Dennis Neal is a cranky, no-BS, "just tell the story", yet incredibly talented and likeable guy. This course is about as raw and story-centered as an acting class can get. In a city filled with classes, methodologies, resume-builders and other ways to simply spend money, Dennis's class has grown me the most as an actress. During class (every class is a small group, there were never more than 12 students) every single person works. You will leave class tired and somewhat exhausted, yet feeling great about the work that you did. You will run through monologues and scene text in multiple ways, using multiple approaches, emotions, tactics, and many times without resting in between. You are TRAINING as an actor - that is what I mean by saying you will WORK.
Dennis takes the time to get to know you personally, so he can help you can break barriers to become a better actor. Sometimes this process was challenging for me, as I made self-discoveries and identified personal habits that I did not realize were appearing in my work. Because Dennis takes the time to connect and work with every person, you quickly develop trust in him as a coach, and trust in the rest of the group. It is this type of environment that makes the actor want to work, and want to improve.
Again, there are an infinite number of coaches and acting/scene study classes in Los Angeles. I have audited several, and paid some of them lots of money for about 5-10 minutes of "work" time out of the 3-4 hour class. Please do not spend $300+ on a class that does not grow you as an actor. Instead, save a little cash, and get to know Dennis Neal. You WILL become a better actor, script analyst, and story teller. read more
