Within a few steps you are immersed in Autumn, sorta warm, hint of cold in the air, leaves blowing out of the trees like snow and a fantastic amount of leaves carpeting the ground. All colors - yellow, green, brown, crimson, so beautiful. I was looking for poison ivy - it can be on the trail in bright red, there is a picture at the entrance- but didn't find it. The wind was whooshing around, and you can see the Grand River as you walk into to park. The trail down to the river is step, well marked and slippery with all the leaves. Wear hiking shoes w tread. The trail has fantastic rock formations, erosion of the soft stone plays a critical part in the unique formation, ridges, ledges, springs and seeps, and crevices. The rocks can be slippery and there are roots interspersed in the leaves. It was slow going ... but no falls or slips for me or hubby. If you have kids- help & watch them. They have very nice, newly built play equipment for kids, but it is separated between young children (toddlers) and older kids (up to 12). There is a man-made lake with a sandy beach. It's nice to be able to stop here in the summer for a quick dip without fighting huge crowds. There are some baseball diamonds as well as picnic shelters. My favorite part though is the trail system. They have a well maintained system through the woods and around the lake, and it's never really busy so if you like to take peaceful, quiet hikes this is your place!

Many people just spread out on the grass which was fine. Maybe that's why there wasn't as much goose poop as other beaches I've visited lately... The water has a mostly sandy bottom with some pebbles and such but I didn't really feel any seaweed which was good. There's a roped off swimming area that is very large. The lake itself was packed with boats and jet skis. The playground was awesome and a bit different than the typical structure. We didn't utilize the back track but it looked cute! There's a bar on the other side of the street that was playing live music and we could hear it from the playground easily. The new bathrooms are nice. There's also a concession stand - I think the hot dogs were $2 or $3, they had nachos and other basic beach snacks but we didn't get anything.

Too many irresponsible dog owners that think because their dog responds to its name the 5th time…read morebeing called that they have good recall... I've had to tell multiple people to get their dogs away from mine because they can't control them or mind you even see where there at (they're either on the other side of the lake or too busy on their phones to manage their dogs). Last time I checked good recall should be as soon as you say your dogs name they come or stay next to you not the million times you have to yell it. I love this lake for my dog but the owners of other dogs there ruin it with their lack of control and arrogance. Not all dogs are expected to have play dates, "socialize", or hangout with their dogs there. My dog just wants to swim, play fetch, and be left alone by other dogs without them trying to assert their dominance over him. People are so entitled there and lazy.
