Very informative instructor with all the right qualifications and experience! I'm not thrilled about having guns in my home and this has been a huge sticking point in my marriage. I came to be informed! I can't allow double standards in my relationship nor can I squelch my husband's needs to meet my own. He can't make me uncomfortable in my home to appease himself. The best compromise we could find to satisfy us both is for me to become educated and to educate my family in order to ensure safety always comes first! Still not sure how I feel about it but I am trying. At the range he was patient and professional! My husband says "you can tell he really cares about the class." I agree. You can also tell he cares about our right to protect ourselves and our families, while taking very seriously the facts and the law. I appreciate his approach and would give my recommendation for you to give him a shot (no pun intended) if conceal carry is what you're considering. After having attended both the first steps and CPL classes, I highly recommend Defensive Shooting Skills. Jeff is an excellent instructor, providing the information in an easily digestible manner, while also keeping you engaged. He takes the time to answer everyone's questions and does so in a non-judgmental fashion. I've encountered some teachers (not specific to firearms training) that discourage questions simply by their responses, Jeff is the opposite. It's evident that Jeff has a gift and passion for teaching. The shooting portion of our class was done at Centershot in Dorr. It's a little bit of a drive, but it's a great indoor facility (I'll do a separate review for them soon) If you're looking for quality instruction, whether it be the first steps or CPL class, Defensive Shooting Skills should be at the top of your list. One last thing I also want to mention is that they are VERY responsive to inquiries, something that seems be an afterthought with some of the other places in the area that offer training classes. read more

Just took this class yesterday. Excellent. I took a CPL course years ago and because my license has been expired for more than a year I had to start from scratch and retake the course. Compared to the the other course these people are great! I even learned a few new things especially because laws change all the time. I highly recommend this place.The instructors, Jeffery and his wife were informative, helpful and attentive while in class and on the range. Their sense of communication and team skills while on the range were notably well executed. They are an experienced and well qualified team of people. Highly recommended! read more
