Outstanding chicken. Would put all the other fast food chains to shame…read more The medium to hot is outstanding, but I don't have the nerve to try the Reaper.

Hamilton, New Jersey has been waiting for salvation, or at least for something new to eat. For…read moreweeks, cars have lined up in the shoulder of Route 33 like pilgrims on a fried chicken crusade, all of them seeking enlightenment in a red and yellow shrine called Dave's Hot Chicken. Naturally, I had to see what the fuss was about. I ordered takeout because the cars stretched past the entrance way like a metal conga line led by hunger and curiosity . The object of my investigation was Dave's Sliders with fries. The sliders arrived on little potato buns, as if each were the pride of a humble Idaho farmer, topped with kale slaw, pickles, and Dave's sauce. And reader, they were beautiful. Everything worked in harmony. The crisp of the chicken, the brightness of the slaw, the subtle rebellion of the pickles. I chose the "medium" spice level, which turned out to be about as dangerous as a well-mannered librarian. Next time I will go "hot," maybe even "reaper," because if I am going to suffer, I would rather it be for art or poultry. Now, as for the mac and cheese: tragedy, pure and simple. It tasted as though it had been boiled in a space-age pouch, the kind of food that might be served in the afterlife if the afterlife were a public-school cafeteria. It was mac and cheese that had given up on its dreams. Still, the name of the place is Dave's Hot Chicken, not Dave's Existentially Redeemed Macaroni. The chicken was excellent, and that is what matters. So I will give Dave's four stars out of five, because perfection is a myth, and because next time I intend to burn just a little brighter.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Dave's Hot Chicken. We'd never…read morebeen to one before and wanted to check it out. It's a little farther from home than we'd normally drive, but the weather wasn't great and we needed an excuse to get out of the house. For a fast casual place this is a really good option. My review and comparison are within that category. We split the 2-slider combo and were glad we did--it was filling and really good. I went with Extra Hot, which is the second hottest level. (The Reaper is the hottest and that's definitely on the list for next time.) The fries were solid, and I noticed after ordering that you can get a side of cheese--good thing to know for next visit. They reminded me a lot of Chickie & Pete's crab fries style-wise. Food seemed freshly made to order, and we waited maybe 10 minutes for the food. Overall, I really enjoyed it. Even though it's not super close, I'd absolutely stop in again when I'm in the area.

The…read morefood was decent not great but decent and based on just the food I probably would have given them three stars but based on the customer service experience I had it dropped it down to two stars. Let me explain. I walked in and stood back for a minute to look at the menu and the girl at the register was unwrapping coins into the register so no rush. I decided what I wanted and stepped up to the register and she didn't acknowledge me at all. No hi I'll be right with you just nothing. She just kept unwrapping coins and taking her sweet time. When she finished she still didn't acknowledge me and walked away to throw the coin wrappers away and then went straight to the pass through window to bag to go orders now just clearly ignoring me. She finally turned around and asked if I was paying with cash or card and I said I was paying with a card and she just pointed and said order through the kiosk. Now I HATE ordering and paying through kiosks, I am a a customer and paying full price I want to be treated like a customer. And honestly I was the only one there and she was standing in front of an order screen and register so I don't know why she couldn't just take my order. So anyway I go place my order and go to pay and the Kiosk asked me for a tip like really you want me to tip a freaking kiosk. So like I said the food was decent but there was nothing friendly or welcoming about the customer service and based on that I will not be returning.

I thought the chicken was really, really good - perfectly crispy with good spice embedded into it, and the chicken itself was really juicy. The honey they offer on the side is a good add-on, though I could probably do without the bread. It's pretty clean inside, and it's a quick-service setting - order at the counter, get a buzzer, go get it when it buzzes. It's usually been fairly busy the times I've been (I went back a few times with a gift card!), and I've enjoyed eating there each time.

I decided to pull in and give it a try and I'm glad I did. The place is pretty big inside and there is a lot of seating. There were three high School or maybe college kids in front of me who ordered relatively quickly and then I was up. Unsure what to get. I asked the guy who was taking the orders and he made some recommendations. I had went with the hot level chicken and it was slightly too spicy for my tastes. Not the fault of the restaurant and I feel like spice levels vary so much from place to place, but I normally like spicy food and I didn't find it. Unenjoyable but next time I would get the medium. The food came out pretty quick and originally apprehensive getting just too tenders. I thought they were a decent size. I ended up finishing most of the meal and had a handful of fries left over. So it is a decent amount of food. One of the additional things I didn't think I would be impressed with, but was is it the rice machine as the little Pebble ice which I think is always a nice touch. All in all a pretty nice chicken place and I would definitely come here again if I needed a meal and I was close by.
