The staff was incredibly patient and supportive throughout my entire journey. They never made me feel rushed or discouraged, and truly helped me grow both professionally and personally. A very special thank you to the Director and one of my instructors, Mrs. P, her encouragement helped make all the difference. Highly recommend to anyone considering esthetics!

I got a relaxer last time, but this time my hair was (mostly) natural and I wanted to keep it that way. I requested a natural hair process of wash, dry, and trim. I had a style picture sample to show them too. My stylist (Tranise? Denise? Raynisa?)was more of a novice in need of supervision this time than my previous stylist, who was mostly there to accrue hours. She was friendly and approachable. As with my last service, I paid FIRST, word of warning to those who go. Not sure what the return/exchange policy is there for very unsatisfied customers. The atmosphere was upbeat and supportive, with my signs encouraging smiling and positivity. There seemed to be the same supply issues, however, of equipment missing, misplaced, or unavailable. I was told a diffuser would be used to keep my curl while drying, but no one seemed to have one. After a mishap or two (too much product, had to rinse it out) I was placed under the dryer but no additional conditioner was applied to my hair. I should have requested it but really should I have to? I got some good advice on maintenance, and I got the style that I wanted too. When I am more comfortable handling my hair I will go back, maybe bring some equipment/product just in case.

So the receptionist at that time knew it would be a male and female coming in (unfortunately, this is important). When we got there I did notice some scuffling around and it seemed like the receptionist wanted to see who would provide service for who, or something completely separate was happening, but I did notice. I talked to my student and went to the spa area. After a couple of minutes my husband also joined. I called his name, just saying hi since I knew he was excited because this was his first back facial. He tells me that the student said she is "uncomfortable touching a males back, so she can only do the facial". I told him we would just leave because he was looking forward to that aspect of the stress relief. The receptionist saw us leaving and confirmed that the student did say she was uncomfortable, and that she was the only one available to service my husband. Not sure how true that is because we saw several students walking around. Overall, I feel like this could have been handled so many other ways rather than making my husband feel like he is making someone uncomfortable for being a guy with a back at a spa ‍. I doubt I will be back with him or alone, we were caught off guard by the denial of service.

Bottom line: This is a private college and that means it will cost more. However, with the correct…read moreplanning before attending you can make this school affordable as I have done. Because it's a private school there are more scholarships available. I received the $6,000 a year scholarship for transfer because I came in from a community college with a GPA above 3.0. I worked hard for my grades and applied for as many scholarships I could before attending Columbia. PLAN PLAN PLAN. It's on you because no one else will take care of you. Welcome to being a responsible adult in a world where competition is very high, and you will need to work harder than ever to gain and retain creative jobs. I feel it's very upsetting when students decide to rate this school strictly on price. Our economy is wrong in the first place because an education shouldn't cost this much, but that's not Columbia's fault. Contact your representatives if it upsets you. Every single teacher has been life changing for me and absolutely amazing. Each teacher I have worked with has contributed to my learning and development experience in wonderful ways. Every teacher at Columbia is a professional with amazing "in the field" experience. Many of my teachers are actively working right now in the roles I would someday aspire to also hold. So.... DON'T shoot yourself in the foot with these people because they will most likely play a role in hiring you (it's a small world in the creative field). To gain an education from people like this will cost money. Every working class in my line of study (musical theater) has been like a Rep and Master class= Real work with real experience. Columbia is a great school with tons of student activities. I am set to graduate in May 2017. I took advantage of student meet ups, attending student groups, free food, free concerts and shows, discounts at local restaurants, free gym access, discount tickets, free yoga, and discounts at local yoga studios. I NEED to take advantage of the career center and build a portfolio (I hope to do this in my final semester). But there are so many organizations for students and fun activities. Get involved and get your money's worth because yes it is expensive but Columbia is not the most expensive school by far. With a good solid plan you can make it more affordable. I am a single student that had ZERO help from mom and dad or any family. I was 100% on my own. I knew I couldn't afford Columbia for 4 years so I went to a community college first and worked with the councilor taking transferable classes to meet gen-ed requirements. This is how I made my education more affordable. I worked hard for a high GPA and gained referrals so I could take advantage of scholarships. I only share my story because I read a lot of negative feedback strictly rated around cost. Financial services and the scholarship departments need to become your best friends.
