When I discovered our roof was leaking I called numerous roofing contractors and Scott was the first of only two who responded. When he arrived to inspect the roof his inspection involved examining the roof inside and out, he walked the property identifying landscaping that needed protecting, and areas where his crews could and could not go (such as where the septic tank was located). He even launched a drone that took aerial photos he used in his presentation to show us the obvious problem areas as well as areas that weren't so obvious (such as flashing around chimneys and such). He then educated my wife and I on a variety of roofing topics such as the necessity of proper roof ventilation, how a house without soffits presents roofing challenges (our house has no soffits), flashing: what it does, why it's there and the proper way to install it, ice dams, etc (I now know more about roofs than I ever thought I would!) He went over insurance requirements like workman's comp and provided proof that he carried the necessary insurance in the unlikely event that one of his employees was injured while on our property. He walked us through all the roofing options he could provide explaining why he carried those particular lines of roofing materials. All in all, a very thorough briefing and it was readily apparent Scott knew his business. Of the two contractors, Scott was NOT the lowest bidder but my wife and I decided we were going with him anyway for two reasons: The first was his knowledge and the second was his product line. The pitch is one thing, execution is another thing entirely and I don't mind telling you I was more than a little nervous as I left town to go back to work...leaving oversight of the entire roofing project in the hands of my wife. I trust my wife in these situations but Dennison was a relative unknown at this point. I need not have worried. Scott assigned Luis and his crew to our roofing project and those men were complete professionals from start to finish. Materials were neatly stacked where they were supposed to be, landscaping was covered to protect it where needed and exterior walls were covered to protect them from falling debris when the old roof was stripped off. Luis and his crew expertly installed the new roof and then spent days cleaning up ensuring our yard was completely in order before they left. To date, I have found precisely ONE nail in the yard. My wife is a retired manager and is not easily impressed but Luis and his crew impressed her so much she bought gift cards for each of them to express her thanks for a job well done! Honestly, I've never seen her do that in over 30 years of marriage. Then the Gutter Topper team moved in. During our first winter in Michigan, I noticed HUGE icicles hanging from the roof over the front door area. When Scott mentioned there was a heat option on the Gutter Toppers, my ears pricked up. We decided to go for it and this winter...there hasn't been a single icicle observed on our entire roof line (nor a single leaf in the gutters) to date. After much research, we chose Dennison Exterior Solutions & Gutter Toppers to replace our 26 year old roof. One of the main reasons that we chose Dennison is that they were one of the few companies that advertised a complete solution, including new roof, gutters, downspouts and Gutter Toppers. All communications with Scott Dennison and Sam, the Installation Manager, were very fast and extremely thorough. A very comprehensive inspection was initially completed, including accessing the attic. Numerous photos were taken both in the attic and of the outside of the house. Additionally, a drone was used to capture a detailed overview of what the project would include. A considerable amount of time was spent explaining proper ventilation and the changes needed to have our project be in compliance for warranty certification. A detailed explanation for all stages of the project was provided along with the quote and before the work started. Provided excellent customer service. Walked me through the entire process, and the products used. The installers met with me prior to project start to discuss what was being installed, and how long it would take to complete. Excellent warranties for the shingles, winter and ice guard. Provided video example of how their ridge vent product moves air through attic. Excellent price in my opinion of foil heat barrier throughout attic. Took the time to cut the barrier sheets to size and shape around attic rafters and objects in attic, the best that they could. Lots of pictures provided of the beginning, middle, and end of the project. Great price for replacing entire roof, but left the decking as it was still good condition. Also replaced two old windows and caulked the old sill, where there was exposed wood. The crew even used a large plywood piece to cover and protect the plastic cover for my basement window when they throwing debris off my roof. An excellent detail to protect homeowner property. The crew also installed flex hose to a unattached bathroom fan vent in the attic. They attached it to a new vent box in the newly installed roof. The experience with Gutter Topper was fantastic. The initial visit to do an estimate was clear, detailed and very easy. Dennison was an absolute pleasure to work with. I had several quotes done. Sam the Install Manager did the most through inspection during the estimate process. He was the only one who actually looked in the attic and verified ventilation needs during the estimate process. When Scott provided me with my estimate, I was very straight forward on what my price range was and what I hoped to accomplish. The work required complete tear-off of three layers of old weathered shingles and replacement of rotted sheathing on an 87 year old house. New asphalt/fiberglass shingles were installed overall. Also, a new gutter and leaf protector installed on one end of gable roof The work went very well, they were done in two days and cleaned up all of the debris including a magnetic pick up of the nails in the adjacent driveway. Two chimneys required new flashing as well. Over a hundred square feet of rotted sheathing was replaced. I highly recommend this firm. read more
