First thought was to go to Hyundai. I described the problem and they said they would be replacing the transmission as they do not do repair work and it would be about $7000. Keep in mind they hadn't even looked at it but there was a significant charge for even a code reader. I had already read mine and nothing was showing. I took it to A1 and Miguel said they would take a look at it. After taking it for a short drive the mechanic came back with his tablet and said it's nothing that a seven dollar can of Seafoam won't solve. I have a clogged injector. I used the seafoam and my car drives like new. There was no charge for the Diagnostic! I'm green when it comes to auto mechanics and could've easily been taken for a ride. The vehicle remained at the shop for over a year, and throughout that time we were repeatedly told that repairs were being completed. When the vehicle was finally returned to us, it continued to have the same issues it had when it was originally dropped off. We recently sought an independent inspection from a certified Mini Cooper technician and were informed that many of the repairs we paid for do not appear to have been performed. According to the technician, the vehicle remains in substantially the same condition as before. We have attempted to resolve this matter directly with the shop but have not received a satisfactory explanation or resolution. Complaints have been filed with the Better Business Bureau and the Texas Attorney General's Office. I am sharing this because I wish someone had warned us. If you are considering major repairs on your vehicle, I strongly encourage you to obtain detailed documentation, ask for old parts to be returned, and consider getting a second opinion before authorizing expensive repairs. I had a scheduled appointment and dropped my car off around 7:00-7:30 a.m. on Friday, yet I didn't get my vehicle back until Monday. I also never received an update call--I had to call them myself. While delays can happen, my real concern is the accuracy and honesty of the information I was given. After their inspection, I was told my vehicle needed a new A/C compressor, condenser, and expansion valve, bringing the total repair cost to $6,411.07, including labor. That is a major expense, so I declined the service and sought a second opinion. I then took my car to Alpine Motor Works, where they identified the actual issue: a leaking Freon valve. They replaced the valve and recharged the A/C system, fully resolving the problem for $205.65 total. There is no reasonable explanation for being told I needed over $6,000 in repairs when the real issue was a minor leak. This feels extremely misleading and unprofessional. I was even encouraged to finance the repair and pay off the balance within 90 days, which now feels even more concerning given how unnecessary those repairs turned out to be. Being given such drastically incorrect information after a diagnostic is unacceptable. Customers rely on shops to provide honest assessments, not inflated repair recommendations. I will not be returning, and I strongly encourage others to seek a second opinion before committing to major repairs here.

My 2009 Cadi CTS w/ 125k miles started slipping and not shifting correctly. So I called Larry at Showcase Auto in Pasadena where I had recently bought a used truck--another great experience and 5-star review--for his recommendations knowing they were in the car business. Larry had only 1 tranny guy... Ken at A-1 Champion. I called A-1, and Ken answered and said bring it in for free check. Ken called me a couple hours later saying it was the TCM, and he could replace it and completely service the tranny for just over $800 (I feared it would be double that). Car was ready the very next day. Couple days later, it slipped out of gear at a stop light (ugh, I thought 'on no, here we go'). Called Ken and he said he would send a tow truck to pick it up. He called me that same day and said the torque converter had failed and damaged the pump (a $1,200 fix). Called him the next morning to discuss what I needed to do. He said 'just come pick up the car'. I was confused since I didn't authorize any work. He said he fixed it and the cost would be zero $$. I tried to at least cover labor but he wouldn't take it. Ken runs a tight shop and I could tell he is all business. The folks there are attentive, responsive, and focused on getting your car back to you quickly. My experience with A-1 was very good with quick and fair-priced repairs. They fixed only what needed fixing, instead of up-selling a bunch of unnecessary repairs. I appreciated they making sure it was done right, and standing behind their work. I will go here for all future tranny work, and would highly recommend A-1 Champion to my family and friends.
