I wasn't expecting California-level pricing, but the costs here were surprisingly affordable--far lower than I'd feared. We created a solid plan to address my dental needs, agreed on a manageable payment plan, I joined as a member, signed up for their maintenance program, and scheduled my next appointment for next week. I called several offices, and many told me upfront that they didn't accept Guardian. When I contacted Spring Hill Smiles, they told me they did accept Guardian and even asked for my insurance information over the phone. I provided it, and we scheduled an appointment. When I arrived, I gave them my insurance card, which they scanned before having me complete the standard paperwork. Nothing was said about being out-of-network or that they didn't actually take my insurance. During the visit, they performed a number of X-rays and a cleaning. They asked if I wanted fluoride treatment, noting it would be an additional charge since insurance didn't cover it. I declined. I also met with the dentist to discuss a treatment plan that included a filling and two cosmetic procedures. We reviewed what would and wouldn't be covered by insurance, and I was given a printed breakdown before scheduling the follow-up. About a month later, I was shocked to receive a bill for over $500--because, as it turns out, they don't accept Guardian insurance. When I reached out via phone and email, the response I received was underwhelming: "We understand your disappointment, and while our office is out-of-network with Guardian, we would like to explore options to help you manage the balance. We can offer an interest-free payment plan for up to four months, splitting the payments into $143.00 per month." While they framed this as helpful, it misses the point entirely. At no point was I told they were out-of-network. If I had known, I never would have gone there. The lack of transparency and poor communication are unacceptable, and I feel taken advantage of.
