The Philadelphia return of fan favorite #2 Heather Mitts (free agent), as well as the important acquisitions of #8 Amy Rodriguez (via trade), and #26 Frida Magnusdottir of Iceland, have bolstered the Independence roster in their inaugural season. Rodriguez is making a legitimate run at league leader in goals and MVP, as well. In 2010, Philly Independence has been the only team in WPS to come back from a two-goal deficit. They repeated this unlikely comeback feat twice at home, against Washington Freedom and against Atlanta Beat. The Independence perform with tenacity that surprises and enthralls all fans. The WPS Philly Independence has merchandise raffles and giveaways, and player meet'n'greets at most games. WPS is always an enjoyable experience, and Philly is right at the forefront of the heraldry.

For some reason I had assumed that a storied program like Villanova, with three national championships, would have a much larger home court. But, once that surprise wore off, I was really impressed with the basketball environment. Our 3rd row seats gave us access to a supposedly exclusive club at halftime, so I was expecting some quality eats--unfortunately, the chicken po boy that came highly recommended was probably the worst arena food I've ever had. Nonetheless, I didn't go for food, I went for the game, and the high energy collegiate basketball atmosphere of this place would surely be tough to beat anywhere. If you have a chance to see a game here, make sure to take it!

There are two types of Dans in this world-- those who rise above and those who squander, and it's unfortunate to hear that Villanova let this kind of beta-Dan into such a fine establishment. As I first walked into the Pav, I immediately felt the love and warmth that has traditionally bonded the Villanova community together for centuries. The Pavilion, which needed a big upgrade, looked like a totally different animal once inside. At 6 5" and 240 lbs I found that I had ample legroom. Once comfortably seated in our section, my beautiful wife, 3 beautiful children and myself were lucky enough to catch a thrilling contest between Nova and Temple. Wow. What a showdown. My 3 little ones were on the edge of their seats, and my wife and I formed yet another glorious memory together. All-in-all, we stayed the whole game because, as true Wildcats, we finish what we start. PS - I am in full support of the serving of alcohol for those of age. College is a wonderful learning experience, and there is no better place to learn responsible drinking habits than under the direct supervision of the greatest University in The United States of America. The NFL Draft came and went from Philadelphia. While I could get into the month long impact to…read moresome major commuter highways, I think its necessary to look pass those and focus on the event itself. $12 beers (Bud light!) drops you a star no matter who you are, however, beyond that, I found very little to complain about. Even with tight security and metal detector screening to get in, entry into the draft was a smooth process. Once in, every activity had a line, but there was plenty to see and do without having to spend a dime. Download the app and register and you were automatically on the list for stand by tickets. Do a few of the activities and you found yourself in a raffle for cool prizes. Kid friendly - while not my focus the answer was a clear yes. Adult fun - again very entertaining. A positive spotlight on the city of Philadelphia and what we have to offer - absolutely.

Wow, Philly just held the NFL Draft. Philly was a great host, but even better, the Eagles drafted…read moremagnificently. Before I get started, I didn't actually attend the draft so I will mostly review how the Eagles drafted. The draft itself was amazing. People from all over the area came. Center City, North Philly, South Philly, West Philly and The Main Line and other suburbs. Even better people from all over the country came to root on their teams. Philly had all sorts of events at this draft including a zip line, an area to try on football gear, a field goal kicking and challenge and more! NFL Legends were also in attendance including Joe Glecko, Jim Taylor, Morten Anderson, Brian Dawkins, Drew Pearson (Boo) and Brian Westbrook. They also used the Franklin Institute as a draft center. The Eagles drafted amazing! First, they started off with Derek Barnett. A low-risk, high-reward player. At Tennessee, he was a sack machine! He even broke Reggie White's sack record. Compared to Myles Garret, Barnett has the better stat line. In the second round they acquired Sidney Jones. If he had not torn his Achilles he would be a first-round pick. He is expected to be back by October. I doubt he will re-injure his his Achillies as the surgeries now are pretty good. Also he never had a major injury in the past. Would not be surprised if he becomes a lockdown corner. Rasul Douglas was picked up in the third round. He would be a second-rounder if the cornerback class was not so stacked. The West Virginia system benefited him so it is hard to evaluate him. In the third and fourth rounds they got two receivers with Mike Wallace speed. They have potential. Would not be surprised if Matthews and/or Agholor are gone come next season. I like Nathan Gerry pickup. He was a Kurt Coleman style safety at Nebraska. I like how they are converting him to a Linebacker. He will be a possible Mychael Kendricks replacement. Finally, they got Elijah Qualls. He reminds me of a smaller Danny Shelton. These programs are provided for Asian teens and youth, who are rarely served by the Philadelphia City, high school, or other recreational programs. Without the Philadelphia Suns, the young people served by this organization would have no organized recreational opportunities or outlet to discover their cultural heritage! I applaud the efforts of the Philadelphia Suns!

New Castle Court House Museum is a must see if you're spending a day exploring colonial New Castle…read more It was built in 1732 and served as Delaware's first court and state capitol. It was on the second floor of the court house building that Delaware declared independence from Pennsylvania and England (did you know that Delaware was a part of Pennsylvania and that it had to declare its independence from them? I didn't). New Castle Court House Museum is operated by the National Park Service. They have tours at set times (you can check their website or ask around town and they'll let you know the schedule). We waited on the steps of the courthouse for the 1pm tour last Saturday, and our tour guide was amazing. She talked so fast during our tour that I learned two hours of information about Delaware, New Castle, and the court house during the hour and twenty minutes the tour lasted! It is definitely one of the most interesting and important sites in New Castle - not to be missed if it's your first time visiting.

We toured the Read House and Gardens yesterday during a day trip to Delaware and really enjoyed our…read morevisit. The house was built in 1804 for George Read, Jr., the son of a signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. When it was built, it was the largest and most sophisticated house in New Castle. George Read, Jr., was really showing off, and that becomes obvious when you explore the house. The house had only three owners before becoming a museum open to the public, and the tour guide talked us through the changes that were made to the house by each of the families as well as the restoration that occurred when the house became a museum. I often tour historical homes when I travel, and they can start to blend together. But Read House felt special. It's very beautiful (that 100-year-old hand-painted wallpaper really blew me away, and the house had such great light and color!) and a great example of Federal architecture. It's also had interesting owners. Our tour guide was wonderful - friendly, knowledgeable, and answered all my questions. It was a very good tour and a great introduction to New Castle's historic district. I definitely recommend taking a tour if you're visiting New Castle!

The docents do a fabulous job of explaining what it was like to live there in Colonial times as well as the history of the owners in the early part of the 20th century. VERY enjoyable!
