Delta K9 assessed our home--two small children, three male dogs, two stories and full-time staff--and assured us Ax was perfect. We paid $73,000 for Ax and $5,000 to train our Frenchie, Remy, alongside him. Then they identified aggression toward our other shepherd and said all three dogs needed training. They quoted $8,000, attempted to charge it despite Remy's existing payment, and ultimately charged another $5,500 instead of honoring the quoted rates. A promised month became three. Ax reportedly became sick. His replacement, Kobe, arrived with a large nose wound, was described as Level 2, and behaved toward my one-year-old in a way that concerned both me and the trainer. After I emailed the owner, they unexpectedly brought a third dog, Puma, claiming he was worth $100,000 and had been thoroughly tested with Remy. At home, Puma refused the stairs, feared the backyard, urinated throughout the kitchen and knocked over my toddler while pursuing her dropped toy. Their response included a nighttime crate and unsuccessful attempts to coax him upstairs. Then he bit Remy--the very dog we paid to have trained to prevent this. Remy also returned underweight, prompting our vet to question his feeding, and with a respiratory infection. We returned Puma. His aggression over toys and what we witnessed as a lack of discernment made us afraid to keep him around our two small children. Meanwhile, Delta charged $2,111 monthly for food and grooming: $6,333 before we even received a dog. When questioned, they said ownership began at signing--even though they told us Ax was sick and sent back to Germany, without providing veterinary records or proof. The owner Mike began every conversation we had to address our concerns as basically a threat "I don't want to ruin our professional relationship" and yelled at us on the phone when we were calling him to say, "puma bit remy, come collect him". He was hostile, disrespectful and unprofessional". Now they are refusing to refund the money paid and claiming we owe even more. We paid for protection and peace of mind. I don't know where to start! Delta K9 has done such a great job with our 2 year old GSD Buzz. He had behavior issues, anxiety issues, and would not focus under high stress situations. It has been 8 (what felt like) very long weeks, but they were all worth it. Grace has done such a great job with him and Buzz loves her (a sign of a good trainer if you ask meHe is confident, attentive, but most of all he is still himself. While he is very well behaved (a 180 shift from before), he still has his same personality, still likes to play, and is still himself. I would like to add, we tried other trainers (that had great reviews) prior to Delta, but they were not ready for a high drive dog like Buzz. I can't recommend coming straight to Delta enough. They also ensure you are properly prepared to handle your dog. With transition sessions and answering and asking every question possible, they don't leave any stone unturned. read more

I called on a Friday evening hoping Delta had spots available over the weekend for board and train following a bad bite situation with my mom and my 8 year old Border Collie who has had a bad history of resource guarding. I was going out of town the following week and had no idea where to take him because I didn't trust anyone to watch him. They said I could bring him in the next day so I dropped him Saturday morning after explaining to them what I wanted and expected. I know "retraining" older dogs is unpopular because of the whole can't teach an old dog new tricks saying but that is so so wrong! Percy is the smartest and best dog I've ever had and I've personally never had an issue with him but because of my work schedule, he is often left with different caretakers who tend to not follow rules which leads to bad behavior. Delta paired Percy with Grace who specializes in aggressive behavior and is also the only female trainer at the facility. She was absolutely amazing and Percy adores her. She was able to explain to my mom (who is the main caretaker when I'm away) the importance of boundaries, structure, and continuous training, especially for such an intelligent dog. Percy has been on his best behavior since coming home and my mom has been 10/10 on it with continuing his training and both of them seem so much happier. He became very protective and dog reactive from around 8 months old. I did my best to work on giving him corrections and desensitizing him, but it was also challenging getting my stubborn husband and rowdy young daughters on-board as well. We were using a prong collar that apparently, the gauge was way too big, more for a 130 lb dog, according to the head trainer, Vinny [my bad, main Trainer, Grace, gave him a new smaller one]. Hence why my corrections weren't doing the trick and I was a little late on that too. **Self-accountability.** [wink, wink] He's boarded there in Jan 2022 when my hubby and I celebrated our 10yr anniversary. Owner, Mike, suggested we bring him back for obedience training before he gets even stronger and somebody gets hurt. Unfortunately, the timing didn't work out then because my 8yo was in school and I would have to head back to DK9A for the 3-day Transfer process which must be done in three *consecutive* days and we have 1.25-1.5hr commute one-way with decent traffic on the dreaded 405 fwy. We figured it best to wait to board and train him when we left for vacation and they would update me on his progress once a week with a few phone calls to address my long list of concerns. Mike was very patient and informative in doing so. After 5.5 weeks of training [varies per dog/family] and completing the 3-day transfer of learning and working with his amazing trainer, Grace, speaking with a few other DK9A trainers, and Mike, here are the major improvements we noticed as of this writing: 1) He no longer barks at other dogs on our walks as long as my husband, 8yr old [pictured], and I [main handler] make sure to give him a quick pop on the lead to correct him before he starts fixating on a person, bird/squirrel/smaller animal [high prey drive] or another dog [dog reactive]. Prior to OB training, he would lunge towards another dog, bark ferociously like he'd wanna kill them or eat a yappy Pomeranian/Maltese for a snack. 2) He no longer pulls hard on our walks. YAYYyyy!!! 3) He listens to our basic commands a lot better too! SIT, STAY, DOWN, PLACE - all big improvements. I reintroduced crate training upon his first day home and it was a smooth transition. He was already used to "bed" on his cot bed which is now, "place." His orthopedic bed remains "bed." He doesn't leave Place unless we tell him too [still a daily work in progress at home]. 4) We learned not to give him treats for small feats, but greater tasks since he's already very food and toy motivated (ex: no treat just for sitting, but give treat at the *end* of multiple tasks, always give a treat for good recall). This may be different for other dogs, please speak with a DK9A trainer for individualized tips. 5) His recall was great at their facility, but we're still working on that at home both indoors and especially outdoors with a lead and prong collar (ask them for what size Herm Sprenger collar is best for your dog). We also purchased an Anchor convertible slip lead before leaving on his final day there. 6) He hasn't barked at the "Yappy Dog/House" even though they barked at him from behind their tall backyard fence on our walks around our neighborhood since pickup on Thurs., 7/20/23 (we walk/play/train him daily). 7) He no longer pulls to sniff and mark every frickin thing on our walks. We couldn't be more ecstatic about how much more pleasant our walks are with Koa and forever grateful to his trainer, Grace. Special shoutout to the girls at the front office [hi Adel & Celia!] for being so patient and entertaining my daughters so I could speak with Grace, Mike, and train with Koa. Lord knows how challenging it is to manage my 8yr old's chronic autoimmune T1d (not like T2d - insulin dependent vs insulin resistant, she can't reverse or outgrow it, no cure), being a full-time mom and main caregiver, and making time to train Koa. Now that he's more well-behaved, I can actually have my oldest daughter walk him around our neighborhood, having her pass him to me like how Grace showed us, before another dog/owner approaches us. Note: Koa's 15 months old, 80lbs, intact. He likes to be the dominant male in our neighborhood. DK9A did the hard work and it's up to us to keep up the daily training now that we learned how to do it better. We anticipate being able to bring him to dog-friendly beaches in the next week or two, on-lead with his "DO NOT PET" tactical collar and/or harness of course, bc we're often surrounded by none-the-wiser. He's the third dog [and smartest] we've owned thus far. We're open to e-collar training with Grace in the near future too for more confidence & fun outdoors. read more

With our dog having anxiety and a big fear of dogs and people, we were looking forward to a comforting boarding experience for our scared two year old dog as we had booked the second best room with daily video updates and their own aggressive dog handler. Upon drop off, we were not able to see the room in person and were told we would receive our first video promptly to ease our nerves and actually be able to see where he will be staying. Hours go by and no video was sent. After emailing, calling, and dming for 2 days, we were finally able to reach them by phone and were told that we haven't received a video because our dog is too aggressive. Isn't this K9 academy specifically for aggressive dogs? The website specifically states there is no dog they cannot handle. We paid for the second best room that comes with an aggressive dog handler that should specialize in these kind of dogs. It felt as we were being faulted for them not sending the promised videos because of our dog which is very confusing as again, we booked this room because we knew he'd be with professionals. If he was too aggressive, why did we have to reach out multiple times to be told this information where they should've communicated this to us in the first place. We received a video on the 3rd day of him walking outside (hair standing up on his back and very nervous, looking as if it was his first time out in the play area) and then another with him in his room from the outside of the glass door. Couldn't we have gotten a video of him through the glass door the first or second day if he was being aggressive to the handlers outside of the room? To add, the room is extremely small with one bed and a water bowl (didn't see the toys we brought him in the video and no blankets were allowed) Overall, there was a extreme lack of communication and unprofessionalism when it came to ensuring we felt that our dog was cared for. There was no reassurance to know that the dogs felt safe and comfortable especially since you can't see inside and all you hear is constant barking (of course we understand this is a dog training facility and there will be loud noise but that being the only impression and accessible place for owners is unsettling) Please do not promote that your business can handle all dogs and make us pay for a special room specifically for aggressive dogs if you cannot take proper care and fulfill all of the promises listed on your website. Paid $1,289 for 10 nights because this place supposedly "specializes with aggressive dogs". My dog is dog aggressive and I specifically requested he be kept away from other dogs because he gets aggressive and anxious. I brought his food, treats, water/food bowl, toy, leash and prong collar. I never requested any "bath" or "little shower" because he easily gets hot spots. I got a video of him with another dog around and when I asked about it I was told he was fine with the other dogs around. When I went to pick him up I was told they gave him a "little shower" then i was given my leash that was stored wet in a plastic bag smelling of mold which I asked about and was then given a replacement. I brought a thick 6 foot leash that cost me $40 because it was durable material, my dog is 100 pound German shepherd,i was given a 4 foot thin almost plastic like leash as a replacement. I asked if he had been kept in a room (more expensive but was supposed to keep him away from other dogs so he wouldn't get aggressive)or a kennel, he said a room. My dog came out looking dazed, I brought him home and he couldn't get out of the car and was falling all over the place. I called to ask what he was given and was told that just his food. I checked my dog for possible wounds, no wounds but when I checked his teeth, he has chips and grate marks, so I'm pretty sure he was kept in a kennel and broke his teeth chewing on the bars. He only anxiously chews when he's around other dogs. I don't know how expensive his dental work is going to be but certainly more than $1200. Upon further inspecting him, he has sores on his toes as well and his testicle is chafed raw. If you love your pets and don't want to get ripped off, don't bring them here. read more

If you don't want to read it all, the short of it is I ENTHUSIASTICALLY RECOMMEND Delta K9. I knew that I was in over my head with training my latest puppy. All the skills I had of training my other dogs just weren't working with her. One day I had called Delta K9 about their boarding program and the subject of training came up. They recommended I bring her in for an assessment. Even though I didn't board her with them at the time, I remembered the conversation and a couple of weeks later reached out to schedule an assessment. I met with Mike, the lead trainer, and immediately felt at ease. He recommended the board and train program, answered all my questions and really made me feel comfortable. While I was there I met a few of the other trainers, and I can say everyone was so friendly and informative. I got a very good feeling from all of them. I ended up signing my pup up for the board and train program almost immediately after that. She was with them for a month, and during that time I got regular updates on her progress and truly got the sense that they cared - because they truly do. When it was time for the handoff, they accommodated my schedule and left me with skills on how to work with my newly trained dog. Since picking her up, I've needed a little bit more assistance from time to time and the whole team has been very accommodating. They don't believe in training and being done. They believe in their work and stand behind it and want to ensure the owner knows what they're doing. My husband and I were searching for months for a boarding facility that not only we could trust but could properly and safely handle our 160 lb Intact Male Cane Corso. He offered to customize his diet to raw or cooked- per our request. Mike, the owner was personally involved throughout the entire training duration and saw to it that our dog was progressing. Each area that we wanted to see progress from our dog was addressed , demonstrated, and taught to us to continue at home for long term success. We invested In our Cane Corso for protection and he had obedience training but we needed him to be at the next level and 100% confident , that Is what we received. We adopted a Maltese from the shelter a few months ago. We boarded him at Delta K9 for behavioral training due to his aggressiveness toward other people and dogs. Trainer Grace and the team were amazing. During the transfer days, Grace gave detailed instructions to make sure we will continue the rehab process at home. We now seem to have a different dog. We are forever thankful to Mike and staff. We brought in our 2 shepherds that were impossible to handle to Mike. 4 weeks board and train at Delta was the best decision we made for our Sheperds. We are able to walk them without the dogs becoming reactive to people and other dogs. The dog trainer Grace and Mike brough us in to teach us to handle our two Sheperds. I want thank Mike and Staff for educating us how to handle our dogs. Amazing transformation from pulling and reactive to people and animals. We have a 2 year old Pit Bull mix rescue who is reactive to strangers. We had never boarded him before and needed to travel to LA for a couple of days. We found Delta K9 online and decided to give it a try. There were multiple staff there when we arrived. Ollie was naturally scared but did not react to any of the staff. They sent me a video the following morning showing him happy and playful. When we picked him up, he was happy to see me, but at the same time, he was happy to be with Jose and Michael who were there at the time. Mike and his staff know their stuff.
