They even called back a week later just to check in and see how he was doing! The clinic was extremely clean. I was worried that my kitten would get stressed out before coming because my old vet had dog hair everywhere, but DLVC is so clean you can't even tell animals have been there! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I was concerned my kitten had a UTI and they were very helpful and kind in telling me options I had. They even recommended me a product to get rid of the urine smell out of the blankets he peed on (Which worked very well)! Dr. Kevin Hartwig truly is the most knowledgeable vet we've ever had! His expertise is second to none. Twice now Dr. Hartwig has saved our dog's life, when other vet's either misdiagnosed or completely missed the picture to begin with on what's going on. Throughout the 2+ years that our dog was under Dr. Hartwig's care (until we moved away) we probably made between 30-50 visits because our dog has two rare diseases and both require frequent visits to monitor her health and proper dosage of medication. Each time he was accommodating, intently listened to us and our concerns, and really just had the best interest of our dog. He never doubted/questioned us when we felt something was 'off' and for our dog's diseases that's a pretty big deal. A week ago we were told by different vets (again not here because we moved) that we needed to prepare ourselves for palliative care for our dog. There was talk that we needed to put her down and that we could have days-weeks left with her. We were told this by 3 vets. None of these other vets listened to what we were saying they just kept referring back to 2 markers on her blood work. I was beside myself and at a complete loss. In a matter of a few days I gathered everything for Dr. Hartwig to look over and sat down with him recapping everything that had happened in short time span. He immediately looked at the information and knew exactly what was going on when. Our family is forever indebted to Dr. Hartwig and no amount of review can do this justification. In our dog's life we've been to around 12+ different vets and seen 20-25 doctors and really you're not going to get any better care than with Dr. Hartwig. I highly recommend. read more

My family has a 13 year old cocker spaniel, Bailey, who had been in fantastic health, but our groomer brought a rapidly growing tumor to our attention. We called Delavan Lakes Vet Clinic as they had seen her in the past and was able to get an appointment right away. The appointment went well, complete with XRays and tests. While the results were not what we had hoped, Dr. Lee and the techs (assistants) were fantastic. Treatment options, ideas, and suggestions. We were able to schedule a surgery right away. The surgery was far more extensive that we had planned and Bailey ended up spending two days there. Yet, when we took her home, she snuggled and kissed the team there as goodbye. There was no doubt that they looked after her like they would their own pet. It's been five months since the surgery and our 13 year-old "puppy" is springing around the yard and playing like a dog half her age. The follow up care and the check-ins from the vets and staff there have been beyond professional in expressing interest and genuine concern for our family's companion. Are there less expensive options? Yes. However, the care and compassion the team showed was far more important than the few (really just a few) dollars difference. Its an OK place. The first time we went here had our animals checked out they were nice but walked out 30 min later with $170.00 bill. We set up a recheck and was told it would be $49.00 so we went they started to do all this stuff to our ferret next thing we knew we had a $300.00 bill so I paid $150.00 and said I would pay the rest. As that is all we could do. Starting the next day they started processing payments for different amounts and now saying we have $500.00 bill on top of what we paid for blood work etc.. That we didn't order. Do not go here the will rip you off anyway that they can. They also told us we should have $2000.00 set aside per animal just in case of an emergency. There Is No Place Like Home "Dr. Christine and Dr. Kevin have appointments now, but they will call you back as soon as they are done", and they do! Our pets have been patients of DLVC for 7 years. We met Dr. Christine when our then 11 yr. old and very much loved Lab, Mack was very ill. 2 other vets had told me he had "Old Dog Syndrome" and that was an 18-month search to find what was causing his lethargy. Dr. Christine performed a simple diagnostic evaluation and found a tumor centimeter from his heart. She did Mack's surgery and he went on to live happily until he was nearly 15 years old! Time passed, and we and the pets began to travel in winters. We situated them with what we thought was a very good local vet. After a year of asking him why our pets were continuing to lose weight we were told something like "old cat syndrome". When we got back home to DLVC with all the records from the previous vet, Dr. Kevin took one look at them walking across the exam room floor and practically diagnosed them on sight. They performed the necessary diagnostic test to confirm his suspicion. Not only was his suspicion correct, but also he carefully designed a course of treatment that we follow to the letter. Fog is now 2.2 pounds heavier and little Stinky has gained 1.9! And if we suspect anything might not be going well I am able to send them an email to check and see what Dr. Kevin or Christine thinks! They respond. They are totally responsive! Now our rescue Lab Buddy is ill. Not in any discomfort but we've noticed some changes that may be a concern. We do have a new vet, where we vacation in the winter, and he is very well trained, kind, and all the things one would want their vet to be. He has suggested gobs of tests that may, or may not lead to a diagnosis. "It could be nothing," we are told. That's OK doc' I think we'll likely wait until we get back to Dr. Chris and Dr. Kevin. My wife and I switched to Delavan Lakes Vet after using a vet in Elkhorn because of their poor service and prices. Unfortunately, Delavan Lakes Vet is no different. We have 6 cats and 1 new puppy and I have completely had it with this place! Here's 3 reasons why: 1. Customer Service is lacking. The Vet Techs are not very friendly and always make nasty little comments to us. (Although the receptionist seems nice). We care for our pets like they are our children and feed them well, play with them, and provide a good home for them. This place, especially the Vet Techs, will blast us for not taking the fur kids into the vet on a regular basis. Well, they don't go on a regular basis and still 1 cat lived until she was 19, and we have cats ranging from 5-14 years of age. I think they are cared for well. 2. Price. I never can leave that place without spending less than $100. They nickle and dime you for everything (e.g., tests, perscriptions, etc). They are not cheap whatsoever for anything. Be careful if you do take them there. They are always trying to upsell you on something. 3. Boarding. Their boarding sucks! Do not be fooled by the pictures on their website. When we took our Matsiff mix female puppy, who is 35 almost 40 pounds, and asked to see where she would be staying, the Vet Techs got very nervous. When we saw the facilities, we found that they wanted to shove her in a crate where she could stand up or do anything. We asked her to be moved to a "run" where dogs over 60 pounds + usually stay. Thankfully we insisted on moving our pup otherwise she would have very unhappy. However, it does not end there. When my wife went to pick up the pup, we found that the bed she sleeps on was soaked with pee. They had neglected to tell us this fact and just gave us the bed. My wife didn't realize the bed was soaked with pee until she was wondering why the pup was laying on the floor of the car and not her bed in the backseat. In hindsight, we concluded that we didn't realize the bed was pee on because the Vet Tech took it to the car and put it in. Moreover, the vet called and said that they forgot to include her toys and forgot to return them as well which makes us think that she never had them to sleep / play with. To say the least, we will be in search of another Vet. Never use these place because they suck! read more

My partner and I have a half lab mix dog named Chevy that sheds constantly, and it's really a problem for me, as I have allergies. I vacuumed three times a week and the hair was still everywhere! I saw that Delavan Lakes Veterinary Clinic offers a grooming service called FURminating that claims to reduce shedding. So I took Chevy for an appointment on May 29th. First of all, the people there were so friendly, the vet tech that is a trained FURMinator applicator made Chevy feel very welcome and I stayed to watch the entire treatment. They use a special tool that literally covered the floor with his undercoat hair. Once she got all of the hair she could with the tool, Chevy got a special bath and rinse with FURminator products that not only got rid of more hair, but retards the growth of the undercoat for up to 6 weeks. It was so amazing that I actually took pictures to show my husband! The process was very fast, and Chevy enjoyed the warm hair dryer at the end so much he almost fell asleep against the vet tech. He also loved the treats he got for being such a good boy during his "beauty" treatment. It's been almost a month and I can say that the shedding has been reduced by over 50%. It has made our lives a lot easier, and now we can pet the dog without watching the hair fly all over the room and argue about who gets to vaccuum! Thank you for refunding me the money for the exam... But to make it very clear and for you to not mislead others...I did not make an appointment for an exam... EVER! Also there was never an exam of my bird done in front of me. When my bird was taken to the back it took as long as the first time when you had trimmed her beak. If you're going to charge people for exams first you should do them in front of the customer and you should let them know you're doing it before you do them. This way they can opt out if they choose. I still feel scammed by the up charge and how your office staff handled my billing questions at the end of the beak trim. I'm going to another vet if it is needed again. read more

We took both our dogs to this vet for some time. However, we left after they took extra x-rays during a routine neuter of our puppy and then charged us, without ever asking if that was acceptable. This was NOT a life threatening issue. They were aware we had saved up a budget for the surgery (laser, some x-rays of his hips, etc) and that they were not to do anything extra unless it was life-threatening. They took extra x-rays and did not inform us of the changes needed based on his size for medication costs. What should have been a $350 procedure was billed at $500. They then wanted us to pay the extra charges. We paid all but the extra x-ray costs. They tried to hold our records to get us to pay; our new vet informed us this is not legal in WI. This same vet refused to accept that our Weimaraner had a recessed vulva. We wanted to wait to spay until she was through her first heat to avoid future UTIs caused by the recessed vulva. The vet insisted we spay earlier so we did so. Later, another vet at the practice coded her as having a recessed vulva, so from now on NO UTI will be covered by our pet insurance. Long and short, they were not particularly professional when it came to things like billing and veterinary advice. The techs are lovely and were 80% of the time friendly and pleasant. We also had a tech accuse our dog of biting her; investigation into this showed that to be untrue. We wouldn't recommend them. Prices are middling. Service is fair to poor. Just not trustworthy. Facility is beautiful, but that doesn't make up for the other issues. read more

I have been brining my pets, all dogs, to Delavan Lakes since the late 90's, when it was still Geiger Veterinary Hospital. In that time, I have had three dogs, and my immediate family has cared for four others through Delavan Lakes. I have never once been disappointed, and I am stunned that someone would say differently. I do not exagerate when I say that Dr. Hartwig, Dr. Jens, and the ENTIRE staff of Delavan Lakes has saved the lives of my "pet children", and those of my family's pets, numerous times. So to steal a format from a previous response... Customer Service - Second to none! I have moved several times in the past 15 years, tried different Vets in WI and IL, and have always returned because of the high quality of care, compassionate staff, knowledgeable and highly skilled Veterinarians and a continued sense of knowing that each and every member cared about my pet and my family's connection to them. Price - When was the last time anyone went to the Doctor or Vet? Guess what? All medical care is expensive! Pets are family to me, and I treat them as I do my children, and they deserve only the best. I travel 60 miles one way from IL to take my dog to Delavan Lakes because I KNOW they get the best care. Regular care costs $$$, but waiting until something happens to get Veterinary care is like waiting exercise and eat right AFTER a heart attack. It's still a good idea, but MAYBE it could have been prevented!!! Can you put a price tag on making sure a loved one, furry or otherwise, is healthy? Boarding - If you want to put your poodle in a spa, don't put it in kennel! I hate to sound antagonistic, but if someone could not tell a dog bed was urine soaked until their dog would not sleep on it, how is a kennel attendent supposed to know??? I have boarded my dogs there countless times. My 12 year Black Lab, who has had numerous medical issues, gets excited when we go there. Every time I go in, she is in the office with Jill, Barb, Cassie and the rest of the staff. But brining a puppy there is different, which I have done before. She stayed in the cage because, well, because SHE WAS A PUPPY!!!! Come on, tell me another one.... You know what they say about opinions, they are like [stink] holes, everyone has one and they all stink." So instead of taking my word for it, or that of someone else, go by Delavan Lakes Veterinary, meet the staff, talk with any of the Doctors, and decide for yourself. Your pets deserve that much. Emma was so kind and helpful and scheduled us a same day appointment with Dr. Berry. From the minute we walked in, we were thoroughly impressed by the professionalism of the entire team and the environment and cleanliness of the facility. We would highly recommend the Delavan Lakes Veterinary clinic. They have been taking care of our kitties for 20 years. The kitties have always received excellent care. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The receptionists are always helpful and patient regardless of how busy they are. The vet techs are kind, caring and professional. The veterinarians are awesome. I appreciate that the clinic has all of the up-to-date diagnostic equipment. They can do x-rays, ultrasounds, and echocardiograms on site. They also have an in-house lab. Their prices are in line with other clinics. I have compared notes with my co-workers and the fees at their vet clinics are similar to Delavan Lakes. This clinic is an excellent choice for your pets. The staff has shared in our joy when a new kitten has joined our family. My family has entrusted our pets' health to Delavan Lakes Vet for years. We have always come away from visits extremely happy with their service. When our cat was sick, they were very helpful and gave us lots of information about how to take care of him. It's obvious that they realize how important your pet is to you, and they treat them as if they were your family members, not just your animal. They even write your pet's name with your last name on their medications and forms. It's also obvious that they care about and enjoy animals because they have their own resident pets, including a black long-haired cat and a parrot, who are always there to greet you whenever you come in. It makes for a very friendly and almost homey atmosphere, unlike a lot of other vet clinics. In terms of their prices, they are pretty middle of the road, but I would say their service is worth it. The Vet Techs are always extremely friendly and work hard to make your pet as comfortable as they can while they are there. We had to put a cat down there once, and the Vet Tech was very sympathetic and respectful, providing us with tissues and time alone with our pet to say goodbye. We felt very cared for, which is especially important when losing a pet. I would definitely recommend Delavan Lakes Vet to anyone looking for a good local clinic. I have Been taking my pets to Delavan Lakes since they changed owners. I have had nothing but good results from the care and services they have provide. We have two dogs and a cat. All have been seen by Dr. Hartwig and her staff. The vet techs I have dealt with have all been friendly courteous and show genuine concern for my pets well being. I take my pets on a yearly basis to be sure there are no issues that I have missed and for a general check-up of their health. I believe this is important to an animals well being. Yes there is a cost involved for the services provided, but when I shop around the prices charged by Delavan Lakes seem to be very competitive to those of other providers in the area. Delavan Lakes Veterinary Clinic has great service, well trained staff of Veterinarians and Technicians and most importantly, they have compassion. The clinic is always clean. The kennels are nicely maintained and roomy for my large dogs to stay in when we are on vacation. My dogs always smell a lot cleaner when I pick them up after their stay in the kennels than when they did when I dropped them off. They must go to a doggie spa when we are on vacation! I know my two dogs and three cats are in good hands when we are on vacation. Two years ago, our "first child", Sarge died. Now, Sarge had four legs instead of two. Sarge had numerous health issues throughout his life. If it were not for the excellent care and concern of the Veterinarians and staff at Delavan Lakes Veterinary Clinic, I do not think Sarge would have lived to be 11.5 years old. My dear Sarge in his ripe old age was diagnosed with cancer and he went down hill quickly. We knew the end was near at 10:30PM one night and we desperately needed the care of a Veterinarian. Within 20 minutes we had a Veterinarian at our door. She calmly explained to my three children that Sarge was dying and we needed to help him get to heaven. She administered the injection and Sarge peacefully went to sleep. She then handed us a piece of clay to make an imprint of Sarge's paw for a keep sake which we all cherish today. Our dear Sarge was a 110 pound guy with a huge heart of gold and a good size paw! The day after Sarge passed, another Veterinarian came over to express her sympathies. She had been taking care of Sarge since he was a puppy. Delavan Lakes Veterinary Clinic goes the extra mile. They are on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. I can attest to that. I am a frequent flyer at the vet clinic. Our eight pound cat, Ginger, decided she needed to eat one of the kids' nerf darts this year. The head of the dart was bigger than Ginger's stomach and therefore she could not pass it. Ginger had to have surgery. My son kept saying, "Mom, don't let my girlfriend die!" With the careful hands and skill of the Veterinarians, Ginger made it. She has never swallowed another nerf dart! Thank you all for everything you do. Keep up the good work! read more

I will never go to this horrible place again. My dog had a bump on his side, and I went in to have it checked. I told them repeatedly that I wanted to have the bump looked at before I did anything else. They of course kept hammering me with every shot and other thing they wanted me to do. Heartworm check, Fecal test, Rabies shots. I repeated that I really wanted the bump checked out first, bu they just ignored me and kept asking if I wanted to add additional services. I said that I did, as long as the bump wasn't anything serious. The vet came in and told me it was probably just a cyst... Based on the fact that I told the receptionist that I didn't want to do anything else until the bump was checked, I figured they would hold on everything else, but not a chance. They had me pay a deposit before I left. It was a mistake and I only have myself to blame, but you are already emotional enough when you are dealing with this stuff. I get a call later in the day that the dog has cancer. I have now paid over $378 for all this other stuff, and now they want an additional $600-$1000 to do surgery on the dogs. This stuff is criminal. These people do not care about your animals. Their only concern is charging you for every little thing they can, and then they hope your emotions will work for them to do whatever else they want. Had they done this in an ethical manner, I would have had the dogs bump checked and then immediately had the surgery. We are surviving on one income, which I told them. Now we've spent almost $400 and we have a very sick dog. I cannot express how nasty and rude the receptionists were. Stay clear of this place at all costs. Their only concern is your money. I've been taking my cats to Delavan Lakes Vet Clinic for over 10 years. The staff is super exceptional--the vet techs are wonderful and I can't say enough about Dr. Reed, Dr. Lee, and Dr. Chris Hartwig. They have shown nothing but total compassion for not only my cats by for me also. When my 19 year old cat was at her end they were just as upset as I was. I've never seen that kind of caring for other people's animals. Are they expensive--YES! Medical care is expensive for people and animals. When I read other reviews from people complaining about the cost, all I can say is you cannot put a price on the health and well-being of my pets. For all the love they have given me the least I can do is make sure they have the best care possible. That care is not cheap. Yes, I want all the x-rays and tests necessary to make sure they are the healthiest they can be. Part of being a conscientious pet owner is the willingness to take on those costs. I don't think people really understand the overhead and costs involved in running a veterinary clinic or any other business. They have up-to-date medical equipment, a highly trained staff, a clean and beautiful facility and the doctors are beyond exceptional. Worth every cent as far as I'm concerned.
