But we were kindly assisted when we asked for recommendations. We ordered a sashimi platter and sushi platter. Sushi was very fresh. This was the first time having sushi in Germany. The only drawback I have about this place is the portion size.

For those that are curious about why I loved this place, please read on and I hope my words can encourage you to try out their amazing Asian food. I've been to Noir countless times, and it's always been easy to have a table there. Most times, I went in without a reservation, and there were still plenty of seats to choose from. The atmosphere felt calming and touched upon Asian motifs that helped beautify the restaurant, including cherry blossoms and Japanese characters on the walls. Japanese food is my favorite kind of cuisine, and I did live in Japan for a year back in 2020, so I was always up to try the food served at Noir. Many I already recognized and favored highly, such as the gyoza, miso soup, and yakitori chicken. But, I still tried new things like the crunchy sake sushi roll and osaka balls. I'd have to say my favorite dish was the crispy chicken/duck curry bowl. It was rich in flavor with a bed of white rice, vegetables, and coconut curry. It's hard to compete with such a dish. The curry bowl was large enough for me, but be mindful that most of the food on the menu are served in very small portions. You may get three pieces of shrimp tempura at most and a small bowl of soup. Sushi can vary, so I wouldn't be concerned about that, but this is the best place to go to when you want to share your food with friends- similar to tapas. My only gripe would be the drink sizes, as they seem way too small for one person to have. It could be a marketing strategy to get you to order more drinks, but I refused to do that and would have a bottle of water in my purse to get me through the rest of dinner. The service was good, with several English-speaking waiters. You wouldn't feel out of place if you came here with no German speaking abilities, if anything, you'd curse your stomach for not being large enough to consume more delicious food! Noir is a restaurant that I will miss dearly. Their items were well-made, service was nice, location is great if you want to leave afterwards for some dessert (there's many dessert places with cake & ice cream nearby), but most of all, it was an inviting space that allowed me to share beautiful moments with my friends. I taught them how to use chopsticks, some Japanese lingo like what they say before they eat (Itatakimasu!), and my personal favorite memory: I got a very picky eater who was strictly against eating Asian food to LOVE sushi. If you want to create special memories in Germany within a cool establishment with tons of yummy dishes to share, then Noir is the place for you.

Oh yeah! This tiny…read moreplace is a short walk from a major indoor food market, and it's absolutely worth a try. We wandered in just looking for some simple ramen, and left with full bellies and eyebrows arched out of surprise. I had a simple chicken and rice bowl, and my friend had the vegetarian ramen. We were both skeptical about a vegetarian ramen, but WOW! I had to steal a few spoonfuls of the broth to pour over my rice, and it was a great decision. This was my first time having a chicken bowl and I never suspected such a small dish could have such a mighty impact on my palate. It's a simple chicken and rice bowl, with fantastically simple yet elevated flavors (great texture on the chicken). Absolutely put this place on your list the next time you're in the Altstadat area.

Noodles were done perfectly and I had a marinated egg that was cooked to perfection. There was a line of people outside waiting when I was done. Really glad I came since I had a taste for Tonkotsu since Ichiran in NYC.

The rice was just right with consistency, temperature, and mixture of vinegar. I enjoyed every bite of it. Upon ordering, you will get a free mini appetizer like in japanese style pubs. The atmosphere is also unique and very calm, resembling a train dining area. There is something enjoyable eating in a train like environment while real trains pass by. A very tidy, cute and clean place. That being said, however I do not recommend this place for those who are just discovering sushi. The price is on expensive side, you will definitely not enjoy your time here if you do not understand the subtle differences in quality you get for this price. The appetizer was a bit of a disappointment. We had a plate of edamame, but no extra plate to contain the remains, and the edamame was overcooked and soggy. (Edit: Returned couple times and the edamame was better and with extra plate to dispose the remains) We ordered: 2 kirin beer, 2 mid class sushi plates, and a plate of edamame and the total was about 70 euros Definitely will return for a bigger bite, but probably not any time soon as for the amount we paid, it is not a casual price to regularly dine here. Would have given 5 stars if I had not known other places that are more competitive in quality vs price.

The tempura was really crispy, and I especially liked the dipping sauce with it. The California rolls were pretty good too -- I liked them quite a bit. The portions felt just right overall, enough to be satisfying without being too much. The pork was good, especially with the BBQ dip. That sauce was exactly right with it. The sashimi was okay, honestly, but hey, we're in Germany and not exactly close to the ocean, so I can live with that. The miso soup had big pieces of seaweed, which I liked, and even the salad was nice and fresh. Obviously it's not the most traditional part of the meal, but it had a really nice taste.
