4 stars overrated? I think not. This place you have to understand you are paying for what you get and it's hard to complain when the food is actually decent and super cheap when it comes to sushi. I ordered the baby lobster which had tons of crawfish on it and a rainbow roll which was superb given the price. Most of my reviews you may notice tie in the huge factor of pricing whether your getting your money's worth or being ripped off. This place is right along fair and will definitely fill you up and taste good! I read some comments about the ignorant and rude staff. Let me clear this up by saying there's only 2 people that work there all the time and let alone they deliver for free and stay open until 2am for you the people! What other sushi place will do that?! Delsushi can be either a hit or a miss. I've ordered from here many times - all deliveries to my home. Sometimes, they get my food to me in 10 minutes. Other times, it takes an hour or so. Sometimes their food is delicious - I usually order some baked rolls (Baked Lobster Roll - delicious!!!) and sometimes it comes piping hot. Other times, it's cold as a rock. The biggest downside of this place is that you have to order $15 of food just to get delivery. But hey, delivery's free! So who can complain? TIP: Don't order "fresh" fish rolls. This place is very generous on the salmon and avocado portions in their roll and they can't be beat. This is by far the best salmon avocado roll in town. A lot of sushi places give you very little fish inside the roll and give you mostly rice. This place does not mess around. This rating is solely based on the business and service as I did not get to eat the food I ordered. I ordered a $50 dinner through DoorDash for pick up at around 11:45 PM. (This place is suppose to be open until 2am) It is not a school night, no exams, since it's a Friday night in the summer. I had trouble looking for the business because it's located at an upper level of the plaza and it looks more like part of an office building from the outside. Once we found the location we walked up stairs and discovered a man making sushi inside. We stood outside of the facility because there is no where to sit inside or outside. Technically you're not allowed inside anyways. Which is fine, like I said we were just there for pick up. As he was making orders he stared at us literally with a death stare. We mustered up to ask that we're here to pick up and he just yelled at us to order online. Um... ok.... so we just said yeah we're here to pick up. He literally just slammed the door in our faces. I want to point out that this is not your typical restaurant or pick up delivery place. It is very weird location and the way it's set up it's very confusing. With no sense of understanding how this is suppose to work for the first time, I get a door slammed in my face. The guy working was so rude. I totally understand and I can see you working hard making the sushi. He could've talked and told us how the system works and continued while doing it. Overall, I was very pleased with the quality of DelSushi's food. My wife & I ordered the Rainbow Roll, The Shrimp Crunch Roll, The Miso Soup & Edamame. for being in the La Jolla zip code, I could not get over the price of the food. Great quality for an even better price. The sushi rolls were great & the fish tasted fresh. I called my order in ahead of time & they were able to have my order ready within 10-15 minutes. However, it was a little difficult to fine the the place. When you pull in to the shopping center where Dominos is located, DelSushi is on top of the barber shop attached to the smaller building. There is a set of stairs on the right side of the barber shop. The reason for the 4 star & not a 5 star review; Both sushi rolls were great but I wish restaurants would take the shell of the tail off the shrimp. I have never been somewhere that has so it must be a presentation thing. The Miso Soup was tasty but just a little too basic for me. There was not tofu, green onion or seaweed. The edamame also had no salt added but it was not a big deal because everyone has salt at home. I thought it was weird that the wasabi & ginger were packaged like candy. I know it is much easier to use prepackaged ingredients. However, if you are looking for presentation I am sure that it is not much more expensive to have fresh wasabi & ginger. read more

I remembered this place as my favorite spot for late night sushi back when I lived in Irvine. My roommates and I would order their double salmon roll and baked rolls EVERY week, and we were always met with great customer service and food by the original owners who worked there at the time. I was so excited when I found their La Jolla location by chance as I had moved down here. And much to my surprise, the original owners were here and I was so excited to order my usual sushi that I had to write a review for this place. Double salmon sushi is so flavorful and has a very generous amount of salmon on there! The baked rolls are so creamy and savory, that its addicting. Don't knock on the door frame late at night when you arrive cause you'll get a look as if they want to kill you. Knocked on the door frame to get the attention of the worker while he sat at his computer and he turned around and gave me a death stare as if I was bothering him. I was just there to pick up an order. I guess I should've been a creep and just stand at the doorway silently while watching him on the computer. #notfriendly Also have to climb stairs to get to the entrance. Additional comment: He said I simply knocked and said hello. Afterwards I told him I had a pickup while disclosing the order information. I don't have the time to address any situation at the time. I have a delivery to make and people are expecting a rapid delivery. I don't have time to talk to the ownership about pickup practices. I'm so excited to have found a new sushi restaurant that's open late nights, even during quarantine for COVID-19 (until 11:00pm on Sunday!) They are located right by UCSD/La Jolla Village; which is great because they have good prices, and other sushi restaurants in this area tend to be very pricey. I found them on Yelp and called in an order for pick-up at around 10:30pm 01/24/2021. The woman who answered the phone was very polite and stated that she would text me in about 15 minutes when the order was ready. The food came out very fast, within 15 minutes as she had stated. Upon opening the take-out at home, everything looked amazing (just like the photos!) As other reviews had mentioned, the individual sushi pieces are very large/thick; I was surprised at how fast I became full. Because I hadn't anticipated such large rolls, we had plenty of leftovers (not mad about that at all). We ordered 5 rolls: 2 Baked Dynamite Rolls, 1 Baked Scallop Roll, 1 Normandie Roll, and 1 Jessica Roll. Our total was about $70.00, but I think this is a reasonable price for what we received (next time we will order 2-3 rolls for two people instead of 5 rolls). Each of the special rolls range from about $13-18 which, again, is reasonable due to the size of the individual sushi pieces within each roll. My favorite was the Normandie Roll--so good! Their salmon was so fresh and tender--like butter. The baked rolls are very rich and filling (next time we will just order one baked roll). I enjoyed the Jessica Roll as well. Back when I was a sophomore and used to live on campus, I used to order food alot (looking back I realize this)... So I used to love getting sushi here just for reason of delivery (sadly I didn't have a car to go elsewhere). Their sushi quality ranges from just edible (somewhat filling) to not so edible (with hard rice, outdated sushi). Well this one particular time I got food poisoning and it happened to be the night before my midterm. I was throwing up so much (I don't want to add too imagery). But so much so it was practically every 5 minutes. The next day I went to the doctor and had two bags of IV because I had become so dehydrated. I've never gotten an IV in my life. Some genius came up with the idea of delivering sushi late at night. It's insane! There is definitely a lack of late night grub in the ucsd area and this is definitely better tasting than most late night eats such as costco microwaveable burritos. The rolls are fairly large and are filling depending on what you get. I like to mix up a smaller and larger roll. I normally order the spicy tuna and the baby lobster roll. If you order two larger rolls it might be too much food, but if you like to eat a lot, go for it. My go to roll is the baby lobster roll. It is a California roll covered in a creamy dressing and topped with plenty of baby lobster tails and baked to perfection. At the time of delivery it is still hot. Their spicy tuna rolls are also pretty good. The rice is packed nicely, could be better, but the roll does sit for a bit while it gets delivered. I have also tried the rainbow roll, dynamite roll and baked scallop roll, along with a few others. The rolls are pretty good, again, it's not top notch sushi, but they do deliver at 1am. So far no complaints- fish they use is good, great service and even on busy nights, it never takes more than an hour to get your roll. As for the delivery time, it was around an hour when my boyfriend ordered it and around 30-40 minutes when my roommate ordered it. So the time ranges around there.
