I was welcomed with a lovely chat over tea and a scone by the innkeeper Rosaleen O'Leary! I really appreciated her taking time to get to know me and share her thoughts on Irish history and culture. My room was good sized, appealing and a great value. Showers were hot with good water pressure. The gardens on the property were just gorgeous - imagine Secret Garden type plantings. My stay included a complete hot Irish breakfast with lots of coffee, eggs and Irish bacon - similar to a fried ham. Mmmm. I enjoyed a morning walk down the road to Ross Castle, which I highly recommend. Who knew the advancements in medieval architecture and defense? Ross Castle Lodge B&B is adjacent to the Killarney National Park, and one may walk through the park to get to the 'town' of Killarney where you'll find lots of restaurants, pubs & shops. Booking was easy via email. Walkable distance to town and the train station - but a cab is easier for arrivals! They gave us great recommendations and also drove us to the bus station when we had to leave. Killarney was amazing! It was our favorite city in Ireland and we would love to go back. Plenty to do in the city with unique shops and restaurants. I would recommend renting bikes and riding into the national park.

It's just outside the small village of Banteer, and around 17km west of the town of Mallow in north Co. Cork. Agherton Lodge is a 2-storey detached house in a very striking setting, so much so that you feel like you're the lord or lady of the manner staying in this environment, in a pleasant ranch-like way. A really nice lady who was originally from the north welcomed us the early evening we arrived, and she very kindly laid us out tea, coffee & biscuits in the open plan front room, which was much appreciated. There were spacious solid wood floors throughout, (good for my asthma), it all looked both spotlessly clean & new, as well as warm & inviting. There were 4 of us, 1 woman, 3 blokes, staying in 3 rooms. Our 'boss' and only girl each had spacious double rooms to themselves, I shared an equally spacious twin room with the other guy. It was €35 each, which I felt was very good for this standard of accommodation. The bedrooms were fantastic, bright, breezy & cheerful, all with ensuite. The doubles have a lovely indulgent looking bath. Jo was so impressed she photographed hers! The beds, even the singles were blissfully comfortable. My room had a superb south facing view of fields, trees & rolling hills in the background and horses,(very frisky horses), in the foreground, with big french windows that opened onto a balcony. It was just so lovely & peaceful standing on the balcony & watching the horses frolic around, on a lovely mild evening in October, and relaxed me completely before a show I was doing at the nearby Glen Theatre. After a bit of a drink with the generous guys at The Glen, the B&B was equally welcoming at night. It was quiet season I should stress, and it was just us 4 in residence, but bearing in that the mind the couple running it had a son, & a very friendly dog, we were given loads of space, and truly felt it was ours! Breakfast next morning was to an equally high standard, and generous. I always love places that don't seem like guesthouses but places that you feel, well at home in, and we all definitely felt at home here. Real 5 star quality, and a lovely place to base yourself if you want to explore Cork & Kerry by car.

The Tower View B&B was the best B&B that we have ever visited in any country. It is really cute, with a couple of nice sitting rooms and a beautiful breakfast room overlooking a piece of Dingle bay and of course the Tower (off in the distance). The mini farm had a couple of really cute dogs, ducks, chickens, goats, and sheep. Whenever my daughter had a chance to escape, we knew we could find her playing with one of the dogs or feeding the sheep with some kitchen scraps given to her by Mary. Mary and her staff are incredibly friendly and they really made us feel at home. Our group was 3 adults, a teenager, and a baby. Tower View has a large quad bedroom with a huge bathroom that was very clean and accommodated us nicely. Breakfast was also incredible. The Irish version had 2 eggs, 2 rashers, 2 bangers, Black and White Irish Pudding. Oh... and get this. The eggs are fresh from her hens each morning! The color of the yolks was deep yellow and the eggs tasted amazing. Oatmeal and fruit was also a good way to go if you don't want something too heavy. Thanks Mary! We will be back someday.

When Maureen became aware that we were in the Tralee area to visit family we discovered that she actually knew them .... and for logistic reasons our cousin came to her B&B to meet us. Then being the hospitable Irish lady she served tea etc., to all of us. The rooms are upstairs which may be difficult for some but they are adorable Irish Farmhouse rooms. Well equipped. Breakfast was full and plentiful with a pot of tea and/or coffee. Hit and cold items. There are cows on the farm along with other animals including an adorable border collie. The views are spectacular stretching far into the Kerry Countryside. To me Kerry is the most beautiful county in all of Ireland. Finally, we needed to meet a cousin and instead of giving directions Maureen had us follow her to his location Amazing humans and animals at this B&B. They are one reason Ireland is know as being so welcoming!

The Breakfasts were delicious each day and although it is a farmhouse its only a VERY short drive from Tralee's town center and looks over the Slieve Mish mountains. I can't say enough about this location. I will absolutely be back! and Maureen if you run into Michael Kirby say hello for me and tell him how sorry I was I was unable to visit this time! Thanks for a wonderful time!
