    Dee's YUMMY Double Bacon Cheeseburger
    Sue A.

Just about a stones throw from the West Virginia border in Louisa, KY is this hidden little gem with all kinds of yummy goodness and friendly, helpful staff. My husband had Dee's Double Bacon Cheeseburger with a side of Onion Rings and Potato Salad. As I wasn't very hungry, I ordered a plain burger with tomato only and a side of mashed potatoes and gravy. If I'd ordered 2 burgers, I would have eaten them both. They as well as my mashed potatoes were flavorful and positively delicious. At one point I looked up and saw that my hubby's cheeseburger had vanished into thin air, yes indeed he was a very happy camper with his meal as well. We missed the opportunity to try their raved about milkshakes but fully intend to rectify that on our return trip! The front desk clerk at our hotel who had told us about Dee's said it has been around as long as he can remember, it was a popular hangout back when his Grandma was in high school. (Thanks Cody) We'll be back Dee!

A Louisa staple and quite possibly the best chocolate milkshake I've ever had. Their burgers taste like one straight out of a family cookout and their cheesesticks are complete noms. Pass on the ranch, tastes like hidden valley and I was honestly hoping for something more homemade. They have a drive up where your food's delivered to you or you can go in and eat. Such a picturesque little hometown spot. Totally recommend.

Very friendly staff and food was good. It is made in behind counter but you can watch your food being made. They have daily specials such as chicken and dumplings, country fried steak, and etc.. Also hamburgers and hot dogs with several choices of ice cream.

Dee's is as old-school and small-town as it gets. I was traveling for work, and while I'm not adverse to chain fast food in the least bit, there are just so many dubious McDonald's and Subways inside fuel stations that I can take before my stomach flip-flops in rebellion (I didn't even stop and eat at any of these places, but that is ALLLLL I saw as potential meals during the long commute). I decided to try Dee's (which I'd actually seen on someone's Instagram account), which is a local favorite, over 50 years old and still busily operating in its original location on Main St., and has the reputation as being NOT fast food, just food fast. I parked (parking is LIMITED, and the ingress/egress situation ain't great, but it's in a small downtown, so traffic isn't too bad), and decided to eat inside, where I ordered at the counter and they call your name when your order is ready. Again, old school: handwritten notes on numbered tickets; handwritten menu signs; all-female staff cook your order fresh (so it takes a little but longer than a typical fast food joint); country favorites like soup beans with raw chopped onion and cornbread, breakfast all day, hot dogs, burgers, shakes and pie. The food is quite cheap, so order up to avoid the $0.50 surcharge on all credit transactions less than $7. I had crinkle cut fries with a side of cheese dip, two hotdogs with their "famous" chili dog sauce + onions and mustard (hey, I was HUNGRY! And the portions aren't huge), and a caramel-chocolate milkshake. Overall, the food was very fresh and I thought downright yummy. I really liked the chili dog sauce, it is the kind I am used to eating growing up in small town KY: beanless, meaty, forkably thick, without a hint of sweetness - almost like a sloppy joe filling (sorry, Cincinnati - I love your Graeter's, Busken, and Saratoga chips, but I just can't dig your chili). I really liked my meal at Dee's, it was cheap and satisfyingly home-y. I would definitely recommend eating here instead of the other chain fast food joints littering the area in abundance.

I've always told people how great this place is and that they should definitely check it out…read more.. However, when I stopped by today, it was a different story. Two young girls were talking behind the cash register when we walked in. They didn't say 'hello' or 'welcome' or give any greeting. It took a while for them to acknowledge us.We ordered for the four-year-old and I asked for butter pecan. After I paid almost $14 for two scoops of ice cream, I noticed the butter pecan tasted a little grainy. (It had always been delicious before.) Anyone who has worked in the ice cream business knows that means the ice cream is getting old. I told the young girls how it tasted and what it meant. One of them said, " that was the last of it." I said that that was the reason it tasted like it did, because it was the last of the tub. I asked them if they had any more and one of them said, " not at this time." (I saw several tubs of ice cream sitting out on the counter ready to be put in the showcase.) I asked them if I could get something else because I didn't want to pay $7 for something I would throw away. they just looked at each other. One girl didn't say anything, but moved to the cooler and asked what I wanted. I settled for something I really didn't want. The young lady got it for me and reached it to me over-the-counter without saying a word. She acted as if I was in the wrong and that she shouldn't have had to replace it. We stayed inside to eat our ice cream and the place started filling up with people. It was packed. I saw more than one person getting two scoops of butter pecan ice cream....... Really?!?!?? ... all of that within a span of five minutes! I went up to the counter and said," I thought you didn't have any butter pecan." She said, " We didn't at the time. It was too hard and we keep it in the refrigerator until they soften up a bit.." I understand that it's hard to get good help these days. I hear it all the time from different business owners. But when you're in the customer service business, such as this, workers can and should learn the proper way to treat the public. All it would have taken to remedy this situation would've been a smile and a little extra muscle put into scooping out one scoop of ice cream. Business owners should put cameras in their places of business and watch how their employees interact with their customers. Pleasantry and kind service goes a long way.
