Last summer, I was suffering intense pain due to an abscess, My regular dentist was away that week so I ended up having to drive an hour and a half to Woburn on a Saturday to see Dr. Balani but it was worth it. Number one I am so appreciative of his emergency hours. When you need emergency dental care, you NEED it. He and his staff were very kind and understanding and I walked out of the office feeling a million times better. I found him entertaining and very willing to explain the procedures. Followup was great and the fees (though who likes paying dental fees?) were in line with what other dentists charge. His office was super helpful in billing insurance. At my regular followup visit, Dr. Balani did an extra scan on me (at no charge) because I was experiencing some residual discomfort. Right as I was about to leave, he called me back in to look at the scan and noted that there was a possible tiny abscess forming in the tooth next to the one he had worked on. I forgot to mention this to my regular dentist and here we are 9 months later and indeed I have infection under that other tooth. This seems to have been the cause of occasional discomfort on that side of my mouth. So anyway, shout out to Dr. Balani. I wish I had paid more attention to his advice. But mostly I am SUPER GRATEFUL to the way he and his staff took me in quickly and got me out of my pain. Thank you!

I find Dr. Deepak Balani to be the cream of the crop as far knowing his craft. One would hope any…read moredentist treating patients is competent, and I think most are, but he has always struck me as being the best of the best. I believe he's spent so much time perfecting areas outside of general dentistry (such as endontics, even though he's not an endontics) that he able to have a better graps at things that other general dentist might miss or be less proficient in. Full transparency : He is pretty costly. I do not think he's overpriced for the skill that he brings to the table, but because he doesn't accept most insurance (though his office will work with you to try and maximize any out of network benefits you have) it is not going to be feasible for everyone to use him for their everyday dentist. Candidly, I do not always have the means to go to him and will have to sometimes opt for someone network. BUT before doing anything major to my mouth, I got him for his opinion because that's how much I trust. (I am an attorney, I'm someone between skeptical and paranoid - it takes a lot to earn my trust). With all that said, I 100% recommend him. I believe he's worth the hefty price tag if you can reasonably afford it. If you cannot afford him as your general dentist (2x year, X-rays, treatment, ect) I would suggest you at least getting your cleaning with him. He does the cleanings himself, so he is able to spot any problems with your mouth, versus many other offices were the dentist come in and checks the mouth for a few minutes after the hygienist has done their thing. If you need a costly treatment, he is not going to be offended if you explain that you need someone in-network and he will have no problem helping you find someone. But so fair as dental preventive care, I personally find him more proactive than most dentist and I think it's worth having him as part of your dental health team.

I hate to post bad reviews I really do. But this one needs to be warranted…read more Due to some unforeseen circumstances, my insurance changed I could no longer see my regular dentist. I found a dentist that took mass health. So I set up the appointment. Luckily, they could get me in right away as I told him I was having some tooth pain. I saw a doctor Mo. Very personable. I'll be at it seemed like the office was really busy and kind of rushed, but I'm OK with that if the Services are great. It means people like them. He examined me for a bit, didn't even take an x-ray, and told me that"tooth number 28 needed a crown! He explained to me that I must've had a root canal done, but there was no crown there. I've listened to him, but couldn't imagine that I had ever had a root canal done and never had a crown put on. My teeth are not great, so doing something like that is against anything I would ever have done in the past. So I set up an appointment for the next week for the crown. On the way home, I called my regular dentist and explained what it happened and asked them if I had ever had a crown on that tooth that might've fallen off. My memory isn't the greatest sometimes, maybe I just never came back or something. My former dentist told me to come right in and they would take a look at my mouth. When taking a look at my mouth, I was informed that I did have a crown on tooth number 28. And I'll be at a new style crown, there was one there so he didn't understand why Dr. Mo was saying there was no crown there. I called back SNY dental, and informed them of what I had found out. The girl on the phone couldn't have been less enthusiastic when I informed her that indeed I did have a crown on the tooth that the doctor wanted to put a crown on, then it wouldn't be continuing with their services because of the fact he couldn't even realize that it was a crown and not my own(of course this is saying some wonders for my former dentist as if he could do a crown that nobody recognized was a crown. I guess that's really good right?!) I found out after the fact as well that SNY dental build mass health for a different tooth. Not even when they looked at, and not even one that they saw had problems with it. When I called them back to let them know that they had processed the wrong tooth. They didn't care. So I had to call mass health to tell them that the dentist office put in for Services. They didn't provide. Stay away from this place. The fact that this dentist couldn't recognize a crown and wanted me to have $2400 worth of services done without even taking any x-rays or anything? Frightening.

Clearchoice was the only place that did everything in their office. The other two I would of had to travel, either to have my teeth removed and then go back to get temporary dentures or vice versa. Clearchoice was $30,000.00 cheaper than the first place I went to, and $17,000.00 cheater then the second place I went to. Just had the surgery done today and so far so good. Always shop around. I'm glad I did and I'm glad I chose Clearchoice. Also, noticing the other comments, they never bullied me into chosing them.

Then weird things started happening. I got billed for work that wasn't performed, they tried to charge me for x-rays clearly covered by my insurance, doubled-down and said I owed them money when I insisted it was covered, and then claimed "they deal with so many insurance plans they can't keep all of them straight" when I finally pulled up the plan myself and showed them. My parents got hit with "lab fees" that their insurance company said should have never been charged under their contract with the dentist. Lots of other "billing errors" that. Once is a mistake, but something was off basically every visit. Oh! And you get a "billing fee" every time their office screws up, which is fun. If I were a conspiracist, I might say that the office is struggling and they're trying to sneak in extras that patients are unlikely to notice. However, it can also be explained by a few bad hiring choices for office administrators. When I left the practice, I called to get a copy of my x-rays for the new dentist. The office assistant sent a collection of THUMBNAILS of the x-rays. Like, tiny grainy pictures for the new dentist. They got angry and insisted that they couldn't get me any other format, and that the files were just really small when exported and that they had never had an issue with it before. After some heated back and forth, the office assistant described the menu she was seeing in the software, I suggested things she could try to export them, she finally exported the images individually as high-resolution jpgs and sent them to me. Seriously, they hired morons. My family and I have left the practice.

The office was closed, so I requested a call back for today. NO call back, so at about 4:45 today I called and got the recep/admin to discuss what insurance they accept and to determine whether the office might be a match for my wife and I. (Dental insurance can be tricky with percentages, deductibles, maximums, waiting periods, etc and I had several questions about various carriers.) The admin (who I won't name was pleasant enough, but at exactly 5pm (and I mean EXACTLY), she asked to put me on hold and I was disconnected 30 seconds later. I called back within seconds (not minutes), but the nightly voicemail had been activated and no one was picking up. If the disconnect had been an accident and the office doesn't have call back caller ID, I would have hoped she would have waited 60 seconds for MY callback and have picked up the call. If she then said it was closing time and had offered to call me back tomorrow, I would have certainly understood. This is disappointing and appears to be very unprofessional behavior. Maybe they are not fussy for new patients. However if the doctor is in fact seeking new patients, he might think about more vigorous training and accountability at the first point of contact, as he just lost two potential patients. For readers to properly assess this review: I've written a total of four Yelp reviews over the past few years. Three: 5 star reviews and one: 1 star review, so I'm not a chronic complainer. I always went to my appointments regularly for cleanings and annual X-rays and whatever else needed to get done. Recently I moved out of state and attended my first cleaning with another dentist. He did X-rays and saw that my teeth were a mess. Things that couldn't develop in 6 months time since my last visit to Dr. Mooney. I just had 2 crowns put in because of cavities that weren't mentioned to me at any of my previous visits and have already been made aware of more dental work that needs to be done to fix the damage. I am so disappointed with the quality of my care with Dr. Mooney and the disregard for my dental health. I am a compliant patient and would happily proceed with procedures needed for my well being had they been mentioned to me.
