They offer a variety of rooms at different price points - we chose the Trinidad Room which is on the second floor of a two-story, four room house. What's great is that many of the rooms have patio areas with tables and chairs for lounging. The premises felt pretty secure with a locked gate. The grounds were kept very clean. The Inn has a well-maintained pool with lounge chairs, tables, and a small bar were they host a 430-530 happy hour (they ring a bell to let guests know when it starts) and breakfast after 8 am. Guests were mostly friendly. Why wouldn't they be? They're visiting Key West! There's ice on the premises (important for Florida) and a large, glass pitcher providing fresh, cold water, 24/7. The Inn has bikes to rent which are in good shape and recommended for longer excursions (the island is flat and very bike friendly). Two bikes were about $32 for the day. Our only ding is that the surrounding area is quite loud and busy, with many loud vehicles (cars, trucks, motorcycles) passing by the property all day and one side of the property abuts a noisy harbor area. If you're looking for a quieter experience, you may want to check out other locations. The Inn informs you of different paid parking options, the closest (a short 5 minute walk) being the most expensive ($40 / day, which ends 10 am the next morning), and the farthest (about a 15 minute walk) being the least expensive ($15 / day, cash only). I tried each one and they both seemed safe places to leave your car overnight. The Inn is a short walk to central KW, Duvall St and many great sites and restaurants. Because it is on the northern side of Key West, sites along the southern part will take longer to get to and street parking is quite a challenge and if you do manage to find a spot, very expensive. In fact, we rented the Inn's bikes to visit Fort Zachary Taylor Beach and a piano bar at The Gardens Hotel. The bikes were a great way to explore the key, which on a map looks smaller than it really is! The Inn Keepers including Tracy were great! They were very helpful and attentive during hours - off hours start at 6pm.

The room was huge with a private entrance and patio, and nearby the pool. The location is phenomenal right near Duvall Street but without loud noise or chaos, it becomes a quiet retreat. Service was so friendly here and we loved the happy hour rum punch and seeing Mango in the morning! The pool was also fantastic. I would be more than thrilled to stay here again!!!! One note - because of the low ceilings, be careful if you're super tall in the Puerto Rico room!!!

They happened to show up on a hotels.com search with the Havana Suite at a pretty decent price, so we jumped on it. They did have one quarter-point demerit, but being a small independent B&B, I cut them some slack. A day after making the 4-day reservation (which we only made a few days before driving down), they ran a charge on the credit card for the first night. It surprised us, but was no big deal. The Havana Suite itself was nearly perfect for our needs. Only downfalls were 1) that sound really carries between the loft and the downstairs bed, so snorers will still wake everyone up, and 2) the shower, while attractive, is awkward. There is a gorgeous big rain shower head in the middle of a small shower stall, so getting out from under the water to scrub/condition is impossible. But... the room had a great kitchenette, a private balcony, and an entrance set apart from the rest of the rooms (making late night post-bar arrivals unobtrusive). We even had the company of the resident cat most of the time we were there. He plunked right down on the main bed and went to sleep. The breakfast was great- bagels with house-mixed cream cheeses, pastries, hard boiled eggs, and lots of fresh fruit. Not too heavy but no typical continental sugar assault. We didn't make it for happy hour, but they appear to have a wine tasting thing in the evenings. As others have mentioned, the hot tub is more of a warm tub, but it was still relaxing after the long drive down the keys. A few more degrees would really be appreciated though. On top of the space and the breakfast, the location was perfect. Sandwiched between the Hemingway House and Duval, on the quieter end of the strip. The bars, restaurants, and shops within a block were great for getting away from the fishbowl drinks and trolleys, but were still only a quarter mile away from the "scene" and maybe a half mile from the water. Parking is pure luck. You can park free on the street in the neighborhood, but it's every man for himself finding (and squeezing into) a space. There is a lot the B&B provides a few blocks away, but save that as a last resort. It may take a few laps, but you should be able to find a spot. The B&Bs in Old Town are definitely the way to do Key West, and this one was great for us.

When we got into bed, we immediately noticed a strong smell of urine. After removing the fitted sheet, we found a large yellow stain on the protective cover. I called the hotels emergency number and instead of helping, the staff member repeatedly told me it was "not possible" there was urine. After arguing just to be taken seriously, she eventually came to the hotel but remained dismissive, briefly smelled the sheets without checking the stained area, and had me carry the soiled sheets downstairs myself. We were only given fitted sheets and a blanket and had to remake the bed ourselves, using multiple sheets to try to create a barrier. However, the urine smell was still present. The front desk was polite the next morning, but the situation itself was unacceptable. No guest should have to sleep in a urine-contaminated bed or be treated this way when reporting it. Additionally, I have been attempting to get a refund for nearly a month and the management has not returned any of my emails. I would not stay here again.

If you walk straight out the front door with a big beautiful wrap around porch with cozy seating to watch Truman Ave. come to life in the mornings with coffee. The back porch has à la cart continental breakfast items there is also a served breakfast of the day that can be customized how you like. There are always free snacks, cereal, sodas and water on hand in the kitchen. You can grab them on your way out or while you hang around the property and relax in the many garden seating areas or the house library with nooks to relax in. Do not expect to hop into a chilled pool in the 90 degree heat. , it seems to be a hot tub only. As long as the heat is 'off' it can be a relaxing temp soak it has a perfect ledge for sitting and sipping with new friends.

They charge a resort fee and there is nothing about this place that could be considered a resort. We recently discovered the hotel was sold to new owners. Kim, the lady we dealt with for years was fired. They no longer offer complementary parking in their lot, which has now been taken over by a private concession with an exorbitant charge to park and it is in an area of Key West where there is rarely another place to park unless you get lucky. The rooms are clean and comfortable, but that's not enough for me to stay there again given the changes. Considering there are lots of other places to stay that are less expensive and offer free breakfast there is no longer any advantage staying at Douglas House. They took out the Jacuzzi a few years ago, so now there is only a very small pool and free coffee, which are the only amenities. Not recommended.

Each room is unique with amenities you wouldn't expect like a small fridge, a coffee pot and an honor selection of snacks and beverages for purchase. The rooms are clean and have great water pressure and lots of hot water unlike most hotels. And it's an adults only facility for those of us looking for a peaceful space. They even offer their own adjacent parking for a small fee. You won't regret choosing Simonton Cottages .
