I've been a patient of this practice for years. Reception has always been sweet (or at least polite). Back office is quick to send my prescriptions every month. My provider is very kind. Also incredibly receptive to feedback on medications. Flexible with my schedule. Do your part, and they will do theirs. Can't believe I need to say this: If nobody answers the phone, just leave a voicemail. Send a follow up email. Be patient. Be courteous. They will get back to you sooner than later. read more

These people, well especially Dr. Courtney Swanson will drive you nuts. I got a cold call from a Dr. Courtney Swanson asking if I was still looking for a therapist. I told her yes, she interviewed me over the phone. Said she was looking forward to meeting me and then the next morning, day before our meeting she texted she was cancelling. When I asked her why she refused to say but enjoyed running me ragged over it. This is not how a healthy psychoanalyst works and if you look at the reviews the place is loaded with one star bad reviews. Don't let Denver Wellness Associates, and especially Dr. Courtney Swanson, make you worse. Colorado is considered one of the worst states in the country for mental health. I would not recommend this clinic, particularly Lauren Beltran. I've only been a patient for 3 months, and in that time the relationship went from reasonable to frustrating fast. Early on, they accommodated a 1-2 day early refill of my medication, which is standard and allowed by pharmacy and law up to 3 days early. More recently, that same kind of request was met with accusations of medication mismanagement. They tallied up the last 3 months of 1-2 day early fills (which they approved) and told me I should have leftovers, then refused to fill even on time when I was going out of town. It felt like being treated like a child, as if they were standing in my medicine cabinet counting pills. I'm genuinely concerned about their prescribing practices. I work remote and travel for 2-week stretches regularly, so I specifically wanted a clinic that could offer some flexibility around my schedule. Instead, I found the patient support to be subpar, policies applied inconsistently, and felt like policies were being invented on the spot rather than following any clear standard, with accusatory framing toward patients who ask reasonable questions. I'm concerned about how they treat patients overall. I put significant time and money into their intake process, and it's disappointing that it went downhill so quickly. I'd steer clear of this clinic. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with Amy Cohen for an ADHD evaluation. My initial interview lasted over an hour--far longer than the approximately 20-minute intake I had expected--but it felt disorganized and all over the place rather than like a focused ADHD assessment. The follow-up was much worse. There seemed to be an outsized emphasis on the computerized diagnostic test, while the detailed 20-page DIVA assessment I had completed documenting symptoms and impairment from childhood through adulthood was barely addressed. Most concerning, during the appointment Amy actually asked me whether I had sent the DIVA assessment. When I told her I had, she said something along the lines of, "Oh, I must have forgotten to add it to the file." She gave me no clear indication that she had actually reviewed it before reaching her conclusions. She also appeared unprepared for the appointment in other ways, including leaving the room after we started to retrieve my computerized testing results. My symptoms were largely attributed to my supposed "lifelong depression and anxiety." My depression did not begin until my late teens, and I do not have a history of anxiety. That explanation also failed to address the extensive symptoms I had documented going back to childhood. My dissatisfaction is not about receiving or not receiving a particular diagnosis. I wanted a thorough evaluation that considered all of the information I provided and a thoughtful explanation of the findings. Instead, I left feeling that one computerized test was given disproportionate weight while a substantial amount of relevant history was largely disregarded. I would not recommend Amy Cohen or Denver Wellness Associates for an adult ADHD evaluation based on my experience. read more

Unfortunately I recommend you not go to Denver Wellness for mental health counseling. The "treatment" offered here is not helpful and will hurt you. If you are someone who needs to rant or just wants someone understanding to acknowledge how rough things are, you'll be fine with the twenty-somethings who will listen and nod along. If you need some actual treatment or real help though, this isn't the place you'll get it. I had very poor experiences with two of their therapists who had no idea what they were doing. I am more trauma and ADHD informed than either of them were. And what really sucked was after the second counsellor left me in a state of triggered anxiety and confusion, I got an inappropriately cheerful call letting me know they were firing me as a client without communicating anything about why I was being let go. To be clear, I did nothing wrong as a patient. I didn't break any rules, violate any policies, say anything psychotic or anything like that. I simply couldn't get any real help. Things like asking my therapist "What is acceptance and how do I get there in these troubled days?" That kind of thing is not something a therapist should be struggling to help you with. Defining basic terms in psychology and working with someone to help them accomplish some relief is not rocket science and it's not hard to do. So I can only conclude that these relatively new therapists just don't know what they're doing. I'm not even mad at them personally. I'm mainly just confused why they are so bad at their jobs. Edited on 15 Dec as my psychiatrist also reached out to fire me today for no reason whatsoever. I was basically just banned from the premises because of their incompetence. It's a hard thing to say that but it is what it is. I took this all very hard for a couple of days because how could I not take this personally? But after going over all this with my friends and professional colleagues, we concluded the problem is Denver Wellness Associates. I hope you don't have the same experience I did. This place is so bad they should use it to teach people how NOT to operate. From the front desk to the uhm.... "doctors", just a hot mess. Made it through two different appointments before finding out that "oops, you aren't actually in network". The billing was a nightmare to sort out after that. The woman that answered the phone when we called to ask questions was incredibly rude. Not once, but TWICE. No reason for it. The nurse practitioner that was in the actual session was an absolute buffoon. We had moved from one city to another, trying to establish with a new provider. Gave the records as requested, known issue with a clear diagnosis. This person just wanted to argue everything about it, explain why "it's just anxiety" just way off base. The only thing these people seem to be on top of is sending the bill. The demand for top dollar while the staff is barely rank amateur is an insult. Not sure how this place is still in business. read more

I came here because I moved from a different state and needed a 3-month supply of my medications for an upcoming study abroad trip. Although this was quite literally the soonest I could get an appointment, I was denied the 3-month medication coverage. This is frustrating but I understand this is a common policy among psychiatrists to not prescribe that much to a new patient (even though I explained my unique situation and offered to provide the reference from my previous doctor that I had established care with out of state but was still denied). What I am upset about is that the dr. I saw condescendingly told me that he is "not a pill dispenser", insinuating I am some lying junky looking for some pills. In fact, I have been on this medication ongoing for 5 years and will now have to ration what I have left to get through my trip, hopefully not experiencing any of the scary brain side effects that happen when you go off of it without medical supervision. Am I blaming this dr. for this? No, I understand that this is often policy even though I am disappointed he would not have empathy my unique situation. The reason for my 1-star review is that I have never felt so talked down to and misunderstood by a psychiatrist before coming here. I would never come back here, and am very disappointed with the care I received. I truly hope no other patient experiences being accused of being a pill seeker for simply trying to advocate for their health needs. read more

*WARNING DO NOT GO TO THIS PRACTICE* My personal provider is absolutely amazing but everyone else has no regard for mental health or humanity in general. I was sent a dismissal letter totally unprovoked stating me and my provider had "misaligned treatment goals and damaged report" days after questioning the billing practices that are unethical and from my knowledge illegal. This was also DAYS after i had a great check in with my provider and we both agreed to move forward with all medication and current treatment. This all happened to be right after they charged my card $200 without my permission or authorization. I also have an email the will dismiss you if you have a running balance over $300 which i do not have. I am now left scrambling to find proper mental health care and medication when I suffer from severe trauma, depression, anxiety and PTSD. I have worked in the dental field for over 12 years and seen countless providers for many medical issues and i have never seen such poor and irresponsible patient care. I feel horrible for anyone who has to navigate the mental health system and practices like this are extremely dangerous. I was sent a dismissal letter which is very clearly now some sort of retaliation for me questioning unauthorized running of my debit card. Been calling for weeks multiple times a day and have not gotten a callback or anyone to answer the phone. I finally left a pretty rude voicemail and what do you know? I get an immediate call back! The girl on the phone did nothing but make excuses and said they had no records of me calling and it was the first they've heard from me. This place is trash and barely qualifies as a "doctors" office, seriously do NOT waste your time here, this is my desperate plea to anyone who cares. I had a number of visits here, for ketamine, tms, and general psychiatric care. TMS was worthless. The lady often didn't even line it up correctly and I HAD TO TELL HER WHERE IT GOES. I don't work in tms, I don't know anything about tms, why the actual heck am I doing their job? After doing it my anger increased ten fold, but they said okay how about ketamine then? So I capitulate and start doing ketamine, not spryvata. The first two visits are interesting but awful, as I forgot to speak and think english during both experiences. After that it only got worse and worse. The nurses are clowns. One stabbed me in the bone on my right shoulder, I don't even know how you manage that. Bruised for months. The actual ketamine was horrible, a dark, dark experience that only gets worse. It's for addicts and druggies, or people with an already happy life who had one sad day and decided they needed a little boost to help them out. It's garbage. And their front desk lady is such an unbelievably combative moron it's actually ridiculous. I think the woman named Giselle was the only one with a semblance of professional care and bedside manners. Avoid, avoid, avoid. I had a virtual appointment to establish care in Denver, as I had recently moved and needed to refill medication I have been on for years. The appointment was fine, and I mentioned that I didn't need the refill for at least a couple of months, and the doctor said no problem, just call for the refill. Three months later I call and they want me to do another $170 appointment to get medication I had already been approved for--apparently, patients are supposed to proactively reach out for an appointment 4 times a year? I've never had to have that many appointments to continue medication. We go back and forth, both sides frustrated, before they finally fill my medication. Then come to find out they halved my dosage (I message them about that, they just said to call for another refill) and only gave me 10 pills. I've been going to a psychiatrist for 15 years and have never had such an unprofessional, money-hungry experience. I will be finding a new doctor. read more

just read the solid yellow line yelp one star reviews....mine's next. there are no 'doctors' at this mess of a place, called a clinic...no credentials on any walls....just 'pa-c associates'....maybe recruted off the street knowing how to use an ipad & tell time? no credentials on any walls....however....there's a big clock very visable in the 'therapy rooms', and many wrist watch glances....maybe 'sessions' are 15-20 minutes....lord help you if late.....there's only time to write yet another script that's.....'let's try this' . i was prescribed a med to take at night for panic attacks/anxiety, then when that was ineffective & gave me nighmares, the guy switched....'take in the morning'. 30 minutes after taking, i couldn't walk in the house without hugging the wall or hanging on to furniture....i thought i was going to pass out w/ heart palpatations/lightheadness/dizzyness beyond belief. no way would i attempt to go up/down my stairs. if i was to drive, i would have wrecked my car/killed someone....that's how bad it was. i just drank a lot of water and had to sit till it wore off. trying to call this place to tell 'someone' what was happening to me and what to do?....forget it...the long 'menu' by an inaudible female only goes to voice mail to reception. forget waiting for a call back....into a black hole.....fitting name for this place. why did it take me 11 months to leave this 'pill trap'? guess was too lazy to find someone else to refill my 2 monthly scripts.....then after a while...come in for an 'evaluation'.....of what? more pills to go in my 'bag of poison' filled with near full bottles of every med imaginable that my insurance covered.....i diagnosed myself as 'treatment resistant' since no one else did. last visit i asked for a med that the 'guy' says is bad/addictive' & would not prescribe. he could have killed me with his guessing game of throwing meds at me. he then dismissed me from this clinic....thank you jesus....i was fired!!!...i asked for a common med he hadn't tried prescribing before. i needed this to happen...i'll spread the word here and verbally to others who can't sleep, have anxiety....not the worst thing in the world....i can talk myself off the ledge....do i need some goofball kid 'trying' to 'help' me? nope. my first visit, after a $5k genesight test (swabbing my cheek for dna), i came to this place to get med results from this test specific for me. i brought the test results with me, and was never copied nor was my internist (who administered the test) consulted to confer what med was right for me from results of this test. it was suggested i try tms (transcranial magnetic...something i can't recall what the s is).....it's a fitted cap measured for your head. the area of the brain is 'marked' to stimulate 'a sense of well-being'. well....i agreed & had to sign many documents of consent. the first treatment was to 'find' the right place of the brain to apply the magnetic sensors. while in the chair w/ the cap on and the 'therapist' trying to find the 'spot'....if your thumb twitches....that's it. she turned up the machine, and i thought my brain was going to explode. i stopped the procedure. blinding headaches continued for 4 days. think anyone called me back after complaining while i was there? nope. i consider myself lucky. i'm leaving with the same 2 scripts i came in with......curious to see what insurance has paid this circus. last time i looked in a mirror, i don't resemble a guinea pig. am reading my medical records as i write this review.....they are exagerating the time spent to the second....plus time spent 'reviewing' before actually seeing me in person. i've never seen a bill....have wonderful insurance. i thought lawyers padded thier billiing.....this place could teach them more tricks. yay.....i am free from this dangerous place, and these amateurs. they do have 'clean/dirty' pens, though. read more

I've been a patient of Denver Wellness Associates for three years. I was in a desperate place when Dr. Theobald and I met. A major psychiatric illness was emerging and was very rapidly destroying my life. She was able to quickly identify and diagnose the problem (that ~10 previous psychologists and psychiatrists had previously missed). Jeanne quickly found the right combination of medications based on my condition and genetic makeup and had me back on my feet quickly. She then worked with me to tune my medications so that they worked correctly (and without side-effects). We engaged in psychotherapy and ultimately psychoanalysis that has transformed my life in ways too numerous to recount here. Suffice to say that I have gone from a life that felt not worth living to one that is filled with happiness, joie de vivre, energy, confidence and seemingly (to me) endless potential. Most recently her use of TMS technology has improved seemingly every aspect of my brain's functioning. During that process I got to know many members of her excellent team and each did a spectacular job in their own right. I was extremely fortunate to find Jeanne and could not possibly recommend her or her practice more highly. read more

Unbelievably unprofessional admin staff and business procesdures. I've been a happy patient for almost a year until now. I have been trying to call in and get an appointment for weeks with multiple messages left with the admin staff. I emailed my doctor 3 different times and was ignored as well, for weeks. Finally someone texts me, the first contact in weeks and they tell me to call for an appt. Great, they won't respond so how do I get an appt? They finally get me scheduled throu text and I call yet again because my insurance changes. They do call me back, I'm on a public train and can't say my info out loud and ask them to call me back in 30. THEY SAID NO. This is unbelievable I never received an apology once from their admin staff after weeks of negligence. And then to be 'too busy' to call back in 30 mins is a joke. You have multiple admins you can work with. read more

I have been a client now for 7 years. I used to rely on DWA and Jeanne Theobald in particular. She was incredible and staff USED to be wonderful. Three years ago I'd give them a 5 star review. But since she's left I've been transferred to another provider and also since I've had to take on Medicaid they've treated me horribly. In fact, since I've had to take Medicaid I've seen a significant shift (decline) in care and I'm not sure it's a coincidence. There is a very bitter, nasty admin/receptionist now that has been nothing but derogatory and rude for the last few times I've had to call (she made me cry the first time I had to deal with her and she threatened me and patronized me) She seems fairly new, at least in the last year or two. She makes me too scared to call and reschedule or even ask for anything. She is horrible and has no place in working with mentally ill patients. They are derogatory and will belittle anyone with an actual mental illness. They do not care. I will never call or step foot in this place again. I have doctors in my family that used to recommend this place too and I will see to them never recommending it again. DWA is not what it once was. (I joined yelp to SPECIFICALLY speak against and warn against this horrible practice- if you are actually in need of help, do not come here. This is a dire warning. As a bipolar patient, I felt very uncomfortable in my interactions with the provider. She was very judgmental towards bipolar symptoms and did not provide me a welcoming environment. If your struggling with mania, this may not be the best place for you, as my provider made me feel crazy for not being able to sleep on the medications I was currently on. Her eyes made an extremely judgmental vibe after going through the medications I was currently taking for sleep. She also passively treated me as if I'm a drug addict, given I was taking benzos as needed. To make things worse, she didn't even offer the slightest bit of condolences after expressing grief over tragic multiple deaths. "I'm sorry for your loss" isn't too much to ask for when your in tears over someone's passing. After having better luck and interactions elsewhere, it showed me that the poor treatment I received here was unacceptable. read more

I'm going to preface that I've had some super horrendous, and traumatic experiences with Psychiatrists, and psychologists in the past. So, I was very anxious to even give this kind of place another try. But as soon as I step foot in the waiting room, and was warmly greeted by the receptionist, I could already tell that this was going to be a different experience. After the brief wait in the comfortable waiting room, I met my provider, Laurel Tronsen, and she took her time to get to know me, my past and my situation. We discussed my goals, and then both came up with a plan to make them a reality! I left the office feeling confident, and at peace knowing they listened to me. We are a few months in and to this day, I have never felt rushed, or that I was just someone's paycheck at any of my appointments! And on top of everything, Laurel, and staff have always gone out of their way to answer any questions I have had in-between appointments, and done so in a timely manner. You may have to either leave a voice message or text the office, but they will get back to you. I have no issues recommending Denver Wellness to all my friends and family. read more

I attempted to refer a client here for a medication evaluation and the secretary was very rude to both she and myself because my client was funded by Medicaid and did not have a credit card to put on file. Wouldn't even let us make an appointment. If wanting to use Medicaid, don't even try! Terrible customer service! read more
