I happen to work at the Delta Cargo in Lexington, KY, so I know a thing or two about how operations should work. I booked my DASH shipment over the phone about 45 minutes before cutoff time (an hour before the flight departs). Arriving at the facility is a little overwhelming, as there are several dozen bays for 18-wheelers. Following the signs are simple enough. The cargo agent was friendly and knowledgeable. He followed all of the security procedures and paperwork, and even went above and beyond by finding me a used box for my shipment, a car key. My shipment was processed and delivered to and loaded on the plane in time, and my key was shipped home on the next flight to Lexington without an issue. My mom picked up the key at the Delta Cargo facility in Lexington 2 hours later. I'm not sure of another service with that type of turnaround. read more

We drove 2.5 hours to fly 4 dogs to Amsterdam. We got here at 130 (cutoff was 2pm) Two of the dogs they said couldn't fit in their two crates even though THEY FLEW HERE IN THE SAME CRATES. One dog barely takes up half of the kennel and the other dog can sit just fine and turn around. After bickering with us they then said "oh it's past 2pm we're not taking any of the dogs". read more

My husband and I are Doberman breeders. We have now used every airline in Atlanta for shipping puppies. Delta is by far the best choice! PROS: - Clean facility with ramps, carts to place kennels on, and an easy check in process. - You can book a reservation online and receive an email confirmation (this saves so much time because you don't have to call the airline's customer service, be transferred to cargo, set up the shipment, and then write it all down for your records). - Online bookings save your credit card so payment is immediately processed when you are checking in (saves time). - You have the option of checking in on an ipad at the cargo facility, or you can check in from the Delta app on your phone (also saves time). - They had several stations of employees working making the line and wait not too bad. - They actually inspect the kennel to insure it is safe. Other airlines don't even look at the dog. CONS: - The cargo facility does not open until 5am which makes it a time crunch to check in for early flights. - The cargo facility actually has a "team meeting" at 5am and they don't take customers until around 5:20am. This was exceptionally irritating because we arrived by 4:24am as instructed on the online booking. Waited until 5am and was then very irritated when the staff came in right at 5am and then refused to let us in until their "meeting" was over. I would recommend to Delta to change the opening time to 5:30am or have your employees come in at 4:30-4:45 for a meeting. Also fix your website to notify opening times. We had our dog shipped across the country. JFK-SFO. He is a Siberian Husky, and we had a giant crate for him to comfortably get through the flight. Our dog has pretty bad separation issues, and howls, cries, and tries to break out if we aren't around. So we were fearing that he would hurt himself. It wasn't an easy decision to get him shipped, but it was a necessity. We got him really tired, by giving him a two hour exercise routine so he can be more relaxed on the flight. My brother was picking him up on the other side. We called Delta for all the information, but they forgot to inform us the most important thing... Where we drop him off. We went to the terminal, with a massive crate, parked the car and took the dog inside the airport. It was definitely awesome to have our husky be appreciated by dozens of international travelers. But once we reach the counter, they say that we have to go to Delta Cargo. Different building. We had 10 minutes to get there, so we took a cab from the front of the airport (because it would take longer to pick up my car from parking). We take the cab and on the way call Delta cargo. They say we missed the cut off. So we turned the cab back around to our car. We used google maps to find Delta Cargo. The address on maps was incorrect, and lead us to another cargo. So the man instructed us to go else where. We did this a few times, entered the wrong cargo until people instructed us to the right place. Finally we found it. It was an hour long process to get his crate verified, and documents signed. But we finally had it done. We went through a program called DASH, which is 100% satisfaction and safety. The price came out to be way cheaper than quoted online for the size of our crate. And that was a huge relief. The man helped a lot and patiently went through the process. DASH says we can drop him off an hour before, and pick him up an hour after the flight. But what ended up happening was they took him an hour and 45 minutes before the flight, and he was ready to pick up in half an hour. My brother went through the same frustration looking for Delta Cargo in SFO. He typed in the address on google maps, and it lead him to nowhere. He found the place after half hour. DASH program definitely got our pup through the flight and cargo gracefully. Our dog had apparently been sleeping the whole time, and came out sort of disoriented. But that's natural. He was fine, and happy when he came out. Our only complaint is with the directions to Delta Cargo. It's like this place is extremely exclusive. No proper directions for a normal person who wants to ship the dog and pick him up. My recommendation is to reach the vicinity 2 and a half hours before the flight time for Drop Off. Half hour to find the place, and 1 hour for paper work and good bye. They need him an hour to an hour and a half before the flight so he reaches the plane in time (apparently that takes an hour to load him). And I suggest you track your dog online, see when he lands, it'll tell you when he's ready for pick up. But if you care enough about your dog, then be there well in advance before he is available for pick up. My recommendation is reach by the time he lands. Even though they say it takes an hour for him to get off the plane. Our pup was ready in half an hour. And my brother was also looking for the place for about 35 minutes. Overall great service and responsibility. Health Certificate is needed 10 days prior to flight by vet. Check the requirements and make sure he is ready to fly. Make sure the crate is big enough (he can stand erect without the top of his head, fur or ears touching the roof of the crate) I suggest Delta Cargo to get a phone in each office where the pick ups and drop offs happen. I'm sure they have phones, because they are offices, so just make the number public instead of hiding it from us. Because we have no clue where you are. The delta cargo phone number is of no help when we are looking for the place. They are only good for information and flight booking. read more

I would give them NEGATIVE stars if I could. Shipping our pets with them was an absolute nightmare. First, they booked us on a flight when our pets could not be shipped out because the Sacramento cargo office was closed. How is it that the corporate office doesn't even know when the airport cargo offices are open??? So we went over to the airport and a Delta agent and his supervisor spent THREE HOURS (and I'm not exaggerating) trying to get Delta Cargo in Atlanta to get everything rescheduled. THREE HOURS!! Delta Cargo even disconnected their own people---and had them on hold for HALF AN HOUR. It was absolutely insane. After three hours, we walked away with an itinerary that said our pets were booked on the flight leaving at noon. We got to the cargo office at 9 am. They tell us, no, Atlanta actually booked you on the 6 am flight---a flight we could NOT get our pets on because the cargo office didn't open in time to make that flight. And we even heard the agent the night before tell the people in Atlanta this while we were standing there!!!! So since we'd already missed the 6 am flight the local cargo folks get our pets rebooked onto the noon flight. BUT because the connecting flight was only 1 hour and 40 minutes instead of two hours, they tell us they have to charge us for Dash services---at an EXTRA $1,100. The original cost to ship our pets was only $881---so because they made mistakes not once, but twice, they charged us more than TWICE what we should have to pay to ship our pets. The Delta Cargo staff in Atlanta is utterly and completely incompetent. They all need to either be fired or retrained and until that's done, I'd strongly advise you use any other service besides them. read more

DO NOT use Delta Cargo to send your furry friend anywhere! Delta Cargo is not reliable and fails to notify you of any changes to the itinerary. They will give you a difficult time at every step of the process. To begin, we paid EXTRA for DASH delivery because we did not want our dog sitting at an airport for hours. Upon booking, we verified that we were to arrive an hour before the flight even though the standard is two hours. We arrived at the airport two hours beforehand, nevertheless, just to be safe and were told at first by the representative that they would not load him since we were late (the flight was at 7:00am and we were at the counter at 5:08am, which is a whole other mess because nowhere was that departure information relayed*)... We weren't late as we paid extra for DASH and it took 30 minutes to sort out that we could still send our dog. So we thought our dog was on his way, only to find out later that our dog was going to arrive at the destination FIVE hours behind our original itinerary, again, without notification. After speaking to a representative, she said that our dog made it to Atlanta, the connecting location. However, our dog was NOT put on his connecting flight to Philadelphia. Of course, the shipper nor the receiver were ever notified of this until we called customer service. Our family, who were picking up the dog, drove TWO hours to the airport only to find out that he was not arriving as scheduled. We asked the representative if we could speak to a supervisor and we were told we had to fill out an online survey. First, we don't care to fill out an online survey (which probably will not be reviewed for another month) when our dog is still in-transit. Second, why couldn't we speak to a supervisor?The call center is in Atlanta, the corporate headquarters for Delta, and also where our dog should be at the moment--how was there no one to help us? In general, Delta Cargo and Delta Airlines are a terrible company to use. They will not help you through any problems. They acted like Cargo was some separate entity, but really they don't care any more about getting you to your end destination than its parent company. I was pretty much done with Delta Airlines, may as well add Delta Cargo to the list. Delta DASH is clearly a misnomer. We still don't have any idea where our dog is--we hope he is sitting somewhere safely in Atlanta. We paid more for a delivery that didn't happen and now just hoping he makes it there. This all the while dealing with unprofessional and incompetent behavior! Also, we tried to file a complain online as well and that would not go through! If there was a way to give negative stars, I would. Our animals, two cats and a dog, were scheduled to flight out on 3/17 with delta cargo out of Birmingham Alabama. I have a German Shepherd who was in a very large crate. When my husband went to check them in the Delta cargo attendant did not mention anything concerning the size of the crate. Once my husband was on the flight on the tarmac around 3 hours later, the pilot came over the intercom and announced that 3 pieces of luggage was removed from the plane and the owner would be given a call. My husband received the call as they were pulling out and texted me to try to handle it, since he would be unable to speak on the phone. I was already in Portland and at work so I had to take time from my new job training to sort out the issue. The number customer service gave my husband for the cargo station in Birmingham was incorrect and I couldn't get through. I called customer service myself and was told our dog's crate was too large for the plane, something that should have been mentioned at check in. They asked me to go pick up my animals, which I obviously could not do as both of us had left the state. I had to call my in laws to drive from Georgia to get them. We rebooked them on two different flights for Sunday, and I called the cargo facility to get refunded for the missed flight, so I could pay for the new and more expensive flights on Sunday 3/19. When I called I spoke with the supervisor, who was extremely rude. She told me she had refunded my card and hung up the phone. I logged onto my bank account to see, and I had actually been deducted the amount again from my account! Extremely upset, I called back to the Birmingham location. A gentleman answered and I asked to speak to the supervisor again. Instead of placing me on hold, he just set the phone down, so I could still hear everything happening in the room. I could hear the supervisor screaming and cursing me to her associates. By this point I was so annoyed and upset to imagine my pets sitting there at that location with this person and frustrated beyond belief. She flat out told me she had credited me, even though I had my account open showing the negative amount. I hung up and called customer service back, when I spoke with a Christine Sharp. This customer service rep was actually fabulous, and she was a huge help. Once we started dealing with her things went smoothly, and the shipment out on Sunday went fine. The money took a full week to go back into my account. My I laws had to keep my animals for two days and drive them to the Atlanta facility for their Sunday flight. They had to buy litter boxes and food for them. It was a terrible experience for my whole family, and I missed over 6 hours of work on Friday dealing with the different customer service associates and being placed on hold over and over. Got to airport (hou) 3 hours before the flight, good thing because it took an hour to check in two dogs. They never put them in the air condition, mind you it's houston, and charged double what they should have. When I called about the dogs in the elements the guy lied to the person at the call center and said they were inside. I took photos of where they left them...right with the boxes in the under cover cargo hold. Never again read more
