Locally owned restaurant that serves up a mish-mash of Asian cuisine, in the heart of the tourist areas of Nice.
I wanted something to bring back to hotel room, for the two of us, after my stroll to the sea to see the sunset. Deli Bao appeared in my searches, and it was on the way back, so decided to give it a try (since it didn't close until after dinner time).
I inadvertently passed it the first time, not recognizing that there was a restaurant hiding behind a small patio. The hostess became the cashier as soon as I communicated that I wanted a to-go order. She suggested a couple of things that would be good for carry-out and I went with that. I paid by credit card and waited about 10 minutes. We unpackaged everything in our hotel room, and dug in as our dinner.
- chicken pho (15€) - It is a Vietnamese restaurant, and chicken was the pho available. The broth was packaged separately, and was carefully wrapped in saran wrap to keep from leaking. The broth was ok. It came with wide rice noodles...as a carry out order with the broth not being so piping hot, thin noodles would have been a better choice for us. The amount was reasonable, with a few slices of dark meat chicken with skin.
- Raviolis frits (7€) - basically four wonton wrappers, wrapping a little drop of a shrimp mixture. Not worth it.
- Porc classique bao (7,5€) - the pillowy bread was really good, with a decent amount of seasoned pork filling. The best thing I ate out of the three (though a bit steep price wise)
At the end of the day, nothing really stood out for a meal that was 30€+, and I was still pretty hungry afterwards. read more
