It is also charged annually on a sliding scale by age. The older you are, the cheaper it is. Even if you aren't a resident of the city, you can still join, but you will pay a slightly higher fee (starting at $50 for 50 year olds). There are many activities and classes that take place here. They are often taught by outside individuals or groups. Classes may include language classes, musical instruments, games such as majon or cards, It seems like the majority of them charge a fee, and they are quite expensive. However, there are a few free seminars that take place each month in one of the many classroom spaces. If you have no discretionary funds to spend, you can at least use these things for free as part of your annual membership: pool tables, city provided WiFi, computer stations, and a small gym with both weights and aerobic machines. You can also come to hangout in the A/C, read a book from their small library shelf, and chat with others. There is a kitchen and they do provide some snack items at cost. You can get chips and coffee, they usually have some premade sandwiches for purchase too. It is NOT a nice dining experience. It's not even as interesting or varied as a vending machine which would actually be better in my opinion. The kitchen comes in handy for large organized events. I recommend eating before you come because you can't count on food or drink being available other than water from the fountain and coffee in the kitchen. The facility is only a few years old. It is a bright, clean space. Flyers for events and activities can be easily found in the display holders. You can ask the front desk for a calendar of events flyer to take with you. The city will even provide you transportation to and from the facility from your home within the city limits. You have to book it the week before. It's a charge of .50 cents each way. The staff seem to be older and move at the same slow speed as the seniors that frequent the center. This is a good thing because patience is needed as people age. In the past, I have taught computer classes here for free. The staff have provided a large TV screen on wheels that I can connect my laptop to. There is also a dry erase board for writing information for all to see. I recommend bringing your own HDMI cable and arriving early to setup and make sure everything works. Technical staff are not always on hand to help if you run into an issue. When you hit 50, be sure to give yourself a membership here as a present to yourself. It's definitely cheaper than a gym membership even if the hours are limited to 8 am to 8 pm Monday to Thursday, 8-4 Friday, 8-1 Saturday and closed Sunday.

In 2022, it will be held on Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9am - 4pm. It is so fun to talk to the senior citizens about the wonderful crafts that they have lovingly made to sell. I wish I could buy one of everything! They also have a great craft shop called The Robin's Nest that sells a variety of homemade craft items year round. The Richardson Senior Center recently underwent a renovation during Covid, which was the perfect opportunity to do so. It is absolutely stunning! Gorgeous, comfortable furniture in a setting that is so beautiful to look at! They offer a wide range of services for citizens age 50 and older. Lots of activities and classes are available for a wide range of interests. I'm so proud to live in a town that values our Senior Citizens and provides a wonderful gathering place for them to enjoy!
