Review Highlights - Deli Boutique

Seems to be a conversion of a regular suburban house, complete with long narrow garden, to become a small restaurant, delicatessen and café.

We were able to grab a reservation for an early dinner the same day. They had the front door/windows open so it feels as if you're dining al fresco, but still inside the restaurant. I was hungry and ordered the steak and fries. The steak came with a pat of herb butter. You can only choose med-rare or well-done. So of course, it was med-rare for me. It was delicious with fantastic flavor, enhanced with the melting herb butter. The fries were crisp and delicious. I don't know what type of sauce came with my steak on the side, but I ended up dipping my fries in them, and it made it a different experience. Thankfully I had room for dessert, so my wife and I split the Birthday Dessert Box. No it wasn't anyone's birthday, but the menu describes this as a golden chocolate orb with vanilla ice cream, honeycomb, chocolate strands, freeze-dried raspberries, gold flakes (didn't notice these), and the server pours hot salted caramel sauce on top when it arrives. This was divine! What a great way to end a fantastic dinner.

We were then seated for a table of two, our server was friendly and attentive and informative on the menu items. We took advantage of their special, which was a plates for about $20-$30. I believe depending on which entrée you get I believe the steak was an upgrade price. Appetizers I have the curry chicken skewers, which were flavorful and delicious and for entrée I had the truffle Parmesan spaghetti with mushrooms, which were delicious!

After walking around the Kensington area looking for a restaurant that didn't need reservations for…read moreon a Saturday night, we stumbled across Cote and they took us right in. It had a pleasant ambience to it, like a little mid scale camparison of Woodranch, as the waiters still served you wearing aprons. The food selection was good, they had a variety from pastas, salads, and meats. My husband and I ordered the 10oz Ribeye, usually served with Frites, but we asked if we can change it out to creamy mashed potatos. My daughter had the sirloin steak with frites, and my son had a cheeseburger with frites. The food was delicious, and the service was great. Our server was a gentleman named Daniel, who I understand worked at a different location, and was just there to fill-in that night. His mannerisms was sweet and service was amazing. When he found out we were from the US, he got excited and showed us some memorabilia from his visit to the US that he considered good luck. The desserts were also delicious. The pistaschio creme brûlée and chocolate cake was a delight.

I had pan fried salmon and the whole dish was perfect - loved the crispy skin on the salmon and the new potatoes fried off in butter and tarragon. My server, Tom, was very efficient and friendly. This is not the first time I have been to Cotes and it certainly won't be the last.

Very disappointing experience at Fait Maison. We were a group of 9 people and unfortunately both…read morethe food quality and service fell below expectations. The main courses arrived around 5 minutes after the starters were served. We asked the staff to wait until we finished the starters, so they took the mains back. When they returned the dishes later, the food was cold. We then requested fresh meals, but the food came back again within less than 10 minutes, which honestly made it seem reheated rather than freshly prepared. Dishes like okra and biryani normally require proper preparation time. The biryani itself was especially disappointing -- mostly rice with only a few small cubes of chicken. Later in the evening we were told that last orders were at 9:30pm. When we asked for drinks, we were told only tea and karak were available, then shortly afterwards informed that even karak could not be served because the person handling the machine had already left. That honestly felt unprofessional and poorly managed. We were also repeatedly reminded about a 2-hour table policy, despite being a large group and despite the restaurant being nearly empty at the time. To be fair, one waiter genuinely tried his best to help and the service charge was removed, which we appreciated. However, overall the experience did not reflect the standard or reputation the restaurant promotes.

This French place embodies the best sense of the French phrase "c'est correct," which means so much…read moremore than the literal meaning of doing things right. To an American, you would ask, why do things correctly? But it is perhaps the highest compliment, and I learned to appreciate that when I lived in Paris. English people know the value of doing things properly. French staff and clients? Beveled mirrors and touches of engraved glass? Short, non-flowery menu descriptions? Check check check. I think in a number of years when the floor gets more scuffed, and they cram the tables together more, it will feel downright parisien. I just had to get the duck confit, as I always do, and it was very good. You could see the rebellion showing through, however, as it was served on a bed of beans and sauce of pureed green herbs. To finish, the froid-chaud, or as we Americans call it, a hot-fudge sundae. All in all, a thoroughly satisfying meal. Gluten-free notes: Many French dishes are naturally gluten free! The whole thing of "all French sauces are full of flour" is utter rubbish, as I learned while living in Paris for several years. They were able to confirm which dishes were gluten free.

The service was incredible and it's evident that the wait staff here are at the top of their game and enjoying what they do. You'd think they had been open for years rather than just a few months. Clientele seemed to be mostly French, or at least they were able to speak French very well. This I have to say only added to the atmosphere, which is definitely formal enough to be a special occasion place but by no means stiff. We ordered a half bottle of the Gewürztraminer which was the second cheapest on the list, but the quality was very impressive. If that's anything to go by I suspect the rest of the wine list is very good indeed. We ate from the set lunch menu which is extremely reasonably priced and the standard of the food was enough to have us planning a visit in the near future for the full A la Carte experience. Can't wait! Great Service, Great Food, Great Wine. Go here as soon as you can before the secret gets out!
