Initially met this man in though insurance company and thought he was polite and kept his card. There's some backstory for this, so sorry for the length of this post. He gave advice on a repair that required me to either have a hole be put in my wall or have another sub-panel put in. I wasn't really excited about my options so I took his card so I'd have time to figure things out. Later, I had solar panels put in and they needed to put in a sub panel, so they did so and I asked for Vernon to come back, this turned out to be a mistake.
I had contacted him initially through the insurance company, but he called me separately to get clarity on my situation. He said he didn't remember my case (understandable) but would come by at the scheduled time to look things over again. This is where things take a turn. He then calls me the day of to ask me if the appointment is still happening. There isn't a reason for it not to, and when I say yes, he tells me he'll be late but not by how much and I could not reach him by text. He's an hour late and when I go over what was said last time he says 'how do you know' and 'I can tell you don't know what your talking about' among other things as if I shouldn't tell him what's going on in the house. Keep in mind, he asked to know what happened and I started off by telling him 'this is what you told me last time'.
I was irritated but he had been in a good mood last time, so I figured he was irritated about being late and whatnot. Nope. When he realized what I told him was correct, he then starts puncturing most of what he says to me with 'I think I told you that last time'. Regardless of if it had anything to do with his last visit.
He then gave me two choices on how to fix things, though slightly different from last time. He had found a way to possibly connect to my original panel and could hook up my outlet that wasn't currently working that way; though it would be a lot of work and cost more. He also suggested putting a hole in my wall. I really don't like the idea of having to fix the hole, and then paint over the whole living room to get my walls to match after so I go with the more expensive option. He then spends the rest of his stay saying everything under the sun to get out of it. 'It's expensive', 'the other way is perfectly legal' (that was weird to say, but I promise you he did), 'I'm expensive, $90/hr'., etc. I said I still would rather have the 'expensive' option.
I email him for an estimate and he sends me a contract. I then asked him for an itemized list. This was purely for records, the price was fine, or at least as expected. He emails me what the broken down costs were, but instead of signing the end of the email ends it with 'get other estimates'.
I was affronted, and asked if this is usually how he ends his emails to clients. His response was that it was unusual but he had a feeling I couldn't pay.
Because I asked for an itemized estimate? The most normal thing in the world?
