Yet just like ending a relationship even one that ran it's course, I was displaced and unsure what to do next. I, along with a slew of other ladies turned friends from our old gym began trying out some other places. In total I went to 5 other gyms before trying Fit4Life Boxing Club. I found some common problems in the other places. Lack of classes, lack of cleanliness, lack of class times, lack of variety, they all equaled lack of interest, but this "dating" period was kind of fun, dare I say exciting to try out so many different places. I and my gym crew prefer a place with structured programs. I do have a basic membership to a box gym and though I know how to work out, I prefer someone tell me what to do. It keeps me accountable and makes me feel like I really got the most out of my hour. So enter the boxing club, I was really unsure about this place at first. Me and two gym friends came here during a free week they were offering at the end of the summer. I had done no contact kickboxing classes, but that did not really prepare me for what was in store. By the time the class was over I was drenched and exhausted, but I wasn't sold. I don't know why. It was an excellent workout, it was fun, and went fast! But I think I was a little scared of commitment. After being "married" to a gym I wanted to leave well before it was over, I had cold feet. Luckily they were offering some good intro rates off the free week and me and my posse signed up for the month. It didn't take a month. Within about a week we all knew this was where we wanted to be. As it turned out not just a couple of us but basically everyone that went to my old gym joined here. I also invited other friends and co-workers to try it out and they loved it and joined as well. So to anyone looking for a challenging workout that's fun, stop in! Well not now because COVID-19, but hopefully soon. They have classes 7 days a week. Super early mornings, 5am classes are awesome, to 7 pm classes and in between. They have great instructors who know you. Out of classes of 30-50 people they still know your name. They are very helpful and encouraging the whole class. Each class is different so you never have to work through the same workout. The first class is always free and there are many different options for memberships from punch cards to 12 month membership plans. Nothing really helps get the aggression out than going 15 rounds with a heavy bag! Lastly they have great programs for kids and offer classes specific to people with Parkinson disease called Rock Steady. Fit4Life is a great gym that also gives back to the community. I am very happy I found this place.

For a bit of background, I am a white belt with about 6 months of training (5 days a week) at my home gym. I had a great experience during both of the classes I attended. The no-gi class was very small, with only 2 other students and the instructor (it was Black Friday, so other students were probably busy buying new TVs and stuff). The small class was awesome for getting one-on-one instruction from the coach, Dave. It was a pretty standard class structure with warm ups, then drilling, and finally rolling. The warm up was light, and we moved immediately into drilling a north-south choke. I really liked the style of the drills because we slowly worked through the motion to properly get into the position, and then establishing the choke. We moved on to proper defense options for the same choke, and we had a chance to work among ourselves while the coach oversaw and provided feedback. During the gi class, we warmed up with some positional sparring from guard, and then moved on to a lapel choke and an arm in guillotine choke for drilling. The coach for this class, Patrick, provided a detailed walk through of each portion of the techniques, and was quick to give pointers during drilling. The class had a solid attendance of white through brown belts, and each person I worked with provided great live feedback as we trained. Everyone I encountered during my visits were very friendly, and put to rest any anxiety I had about training outside of my home gym. I thought the teachers did a fantastic job of explaining the proper techniques, the concepts behind them, and providing input as we drilled. Since this was my first real experience away from my home gym, I was nervous about rolling with unfamiliar people, but I quickly became comfortable with the other students because no one was trying to crank submissions, and everyone was very careful about safety. I am already planning to stop back here when I am in town again. If you are from the area, and you are looking for a way to get in shape, and/or learn real self-defense, then you should absolutely visit High Ground to see if it is a good fit for you! A big thank you to Tom for allowing me to visit his gym, and keep up with my training while away from home!

Omg where do I start?!…read more I've went there for 5 years (+/- 1) and ever since I went there every instructor has been very kind and helpful. Even more so, for one reason or another they let me in as a friend. Whether it was advice with yoga or personal things, I felt safe and sound. So much so I still feel comfortable calling the owner mama dom. That said I feel blessed and appreciate every minute she spent on as she has a full family of 5 (from when I stopped being a regular) and had so many things on her hands. Was in my best shape after a year or or two after going here and sweating my but off multiple times a week and learning about myself. It's been a while but I'd love to go back on the grind and shed off some weight I've built up over the 3 years I've been slacking. If any of you read this, I f'n love you and will never forget what not only the instructors but fellow yogis have done for me!

Immediately I felt welcomed and comfortable. There are students from all walks of life, ages and weights that practice here, and it's something I truly honor about her studios! I must tell you, I left this first practice with not only an addiction to yoga, but a renewal that would never leave me, even 7 years later. I hop from studio to studio since I have moved away from my parent's home, but I always find myself wishing for Dom's classes and style of teaching. She calls it "Vinyasa Flow" a combination of a heated studio (warmly comfortable!) and a flow practice of various poses. But what is wonderful, is that every teacher at Yoga Flow has a unique twist on certain things but sustains Dom's great practice. Dominique truly is a gem of a soul and it radiates through all of her teachers and onto their students. She slows life down for 70-90 minutes. She doesn't rush, she gives everyone attention and help they need in class. And by having a wonderful smelling studio, calming music and happy environment, Yoga Flow provides a retreat from the chaos of the world outside. If you are lucky enough to live near any of her studio's, do yourself a favor and take a class. You may just become a yogi for life. Namaste!
