I was visiting for the week and got the opportunity to check this out. This is a very cool building with an interesting history. I had the opportunity to check out several of the different dances. There was a short lesson and then a dance. Doesn't matter if you are a seasoned dancer or a total novice. I was there for western swing, Lindy and Ballroom. The music for ballroom dancing was not what I would have expected, but it was fun. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. Even offering suggestions about local restaurants. You definitely don't need to have a partner to go here. There are plenty of people to dance with. If you are in the denver area and looking for something different and fun to do, check out their website to see what's going on. read more

Denver Turnverein - The dance floor is getting warmed up - Performing Arts Near Me - Denver, Colorado

If you're looking for a new place to build some community and try new things, this is a great one! They have Sunday night West coast swing classes that are followed by a dance mixer which is always very fun. Right behind the Fillmore, this is a super convenient location if you live anywhere near cap hill . read more

I don't usually write scathing reviews, but this really pissed me off. I've heard a lot of good things about the Turn, so my friend and I planned to visit the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. We were told there were no classes being offered, even though this wasn't advertised anywhere on their website or social media. We even double checked everywhere we could find after being turned away. The website SPECIFICALLY said there would be classes. Another guy that showed up was under the same impression as we were. To make matters worse, the people working at the check-in table were extremely pretentious and one was particularly rude, emphasizing that this secret special event was only for experienced dancers. How disappointing and discouraging to even think about trying to come back again. read more

This place is a great dancehall! I came here on a Friday for the swing dancing lesson.....which was free! Following the lesson they do an open dance. It was $8 for the open dance. There was a handful of people there and plenty of people to dance with. They also had a bar for those of you that need liquid courage. Bring a change of shoes in winter to keep the dance floor looking good. read more

One of the best dance floors in Denver and a great place to meet up for some great social dancing. Heck, why not take a lesson and brush up on your skills beforehand. Everyone I've met there is welcoming and friendly and the lessons are split up between beginner, intermediate and advanced with a special bridge class from intermediate to advanced to give you a smooth transition and the confidence to take your dancing to the next level. The Turnverein offers it all, a beautiful space to dance your Blues away or Lindy Hop into the night. Whatever your dancing pleasure, 'The Turn' offers a wide variety of lessons and dancing styles from Argentine Tango to West Coast Swing to Country Two-step. No partner, no problem.. with over 1,100 members you can always find someone to dance with. And for $55/year ($45/year military, senior or student) you can become a member and receive reduced prices on all lessons, social dancing and other special functions. The vintage architecture of the building, it's awesome dance floors and it's Capital Hill location make it the perfect venue for private events also. With two dance floors and ample amenities it can accommodate between 150-400 people. Don't be shy, stop on by and get your groove on at the Denver Turnverein. read more

A great dance community for beginners and pros. A place where dance is the focus and that leads to wonderful connections. Each night focuses on a different style and usually offers a free beginner class before an open dance. Check the calendar to see what suits you best. read more

The Turnverein Dance and Cultural Center is a Historic building in Uptown Denver. As a dance venue, the Turn has a fantastic wood floor ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows & a bar. The Turn is host to 6 dance nights each week, with many dance events on weekends. Sunday - West Coast Swing Monday - Ballroom Tuesday - Tango Wednesday - Salsa Thursday - new! Blues night! Friday - Lindy Hop Swing For those who have not visited the Turn for a while, the building has been upgraded with air conditioning and the men's bathroom was recently renovated. Art displays featuring the work of local artists decorate the walls. Credit cards are now accepted at the bar. The Turn also participates in community events, such as the National Night Out and the Halloween event with the Police Station across the street. Things to know: Parking is very limited. Arrive early to park in the lot surrounding the Turn. The Fillmore graciously allows people to park in their adjacent lot, if there are no events at the concert venue. If there is an event at the Fillmore, make sure to plan for extra driving time, since Colfax backs up quickly and there are no left-turn arrows. The Turnverein is a 501c7, which means it is a member club. Joining any of the dance clubs means becoming a member of the Turnverein, which give lower prices for lessons & dances. read more

A variety of events take place at the Turnverein, many of them dance-related. I've been to several swing dance workshops here and the Friday night swing night. Here are the websites of some of the organizers of events there: http://www.coloradoswingdanceclub.com/ www.cmdance.org It's a very nice large space with a great wood dance floor. There is a second dance floor downstairs. The women's restrooms were recently remodeled. The Friday swing nights are a very friendly, laid back atmosphere. They teach lindy hop lessons beforehand. Of all the swing venues in Colorado, this is one of the friendliest, with the most space to dance. read more

The Denver Turnverein keeps making amazing improvements to its facilities over the years. Recent improvements include redoing the men's restroom, improving sound upstairs and most recently- wall to wall hardwood floors downstairs. The downstairs area used to be dark and unwelcoming. Now, it's very bright with so much dance space. Thanks for putting your hard earned dollars into this great building and dance space. For the curious, the Denver Turnverein offers many dancing options including lindy hop, west coast swing, argentine tango, ballroom, salsa and now California Country Dancing on Thursdays (ladies free on Thursday nights this April). read more

There are many good dance floors in Denver. This one is arguably the best one that anyone can go to regularly. When I say there are many good dance floors, in this context I'm literally referring to the actual floor. This building has not one but two (upstairs and down) of the most awesome wood floors in town. Upstairs is sprung, downstairs I'm unsure of the construction but it's fine for blues or any kind of classroom / lab / social dancing. There are other dance floors in Denver that are good. Some are renowned for teachers (Mercury Cafe), some as event venues. Most are not as good as the Turnverein (some have obnoxious humps, some are simply not available unless you book a wedding / bar mitzvah, others are obscure), which is why most good dance events use this venue as a flagship. I'm a Lindy Hopper, and I recommend this floor for Friday nights. This review is not for food (never ate here) or liquor (the bar is really limited as swing dancers generally don't drink much... while dancing). If you want to dance, I can give great tips especially for Lindy. At the very least, this is your Friday night hall. read more

This is a great place to dance! The 1900's building and modern amenities give it a charm and grace. The dance floor is amazing; big, open, finished to a dancers texture for speed. The dancers are friendly and of all levels; experienced to newbie. They have a different style almost every night; ballroom Monday, Argentine Tango Tuesday, Salsa Wed, CW2 Thur, Lindy Fri, Sat has events check calendar, WCS Sun. All with great energy and attendance. It does have an open bar and prices are very inexpensive for dance and drink. They do have Membership's available for regulars that will save u even more $. read more

My husband and I LOVE the Denver Turnverein! We've been going there since we were Sophomores in high school back in 2006! We even thought about having our wedding reception there. The music is great and there is plenty of space to dance. The bar has great German beers and other mixed drinks. They also always have complimentary water and pretzels/cookies. There special events are the best! We went for Valentines Day in 2014 and they had a free Photo Booth! We had so much fun! This place is amazing, great people and it only cost $7 on Friday nights for nonmembers! You won't get a better deal anywhere else in Denver, that's for sure. read more

This is actually a non-profit social dance club! No price gouging! Costs less than a movie. How sweet is that! Sure beats just watching TV at home or hanging out in a sports TV bar. It's the perfect, low cost social setting where you can have an actual conversation and get the most enjoyable exercise ever. Whatever your style music, it's here. The Argentine Tango on Tuesdays is yummy. I highly recommend it. read more

I take their tango lessons on Tuesday (when I'm up for driving to Denver), this is such a nice space. It always feels relaxed and elegant, it's just a room you want to be in. Off-street parking, close to downtown, big old windows and places to sit around if you aren't dancing. Nice! read more

I've search your sight trying to reach someone concerning my membership. I renewed my membership more than a month ago and I will check my credit card for the exact date, a forty dollar membership fee was paid. Each time I come to the Turnverein, my name does not appear on your rooster that I am a paid member. My name is Herman Dawson and my email address is Hdawson@juno.com. I've told the people at the entrance desk collecting payment prior to each dance to no avail. I receive emails from you every week, but, my name does not appear on the membership list. Vincent has checked the list; my name does not appear. I will provide proof of payment just ask. Please give this matter your consideration, so I don't have to go through this every time I come to the Turnverein. There seems no other way to contact your other than put my concern in your review. read more

Love this venue. I go to various West Coast Swing events here, and its always been great. The dance floor is huge and well maintained, with plenty of sitting room for between dances. I love that there is a bar inside the dance room. Extra convenient! Highly recommend this venue for your dance needs. read more

The Turnverein is wonderful place to learn dance as classes are offered throughout the week. The atmosphere, friendly, and comfortable for learning along with staff being very supportive. An online calendar is available for viewing. Membership adds discounts to the all ready low prices of generally 10.00 per drop in class. It's has a beautiful well kept ballroom on the main floor with ample space for whips, promenades, and line dancing grapevines. There is a smaller dance space on the lower level. They maintain a comfortable temperature and it is well ventilated. Lighting is conducive to dancing and not to harsh and bright. They do serve alcohol during the dance socials after lessons for a cost. I have been here for Salsa, and West Coast Swing. Each time I went I have had excellent instructors that are knowledgeable on dance and also on how to communicate to participants. Sometimes at other places I have encountered dancers holding class but not competently teaching and appearing to not understand different learning styles. You will get clear instructions with good demonstration and an openness for feedback. This place also offers a great way to socially connect with the dance community as up coming events are posted and shared with its members. It is clean and check in friendly, organized and informative. There is also ample seating and plenty of free parking in their lot or free street parking. As it gets later in the evening the lot will fill fast and one will need to defer to street parking. There is no valet parking so plan for parking in order to be on time for classes. I definitely recommend the Turnverein for your social dancing needs. read more

Why rewrite exactly what Jami G. already told you? She is 100% correct. Go ready her review.

Good spot for what it is but the grounds around the facility look like a dump. There are dead trees, paved over grass, trash and broken glass along the outside. Forget taking pictures infront unless you just capture the building. Its a shame that such a beautiful historic building in downtown is not preserved with proper streetscaping or regular maintenance and landscaping. read more

I always look forward to dancing in this historic building. Great dance floor and beautiful venue. Every night of the week is a different style of dancing while offering classes to match each theme for that evening. I've only been to the Turnverein on Wednesday evenings for the Salsa Central Denver ("salsa nights") and they have rotating DJs and instructors each week. On Wednesdays, they offer salsa classes (beginner and advanced) and also a bachata class later in the evening. This is a great place to bring your date or your kids to learn to dance as there are usually all age groups represented. I like the atmosphere because you actually have room to dance, unlike at a crowded nightclub. It's also a no-pressure type atmosphere where you can actually dance or relax with a drink just listening to the music while watching the other dancers without a lot of interruptions. I highly recommend it to people who particularly enjoy arts & culture in the metro area. Its a great way to support & preserve a bit of Denver history, while having fun learning some new dance skills and meeting like-minded individuals. read more

A great place to dance and learn to dance. Large well kept dance floor. Nice ambiance. A bar for your convenience. Most dances have a lesson right before the dance. I dance West Coast Swing on Sunday nights, Ballroom on Mondays and Saturdays, and Country on Thursdays. It's the largest West Coast Swing dance in Denver, often over 100 people. They also have Salsa, Argentine Tango, and Lindy dancing on other nights. read more

Good people, awesome dance lessons & instructors. There's something for everyone (ballroom, swing, etc). Reasonable prices for drinks, and most importantly spacious dance floor. Everyone there is very laid back, people of all ages go dance & hang out. literally toddlers are bopping around too! Which is not a problem because there's so much room. Everyone is very friendly & welcoming! read more

I cannot give the Turnverein enough praise! It is my favorite salsa venue in the Denver area. $5 admission for members, great teachers, and fun people. It is incredibly easy to meet people there and you will quickly establish a group of friends :-) read more
