At Himalayan kitchen I got to sample several Indian bites: Coconut veggie curry, chicken tika masala and lamb curry with naan bread. All great but the chicken tika is unforgettable and the yogurt sauce for the naan so fresh and tasty! I enjoyed hearing Mo share our local history but even more than that, I loved learning about the lives the man changes thru his other businesses! Our first restaurant stop was Flanagan's. Having visited Ireland previously versus the typical Irish pubs here in the states, wow. I dined while a portrait of Father Flanagan loomed over our table and I was taken back to the Emerald Isle with a tasty stew served with a side of you guessed it, potatoes. They made my mouth water for more. Learning about the impact Father Flanagan made on the area was a bonus and I will definitely return to his namesake pub. Another intriguing restaurant stop, River Horse. The ambiance was matched by the amazing dinner. I don't say amazing lightly, this was a saffron explosion for my taste buds. For each tour the Chef prepares a special meal at his whim, he makes each different depending on his mood and I'm pretty sure he must have had the best day of his life. I've never had a better meal. Chris, our tour guide, truly loves sharing the history of Park City and the cuisine of the Main Street area with her guests. ​ I was most impressed that Chris texted me this morning to confirm my tour reservation. The tour started at the Park City Museum (which I had wanted to see). Admission price is included in the food tour price. Chris skillfully balanced giving us the history of Park City that she knew along with letting us watch short films in the museum's various exhibits. After 30 minutes in the museum, we embarked on the restaurant tour.​ ​ Our first stop was Vinto Pizzeria, where we were treated to a three course meal: the V salad, TWO pizzas (Patate and Margherita), and our choice of gelato or sorbetto. I had the lychee sorbetto which was heaven in your mouth. The meal was excellent, well-paced, and fun as Chris set a relaxed atmosphere which allowed the six of us attendees the opportunity to get to know each other.​ ​ We then walked along Silver Creek to our next stop, Handle, a chef-owned restaurant. We were served one of their signature dishes: General Tso Cauliflower. I've had General Tso chicken and was intrigued with how the chef used the General Tso flavor to coat the roasted cauliflower, topping it with cilantro and sriracha vinaigrette. The dish was very tasty.​ ​ We continued our leisurely walk up Main Street, stopping along the way for various historical tidbits. Our final stop was Tekila Mexican Grill and Cantina. We enjoyed chips and dip and our choice of entrees. I opted for the Carnitas Takos This last stop allowed us not only to enjoy a great meal (again) but also to sit and enjoy each other's company. Chris did not rush us off but allowed the group to chat to our heart's content. At the end of her tour, she gave each of us a homemade pumpkin cookie!​ ​ Chris's kind heart did not end there. My husband and I walked back down Main Street to our hotel. She happened to be on the free trolley and had the driver stop and pick us up so we wouldn't have to walk in the cold, rainy weather. ​ ​ I highly recommend this tour. Over the past year, Utah has introduced me to inspiring people that have an idea and then proceed to DO SOMETHING about it. Nicole Ames and her husband, Glen, are in that group. After visiting other cities that endorse local businesses through tourism they decided that 25th Street was missing this amazing opportunity. Nicole, founder of the Good Eats Tour, rallied all the participants on Grant and 25th Street around 1:30pm on Saturday. We were introduced to each other and briefed on our tour. My partners-in-crime for this gluttonous day included my husband, Jason, and my Grandma, Sandra. I love food (my backside can attest to this ) but I also love meeting new people, learning new things and spending time with my favorite peeps so I knew this tour would be perfect. Nicole explained the inspiration for the Good Eats Tour name. Her Grandma Sloan owned the Good Eats Café in Ogden where she met her Grandfather. The story has been retold over generations and while she doesn't have proof of this, she chooses to believe it's true. Being a sucker for an amazing love story, I believe it too. When you experience the Good Eats Tour make sure to bring water! It gets very hot in the summer months and you'll be happy to have it. The Good Eats Food Tours isn't just about discovering new restaurants and food, it's about rediscovering Ogden's history and its future. She also reminded us of Ogden's willingness to help those in need like when the poor and destitute arrived through Union Station, we welcomed them and came together as a community. Chris & Ashley, co-owners of New World Distillery, have perfected the ideal distillery tour. It was a seamless blend of technical distilling knowledge, equipment explanations, liquor industry lore, & of course, taste-testing. We tasted 7 of their products, straight & neat, & learned a bit about each one. The vodka was amazingly drinkable. Distilled from agave, it has a pleasant sweetness to it that differentiates it from other vodkas. It also, unsurprisingly, smells a bit like tequila. At the tail end of the tour, Chris made the smooooothest transition to a lil speech on supporting small distilling. The war against big booze rages on, but Chris definitely gained some small booze warriors that day. It's clear they love motorcycles at this distillery. Half of the spots out front are reserved for bikes. I hope to come back on my hog someday. Thank you Chris & Ashley for inviting us into your world for a little bit.
