Crossfit South Hills - CFSH includes an Olympic lifting class to work on technique

On a scale of cotton candy to Brussels sprouts, CrossFit South Hills is a slow-cooked beef brisket…read more This type of deliciousness requires time and investment, but the payoff in flavor is 100% worth it. My sister started doing CrossFit in North Carolina, and I had the chance to try it a few times there. And then, I began to see the strength she was gaining from attending 3x/week. I wanted in. I checked around for CrossFit gyms near me, and I creeped on CrossFit South Hills on Instagram for months before finally signing up for the On-Ramp intro session. The On-Ramp one-on-one coaching sessions work on technique and gym terminology and are so helpful. Originally, I signed up for 6 months. I've now been attending CFSH for over 3 years, and I love how strong I am. I also love that I can just show up, and there's a workout already prepared for me. The CFSH community is also great because everyone takes the time to cheer for one another. Coaches are also accommodating for injuries, offering modifications and other options if you can't do a movement. This helps to make sure that you can continue to grow stronger while healing. The gym might be hard to find at first since it's tucked away off the train tracks with a bunch of other warehouses. There's plenty of parking. Inside the gym, there are cubbyholes for your stuff and a child play area if you have kids. Pro Tip: Bring water and clothing you're okay getting a bit dirty

I moved out of Pittsburgh in July and was trying to find a CrossFit gym that was within a…read morereasonable distance to Monongahela. I found this gym that was in Finleyville. I thought it was great because it was only about a 15 minute drive from me. I wanted to start doing classes as soon as possible I was in contact with this gym in August and my contract started in September. I signed up for a six month contract which was 130 dollars for only three classes. The other CrossFit gym I attended was 130 for unlimited classes. So I already was on the fence about this gym with it being so much more expensive. I joined anyways since it was close to me. So I was only allowed 3 classes a week and if I signed up for the class and didn't go it counted as one of my classes but you had to cancel more than a hour before the class if you had to cancel or you were locked in. Which I understand that there are only so many spots in the classes but I rarely saw the classes filled. They didn't have many class times that I was personally able to make it to. My old gym had classes and open gym at noon which was nice for people who worked odd shifts like me. This gym didn't open at those time the last class is at 9am then the next class is at 430 pm or something along those lines. By the end of my contract I was under the impression that my classes ended in January since I did take classes in August so I did not attend any classes in February. They didn't charge me until September which was my own misunderstanding and I am not holding them accountable for it but I did not attend any classes thinking my contract was over which sucks on my end. They also charged me for March which they shouldn't of and I contacted the owner and she refunded me and I brought up that I didn't attend any classes in February not knowing I was still a member and it was basically a loss for me and a gain for them. Then the owner asked if I wanted to continue going to their gym. There was no customer service involved in the discussion between me and the owner I do not want to stay at a gym or with a business that is charging cards after their contracts are over. Also the other gym I went to had a military discount and a student discount this one does not. There is not many options for class times and there is no customer service involved in they way their business is run. They don't have enough equipment for the classes there were multiple times when my cousin and I would be scrambling to get a wall ball that was a certain weight since they only had two that weight. The classes themselves weren't as weightlifting focused as other CrossFit gyms I went to sometimes I felt like I didn't really get much of a workout in at their classes. I am giving this gym three stars because of all of the above I am not giving them three stars for me not going to classes in February (that was my fault) but I do feel as though it could of been handled in a different way and I may of continued going to classes at this gym for the simple fact it's close to me if there was any amounting decent customer service given to me when I contacted the owner.

I wanted to try n shed some of this baby weight & I wanted try sumthing new. Boy did a make a mistake! The bald headed instructor was a complete jerk to me. Making me feel ashamed about not being able to keep up with the class. Hey buddy. It was my first time working out on years. Anyways I don't recommend this place. Who wants to get yelled at by people who think they are better than you because they are fit? Who wants to feel ashamed about their bodies by instructors who are supposed to be there to help and motivate? Won't be me. Never again. Bye Felicia

They make every new member feel extremely comfortable and welcomed. They have a great focus on technique - they are constantly making sure that everyone is doing the moves correctly and will help you adjust if you're not. They're also extremely vocal with encouragement and just letting you know when you're killing it. Besides all of that, any class you take here will be a great workout and have you leave feeling incredible and energized. For anyone on the edge of trying a class here - take the chance and find your new favorite workout!

The staff is always great and the instructors are motivating, encouraging, helpful, and energetic! Mia Orlando normally instructs the classes that align with my schedule and she is amazing! I've also trained with Jamie and Ashley and they're both great! In the four months or so that I've been attending 3MF classes I've never run into any situation where classmates were jerks, standoffish, or anything else like that! Everyone is there for the same goal and will always help each other out!

I came here this past Monday for a 6am class, walked in about 10 minutes early, and there was a guy sitting behind their smoothie bar (the instructor for the class). Not only was he staring at his phone for the 10 minutes I waited for people to get to the class, he didn't ask me if I had been there before, didn't ask if I had any injuries he needed to know about, etc. Essentially, I think he was more concerned with sports stats or Instagram than anything else that morning. I would never come back to this location. You need to prepare your trainers to have better customer service/social manners than anything else. The workout was fine, it's the experience that made me not want to return.

The members and number of trainers have grown immensely from when I started but the customer service is still the same. Everyone from the owners to the trainers to the members are great.... I unfortunately had to leave the gym due to factors beyond my control but after I get resituated and back on a regular schedule I will be calling Gina to reinstate me at PKB. There is nothing wrong with traditional weight lifting. I just fell in a rut and did the same exercises at the same times during the week. PKP really mixes it up. I have been to 4 classes and exposed to 3 different instructors. The workouts are different and more circuit consistency. The participants are super helpful for newbs like me. The trainers are very conscientious to ensure you do not hurt yourself. They make sure your form is on point and urge you to use lighter weights. The classes are well organized (usually split into groups and the groups are doing different exercises). Overall - it is a high recommend. I am still not able to do everything the veterans do, but I am getting better each day. Tip - I learned from a veteran - wear sandles / flip flops and put your shoes on once you are inside. The entire floor is matted so they ask you not to have a different pair for inside so you do not track water, salt, dirt, etc... Overall: Atmosphere - Fun, Busy, the hour goes fast Cost - surprisingly very affordable. This would be ideal to augment a gym. Cheaper than a personal trainer and you get huge benefits Routines - very different - I don't think I have done the same thing once in the past 2 weeks of going.
