It sits on its own beach and is very quiet and serene. Breakfasts were an "event" with hot egg and meat breakfast dishes, fresh fruit and a variety of breads along with juice and bottomless coffee served in an atrium that was open to the skies and full of rocks and plants. The Barnacle is now under new ownership and the atmosphere has changed dramatically. We recently stayed there for six nights, from a Tuesday to the next Monday. Gone are the varied colors, rocks and plants. The atrium is now roofed over and has all the charm of a high-school cafeteria. The color is primarily beige as is the experience. Breakfast is now serve-yourself cold continental. Saturday and Sunday were "special" because, without any warning, explanation, apology or compensation, there was no breakfast at all. Not a scrap to be found nor anyone from management or staff to provide it. We were left completely alone to our own devices. Good luck. There are some other changes to the Barnacle as well, specifically the posted warnings "This property is under 24-hour surveillance" with cameras to boot. There's even one on the rooftop sundeck which seems not only intrusive but not a little bit creepy as well. All this was ours for the premium price of $450 per night. They get two stars because it was clean, the AC in the room worked and the bed was comfortable. But that's where the "good news" ends. Over the years, we've recommended to many people that they should stay at the Barnacle. Now, and it pains us to say this, we have to recommend you don't.

My stays were always a pleasure to enjoy this Key. With Key Dear it's enchanting along with diving/snorkeling. I hope to be able call this year to come down. Your Mother probably isn't at Big Pine. The rooms are comfortable and full of personality, with small details that make them feel lived-in rather than staged. Outside, the gardens are the star -- leafy, quiet and perfect for lingering. Our room had a wraparound porch and a hammock. Breakfast isn't an afterthought. It's fresh fruit, homemade dishes and good coffee served outdoors, slow and unrushed. And because it's independently owned, the hospitality feels real -- warm, attentive and low-key in the best way. You come to Key West for the energy. You stay here for the calm. And you leave wishing you'd planned to stay longer.

The Mermaid & The Alligator is hands-down the best bed-and-breakfast in Key West, and honestly, you'll wish you never had to leave. Housed in a 1904 Victorian mansion right in the heart of Old Town, this independently owned gem has the kind of charm chain hotels only pretend to have. Think wraparound porches, lush tropical gardens, orchids dangling from banyan trees, and a vibe so tranquil you half expect Hemingway to stroll through with a daiquiri. The rooms? Gorgeous. Each one feels personal, with Caribbean-inspired decor, canopy beds, and soft linens that make it way too easy to "accidentally" sleep through your Duval Street plans. Outside, the gardens are pure Key West magic: fountains trickle, palms sway, and yes -- the occasional rooster might strut by like it owns the place. Breakfast here is its own event: fresh tropical fruit, homemade pastries, quiches, and strong coffee served in the garden. It's the kind of peaceful start that makes you consider selling everything, moving here, and writing your memoirs. And because it's independently owned, the hospitality feels personal -- warm, genuine, and full of little touches that make you feel less like a guest and more like a friend who lucked into paradise. The Mermaid & The Alligator isn't just a stay; it's a love letter to Key West itself. Come for the charm, stay for the breakfast, and leave plotting how to "accidentally" extend your trip.

The entire property was renovated with high-end materials, furnishings and decor. We got The Beach front cottages next to each others, some good friends of ours traveled with my husband and myself. It was perfect. Very low-key. They recommended Midway café, and oh my gosh, such a great find! Maybe a 3 to five minute walk from the cottages! They also gave us recommendations and I don't remember the name. We walked across the street for dinner the first night the second night we Uber to another place down the road. We'll be back!

Pines and Palms retirement community!…read more We've stayed here for a few years and always had a great experience... last year (2024) we were told that the resort would undergo a renovation and would be featured on HGTV's Restoration Island. We were excited about the new changes and rebooked for 2025. Fast forward to 2025, we arrived and were pleasantly surprised by the new look! the property looks great! Now to the bad.... the pool/bar. The property doesn't have a liquor license. therefore, if you like anything other than beer, you're out of luck. If you do happen to have a preloaded yeti with your favorite mixed drink, watch out! The pool boy will promptly call you out and ask you to stow it. Additionally, at 8pm the pool closes !!!!! No evening dips. I was told that was due to no attendant present. However, the beach is still open and "swim at your own risk" as if that's safer at night.... seems as if the unavailability to charge you $10 for a drink has out weighed your ability to use the pool. Additionally, pines and palms charter is no longer here, I was told the boat was sold, I was given a number to a captain that provides services to the resort, snorkeling/fishing and such. That person doesn't answer... You're better off going elsewhere. In the end, I'm sitting here writing a review while at the resort at 9pm, disappointed. It's a bummer, this place was a hidden gem.

We booked this establishment months in advance, which is probably necessary, as we wanted a premium and quiet room. Arrival was easy. Of note, unlike most establishments in Key West, they have a dedicated and paved adjacent parking lot. As we arrived just a little later than planned due to plenty of rain on our route, the Inn called and checked our arrival time and kept afternoon snacks and drinks available. We were walked to our room after an easy check in and shown the highlights of our room. A basic, but premium , continental serve yourself breakfast was provided every morning. Also, every late afternoon snacks and happy hour was present. Pro tip - try the house made sangria! The amenities and comforts of the room were great. The bed was comfortable with several pillows and premium sheets. The room was cleaned thoroughly daily with fresh towels provided. The A/C is the older type wall model with some noise; but actually nice white noise, and it worked really well. Make no mistake; Key West is hot and humid, you'll be loving the A/C. The toiletries were nice and plentiful. The shower and upgraded spa tub were absolutely perfect. There is a little fridge, wet bar and Keurig with several K cups, cream and sugar. Two blocks away is the historic Hemingway House and Key West Lighthouse. Also, a great Cuban cafe is a block away. A CVS is nearby for emergency purchases. Numerous restaurants and shops are nearby. We parked our SUV and walked everywhere during our stay. One day we got a trolley ticket for the further sights such as The Southernmost Point. Lastly but not least. The staff are extremely professional, knowledgeable and willing to assist. Huge kudos especially to Danny who was absolutely stellar as he assisted and served us numerous times. In addition to Danny, Cary was also a notable benefit to us and this wonderful lodge. Lastly, kudos to our housekeeper as she was very thorough and came and went daily with perfect timing. Next time we visit Key West in the Free State of Florida we will only consider Almond Tree Inn!

The location is great, we walked to many restaurants, breweries and coffee shops. Everyone (staff and guests) was wonderful and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and do plan to return. Here are some tips for anyone planning to stay here and some suggestions to the resort: CHECK IN - Easy Peasy. Nice women greeted us and told us a little about the resort. Sadly, no champagne was offered to us, as we read in other reviews. ROOM - We were in a "partial ocean view one bedroom king suite", in the 'highrise' building - number 20. The room was a little dated as we expected. The bathroom is very tiny, but functional. Nice kitchen area. Bed was comfortable and lots of pillows. Table and chairs on the deck overlooking the resort. Overall, great room and had a decent ocean view. The only thing about the Highrise rooms is you can't use the grills, but that was not an issue for us, as we hadn't planned to do that. You really don't need to spend much time in the room. HOUSEKEEPING - Rooms were clean; plenty of towels - beach towels replaced daily. Wet mopped daily and had a nice smell. POOL - Clean and warm. Nothing fancy, but its perfect for the P&P vibe. Pool bar was great, Anderson was our man. Happy hour is 3-5 every day. Everyone talks to one another and we watched some fun sporting events. Saturday there was live music. I wish it was more than one day. The musician was good. BEACH/OCEAN - Cute little beach, with lounge chairs and a hammock. We used a kayak one day which was really fun, there is also paddle boards for use. 2 nice piers to walk out for sunrise or to look at fish. One pier has 2 Adirondack chairs. Beach area could use some firepits, cornhole and/or horseshoes. OTHER - Yoga on the beach Sat and Thurs. I wish it was offered more frequently, I didn't get to partake. Bikes on the resort to use, we rode around town one day and stumbled upon a farmers market. Adorable boutique on site. Truly ADORABLE. Check out the orchids in the trees!! Offsite, check out (all walkable): Midway Cafe, Islamorada Brewing Company, Florida Keys Brewing Company, Bob's Bunz, Square Grouper, Lazy Days, Amara Cay (resort bar open later than PP bar) And don't miss the Tarpon Feeding at Robbies!!

I love Pines & Palms on Islamorada. The property is quaint & has a nice relaxing vibe.read more

Check in was easy (they even got us in early). Rooms were nice, sheets were clean, room was stocked and cool. Fridge in every room and all toiletries available. It was the perfect combination of a nap on there numerous provided hammocks. There's always some festivity going on to choose from but we went our own route. Happy hour is available even on the weekends and make sure to grab some bites. There are a couple of fast food places around just in case and local restaurants but all you really need is here at the resort. Our days were filled with ocean breezes, cold cocktails, naps by the sea, and the perfect sunsets. Also available were spa services and gym. Take advantage of it all!

Location - This hotel is located right in the middle of Marathon in the Florida Keys. Marathon is a fairly large city when looking at the keys and this hotel is right in the middle of everything this island has to offer. You are close to many different restaurants, a Publix, famous 7-Mile Bridge and the one of the best beaches in the Keys, Sombrero Beach. Rooms & Building - Rooms are all suites and spacious. They reminded me of what you would find normally at an Embassy Suites. The style and theme was modern, nautical which fit the surrounding area. The room had a fridge and microwave and a small living area. The bathroom had a spacious rainfall shower and large vanity with plenty of room to spare. Amenities - The hotel has two outdoor pools onsite. The pools are heated and stayed comfortable throughout our stay. The site also offers a small butterfly garden, green space with firepits and hammocks, and beautiful marina views (and sunsets). The property grounds are well maintained and beautiful. Food - Breakfast is not included in your stay but there is a restaurant and coffee shop onsite. The coffee shop serves Cuban-style coffee which was unique and very good. The breakfast sandwiches at the coffee shop were also pretty good. We didn't eat at the restaurant but the food menu looked interesting. Vibe - Easy going staff and customers. No complaints. Reality vs. Online - Pictures that I saw on their website and online matched the quality and condition of the hotel and rooms in-person. No surprises. Price & Final Verdict - If you are looking for a luxurious stay while in the Florida Keys, Faro Blanco offers a good mix of luxury and hotel-styled amenities. One neat perk - if you are a Diamond member, you can use the amenities at their sister resort next door (infinity pool, hot tub, and man-made beach). Prices tend to fall into the $300's+ for a night, so this place might not be in everyone's price range or interest.
