Perfect spot to grab some ice cream. Great flavors and reasonably prices. Don't miss out on this little gem.

I went in Friday, October 6, 2017 to Jan's Hallmark Shop in Delevan, WI to return an item I had…read morepurchased at a Hallmark two days earlier. It was still brand new, in the original box, in their shopping bag, and I had the receipt. I was told that the store doesn't take any returns by an older man and woman working there. They got nervous and said the owner isn't going to be happy if they have to bother her in the back. When they got the owner (per my request), before she was half way across the store to me she started yelling to leave as they don't take any returns. I kindly told her that the receipt says that Hallmark stands behind its purchases and will refund you in full within 90 days of purchase with a receipt and that nowhere in her store or on the receipt does it say that returns are not allowed. She laughed at me and said that she owns the store and can do whatever she wants. She said she's had people buy from her shop for 26 years now and she keeps making the rules and they keep buying. She repeated this several times. When I nicely asked if I could talk to someone at Hallmark, she again laughed and said Hallmark doesn't care at all about her or me, and that she can't get a hold of anyone at Hallmark herself, so good luck to me. She then continued to talk about her "pathetic customers" who spend money there and no one can do anything to help them because it's too late after they have paid and again, Hallmark doesn't care. It got to the point where I was almost crying, which made her laugh and say poor me, there was nothing I could do. She stood in the front door with her arms crossed smiling as I got in my car and pulled away.

The merchandise is equal parts books and products from local artists (and local beekeepers and Kombucha brewers!).I purchased a used book that I'd been wanting (for $2!), a jar of local honey, and spent some time speaking with the charming owner about the history of the building. It's a former bank, and the mystery section is located in the bank vault. Look a little closer at a counter where books are displayed - that's bullet proof glass and gun portals from another era. The Book Teller is definitely worth a visit, even if you're not much of a shopper - but if you are a shopper, you will love the handmade jewelry and textile products found here at very reasonable prices.

The shop is in an old bank building, and the building's features - teller wall and vault - are in use. The shop is organized well and beautiful, and is a comfortable place to visit. There is a children's section, and there is interesting availability in other genre's, considering the size of the store. Most of all, I think I appreciate the genuine community focus and the non-pretentious feel of interacting with others. I understand that they host community gatherings, which I hope to experience soon. Otherwise, I will be there on the next day that I'm ready to read something new and have no idea what it should be.
