in one of those lots would not be the ideal way to end a night out. My final say? If anyone is brave enough to sit through some chilly weather, check this place out ASAP! But don't worry: if you'd rather stay indoors for a few months of hibernation, you can always go to see some summer blockbusters instead. read more

Going to the drive in on the Sunday over Memorial Day weekend probably wasn't the smartest thing to do in terms of timing. Thank god we had my hubby ahead of us in another car, who saved us a spot since we were running a little late. And being late almost cost us from getting in! The line of cars was backed up to the highway exit! It was crazy! Once we got to the front there was a teenage kid yelling "everything's sold out," voice cracking and all. We just took a gamble to see if we could park and walk to our other car. Thankfully, we were able to get into another movie and walk over to ours, which was sold out. It won't surprise you that it was The Hangover and Bridesmaids. Hubby was parked right by the food stand, score! The snacks are totally cheap and it didn't hurt that the sweet smell of fried dough lingered in the air the entire night. It did hurt to not buy one, but the line was SO long! I do wish the bathrooms were bigger. The women's line, of course, was the longest line. It's also SUPER loud when a plane flies overhead. It doesn't help that the airport is pretty much right next door. I'm not sure what came first, the drive-in or the airport, but one of them should have stayed away from the other! I love drive ins for the summer and this is my favorite one. They have four screens and you get to see 2 movies and eat outside. There are clean bathrooms and multiple concession stands. The food is hit or miss. If your not picky try what interests you. The popcorn, fries, onion rings, chicken fingers, and corn dog were good to me. You're NOT allowed to bring in food but I had this FRIEND who snuck in his OWN SNACKS!!!!!!! :O Make sure you plan your evening as you see 2 movies that go on almost till 1 am. Most people sit outside their car or lay on a blanket with pillows. Bring chairs, tables, small blanket or hoodie, radio to hear audio outside, paper plates, napkins.... by all means DON'T bring your own snacks like other law breakers I know! This is one of the only drive ins left in the area. I love going here on warm nights. I always feel like I'm transported back in time when I come here. They start every show with the national anthem which is followed by "old fashioned" like commercials which adds to the fun. This is one of the only drive ins left in our area. I haven't been to the drive in in ages so I decided to leave a bit early to get there in case there was a line, we were the 3rd vehicle in line. They started letting us in right away even though it was only 6:30 (they open at 7). There are 4 different screens. They tell you which screen to go to and what channel to tune in to. My problem with that is that my Jeep doesn't stay on unless the engine is running, or at least I don't know how to get it to stay on. Some people had speakers that they brought with them and hooked up to their radio somehow so that helped us hear the movie well even when my Jeep turned off. Since we were there early we got a great spot right in front of the concession and bathrooms. After reading other reviews we decided to get something to eat right away thinking the lines for concession would be outrageous. They were not bad at all though in between movies. Most of the employees I saw were very young and uninterested in being there, especially at the concession stand. They guys directing vehicles where to park were helpful. The last drive-in I remember was the Greater Pittsburgh Drive-In in North Versailles that was torn down in 1997 to make room for a Wal-Mart. This drive-in is near the old Pittsburgh International Airport in Moon Township. They offer four screens and usually show two movies together though sometimes the two movies picked don't go well with each other at all. I usually never make it to the end of the second movie and fall asleep before it's over though. Sometimes you even get three movies. The prices are dare I say cheap. Man, I haven't been to a drive-in since I was 11. We saw "The Goonies" back in 1985. It may have been this drive-in. I really can't remember. My streak of Americana deprivation has been broken. We saw "Machete" and "The Expendables" this evening, two films I wouldn't have been allowed to watch way back then for sex and excessive gore. And I was awake for both features, which is another drive-in first for me. Ummmm...I'm trying not to be the joykiller... Honestly, my only real, major gripe was the burger I had. It was pre-fabricated and sat in a wrapper under a hot lamp. Not. Tasty. At all. And they had no mayo! What? The popcorn was decent, but who can screw that up? It rained. Yeah. Not that it was the fault of the drive-in of course, but it was a bit of a damper nonetheless. I couldn't complain about the picture or sound, though. Remember to set your radio to 88.7 FM. Would I go back to a drive-in after tonight? Eh, I'm not 100% sure. I was left thinking it's a slightly overrated experience. My nostalgia has waned somewhat for this type of thing, but it is also kinda fun. At Dependable, You feel like you're out in the woods. If I go again, I will bring chairs and sit outside the car. Dependable Drive-In needs a little more common sense when pairing up movies in their double features. We're often left wishing we could jump screens. Admission prices are fair. Concessions are what you'd expect a the movies with a few extras (funnel cakes are a nice addition). We had an issue with a slightly out of focus picture at our last showing. Occasionally you'll get the thoughtless viewer who leaves their headlights on - but the power of the mob tends to prevail as people start getting out of their cars to deal with it. Once the movies start, you're bound to enjoy yourself. The drive in is a nice break from the typical movie theater experience. Traffic backs up a little getting in and out, but is not unbearable. Tip: Buy a car with a bench seat before taking your wife out here for maximum cuddle time. read more

I freaking love the drive in! I love this drive in so much I'm actually the mayor of the drive in on Four Square--so trust my "authority" when I tell you that you're going to love this place too. Even in the winter! It's $6.50. For two movies. Sometimes three movies. You just can't beat that. Most people don't know that the drive in is open year round. The drive in is great in the summer, but the movies start later so you have to be able to stay awake until 2am to watch the end of the second movie. It's also crowded in the summer so you have to get there early. There's still always room for everyone and no such thing as a bad seat at the drive in. I prefer the drive in during the fall/winter months. Watching a scary movie at night in the fall in a somewhat empty parking lot alone in the car w your friend is ... kinda scary. In fact, during the last Paranormal Activity movie I got so scared I fastened my seatbelt during hte movie. Don't laugh, it was a reflex!!! In the winter the drive in is pretty much deserted, we saw Wreck It Ralph there with just one other car in the lot. Because the movies play through your car radio, you're not going to be freezing your butts off. Just bring blankets. It's kind of romantic. The concession stand has fun food items like funnel cakes, pizzas, and gyros. And they're all at prices you could actually afford. They're cheap enough you could actually eat an unhealthy dinner there. Sometimes I wonder how a family w three kids could afford to go to the movies more than once or twice a month and the answer, in my opinion, is that either we're talking about a rich family, or the drive in. I think the drive in is especially awesome for those of us who can't make it through a movie without talking (I'm talking to you, my friend Gretchen!). I have basically grown up seeing movies here and the experience has not changed in the past 20 or so years. Love that they still have the speakers that can clip on your window and the concession stand still has fair prices. We still check out a movie here everytime we visit home. Want to watch a movie in public, but be able to gab with impunity when things get boring? If so, this is your place! I've only ever been to one other drive-in (in Fort Collins, CO) back in 2007, since I grew up in a place that didn't have a drive-in nearby, so I'd almost forgotten what it was like until coming here last night. I saw The Giver and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (a weird pairing, I know) with a friend. Although I wasn't much into TMNT despite being a fan of the Sat. morning cartoon as a kid, I didn't mind hanging around for it due to being able to talk, and it was fun to be able to make fun of the massive amount of tropes in the movie without having to worry about disturbing others. As others have mentioned, admission is pretty reasonable compared to many of the traditional movie theaters in the area, and concessions are quite inexpensive. I had the funnel cake (first time I'd had some in at least 5 years), and it was great! For $2.25, you can't beat it! Alternatively, if you plan ahead, you can bring your own food without having to sneak it in, as in traditional theaters. What a great spot for catching a Fri. night movie, esp. while the weather's still nice! I highly recommend it as a date spot, or just for having a fun time with some friends. read more

We chose the movies that were playing on screen 2. It was SO hard to hear. Not only was the highway loud through the trees, but planes were constantly taking off at the airport right beside us. It looked like screens 1 and 4 would have been much quieter, but I refuse to go back for screens 2 and 3. They also have certain color parking spots for certain sizes of vehicles, which is understandable, BUT while we were stuck in the last row with our truck, other trucks showed up after us and parked front and center. The drive in staff walked around before the movie, but didn't say anything to them. We also didn't realize that there were only a few spots in the very last row with speakers, so we are going to bring a portable radio next time we come. The other thing I thought was weird, was that you pay per person instead of per vehicle. I'd never heard of a drive in doing this. The concession stand had a good variety of food. I also appreciated that they waited about 20 minutes after the movie was supposed to start to actually start it, because it wasn't dark enough to see it yet. read more

Dependable Drive-In - View of 1 of the parking spots for trucks (even though you can see other trucks parked in the spots for cars) - Drive-In Theater Near Me - Coraopolis, Pennsylvania

This was my first drive-in and I had an amazing time! Tickets were so much cheaper than going to the theater ($7 for 2 movies). I should note that all the movies are recent too, not like those cheap maxi saver theaters. You get to sit in the comfort of your car and can crank up the volume as loud as you like. If it's nice outside, bring chairs and enjoy the breeze. The food stand is extremely cheap too, about $2 for popcorn, and $1 hotdog. I will definitely be back! I recently went on a Monday to cash in on a Groupon given to me as a gift. My brother was happy to join me for a triple feature, mostly because it was free. I'd been to the Dependable before but I must have forgotten how great it was. With the high cost of movie theater tickets and the low cost of Netflix, I rarely see movies outside of my apartment. This adventure may have changed my mind. Even without the Groupon, I was amazed at how cheap the tickets are. And that's for 2 movies! Or, in our case, 3. It's an unbelievable deal. On top of that, the snack bar is amazing. Funnel cakes? Deep fried hamburgers? Oh, and your typical popcorn and candy as well. All at very reasonable prices. It's a great place to spend a night, but probably more during the spring or fall when it is cooler at night. It's a popular place. Who doesn't love being outside, watching movies and being able to talk without interrupting your neighbors? I was surprised at the crowds, even for a Monday. I'm sure to return when I see another double (or triple) feature I like. read more

This is another place I can't believe I haven't reviewed yet! But this place is awesome! It had been a couple of years since I'd been here, so the girl posse and I decided to take in a movie under the stars. So we headed out in my friend Marla's husband truck to the drive-in. We wanted to see a good no-brainer flick so Sherry, Maryann, Marla, and I all got our "chick testosterone" up and saw "G.I. Joe"! Even as far as dumb action flicks go, this one was still pretty bad but we loved it! And since weeknights are less busy, the parking rules are relaxed. We backed the pick-up truck up and set-up our lawn chairs in the flatbed, theatre-style. Marla and Sherry sat in back with their chairs on a make-shift and semi-safe platform. They have a pretty good snack bar here too. It has your typical drive-in fare: popcorn, candy, funnel cakes, pizza, cheeseburgers, foot long hotdogs, chili dogs, chicken fries, french fries, and nachos. In short, all the fattening carbalicious stuff that's anathema to any type-1 diabetic like me. With the Greater Pittsburgh Drive-in gone, this is one of last drive-ins around.
