This is a MUST read before you consider doing business with this person. Johnny is supposedly a certified contractor, but I was charged 50% of the cost up front. According to CLSB, any contractor performing work of $500 or more must be licensed by CLSB. So the one time this guy was on time as planned was upon initial estimate. He measured, asked what I was looking to do, I showed him a picture from his advertised OfferUp post. Yes I had to pull up his info as he didn't come with any type of work ability or showing of his existing work. So we agreed on a price as reluctant as a I was with the the price I decided to give him a try. He asked if I had 50% cash to start, I was blown away because 10% or no more than $1000, which ever is the least should be required deposit for a contractor's deposit. I go ahead and reach for my credit card, he shakes his head, "no I can't accept that, they'll charge me a fee." I'm thinking, well you're a business guy why should it matter, but we settled on Paypal and I incurred a $16 fee after seeing the transaction. Very shady.
A day or two before the scheduled install Johnny calls me confirming the install date & time. The time was for 8am the following day. This was important because of my work schedule that he show up in the morning because I work in the early afternoon; which we had already discussed my timing. 8:30 am the morning of the planned install he texts me asking if he can come later around noon. I responded that I have to leave home by 1:45pm. He finally shows up right about 12pm. He starts the job & finishes at 1:50pm just as I'm about to tell him I have to leave. He presents the job, I immediately see this gap between the door and the steel post against my house that starts 1"at the top and ends at 1.5" at the very bottom; stood out like a sore thumb. I questioned it and he says "that's because your 4x4 post on the opposite side isn't level." I shook my head, notice the top of the door tilts to the right as well and check it from the other side; yep, still crooked. Now as I mentioned, he showed up late, and now I'm 5-10 minutes later than the time I'm on my way to work. He asks for payment even with the gap. He says he can stain it first thing the following morning and that it would only take him 15 min to give it a light sand & stain. Now that I'm thinking back to it, he says "you can actually do it yourself, it's easy," I responded "no I'll let you do it." What's the need in me staining a job that he's supposed to do not to mention I've paid for this service. So I'm off to work and Home Depot to BUY stain after all I've spent. Text him that night that I have the stain & I'll be awaiting his arrival in the morning to complete the job.
I'm up at 8am the following morning & he's not at my home as planned. Finally at 9am I text him asking if he's still coming because I had some things to go over with him about the gate; no reply. I text him again 25 mins later with a pic of his charger he left behind and magically he replies & with another excuse. He wanted to come the following day, the day I was scheduled to leave on family vacation which we had ALREADY discussed upon initial estimate when we went over install dates. So I let him know it pretty much sucked that he couldn't come because I'm leaving & it's scheduled to rain while I'm gone. Keep in mind, he said it would only take him 15 min, I'm wondering why he couldn't take 15 minutes to come by, stain the wood, & go over my concerns.
Fast forwarding; I try reaching him while I'm on vacation because it makes sense to set up a date while I'm away, that way we don't have to prolong any dates or have any unforeseen events later on. I reach out via Offerup, text message, even called him. No reply. I figure I'd take maters into my own hands and Dispute the transaction being that I used PayPal; very wise decision over paying this guy cash. I sent an email as Paypal suggested and NOW he responds. Luckily I'm thinking, he calls me while on vacation, we had a discussion, and an agreed upon date upon my return home.
Johnny was supposed to come by on Dec 5th between 2:30-3:30pm, one day after I returned home. Keep in mind, these are hours I'm at work. But I agreed over the phone to still meet him at my home & that I would take time off to meet. Dec 4th I texted him to confirm we're still on. No response. The day of, I texted him again, no reply. I stay home anyway just in case. (He's playing games at this point). At 3:30 he FINALLY sends a text letting me know he's in another town working. Guess his scheduling was fluid when it came to me because he gets to make the dates and no show at his pleasure. He calls me & this is where I knew I was at a loss. I basically told him of all the discrepancies & as blunt as possible without intentionally being rude to the guy. For every thing mentioned, he had rebuttal, not taking ownership, FULL OF EXCUSES. He hung up after I called his bull crap. DO NOT USE this guys' services!!! read more
