We went specifically to see the Flags of Valor. This was the first time we had seen them. We ended up going on the last day and there were a lot of people there. We finally found a place to park and walked back to the flags It was extremely moving and impressive. It was explained to me that the flags are there every five years. It's not always the same display - different groups from September 11 are featured so there are a different number of flags. There are dog tags and photos on the flag poles. There are notes people have written. This year there were 7,650 flags. They're all in perfect lines. The flags this year honored every life lost in the War on Terror - the victims, the first responders of 9/11, and those that who have since succumbed to related illnesses or PTSD. I'm so glad I heard about it and that we were able to go.

Our quiet afternoon in the park was ruined by some dude who parked his motorcycle near us and started watching cringey YouTube videos with the audio on his bike's speakers on full blast. Then proceeded to watch a movie with a lot of profanity and I might have heard some moaning? At least put in ear buds or something bro. We just packed our picnic up and went to a different section of the park. Not sure if there are park rules regarding issues like that or where to report them.

I have a lot of love for Lafayette Park. Actually, this might be my favorite park in St. Louis, and…read moreI will happily defend that opinion. It has the gorgeous lake, many winding walking paths, beautiful historic buildings, and, of course, the famous swan, Sofia. She's my favorite. Here's a fun fact: Lafayette Park is considered the oldest developed urban park west of the Mississippi. The land was originally part of the St. Louis Common, where people could graze livestock and gather firewood, before it became a public park. It even survived a devastating tornado in 1896. Today, you can stroll through the park, admire the historic iron fencing and statues, watch the water, or simply sit around pretending you don't have 37 things to do. The location is perfect. You're surrounded by the Lafayette Square neighborhood, with restaurants, and coffee shops. Make a day of it: coffee, a walk, lunch, a little shopping, another walk because you ate too much, and dinner somewhere nearby. There are plenty spot to explore.

A lot of the park has been restored- it's been around since the 1800s! You can see the old century architecture vibes in the gates and fences, it's really cool. I love the pond, bridge, and walking trails. The trees and scenery make it a great spot for photos. It's definitely worth checking out if you haven't been!

They have so many varieties of plants and different biomes to visit. The Climatron was my favorite spot, with waterfalls and so many tropical plants. The Japanese gardens were also beautiful and so serene. We went midday on a Monday so there were hardly any kids, making it even more peaceful and quiet. Parking is free and admission is $16 for non-residents, well worth it for how much you get to enjoy. The gift shop is a bit pricey but it goes towards preserving the gardens so it's also worth it. They have something for everyone there too! If you don't know the area, don't do what we did and try to park on Tower Grove and walk. It's a long walk around the edge of the gardens. We thought you could get in from the side but you can't, there's just the one main entrance off Shaw. With ample free parking there's no reason to try to get street parking anyway, so save yourself the trouble and just go to the right place the first time. I definitely want to come back another time of year if I can. I bet this place is stunning in the spring and beautiful when it snows. If you have the time, make sure you visit the Botanical Gardens because they truly are beautiful!

There were no designated driver options and in addition to paying full price, our driver had to buy his soda. (Both of these issues were unlike the recent Fest of Ale, which was a much better experience). The event was from 6-9, but the only food truck ran out of condiments before 8 pm. There was a spooky tram that we waited in line for 30 minutes only to be told, sorry we can only take 13 more people and you are numbers 14, 15, and 16. Seriously underwhelming experience.
