*Perfect place to re unite with family CANT WAIT TO COME BACK…read more My wife and I reside in north jersey and we searched at length for the perfect location that was midway between Ohio and New Jersey and our cabin at CFTHC was the perfect spot. "Hidden Oaks" was the perfect fit for the combined families (My wife and I + My sister and brother in law and their 2 year old twin girls and 7 year old son plus the fact that my sister in law is 8 months pregnant so we are a tough group with multiple needs. Hidden Oaks was roomy and comfortable, offering both families their own space in addition to excellent common areas which made relaxing by the fire, watching a movie, or just sitting on the back porch swing watching the snow fall with all of us together and laughing a weekend to remember, and well worth the price. We were delayed in NJ in midst of a snowstorm so we arrived after midnight and the staff had a key waiting as well as a map to the cabin which we found easily. Every one we met couldn't have been nicer. My advice would be to review the list of what they recommend to bring. The cabin had everything we needed pots, pans, cork screw, wine glasses etc....we are already planning our trip back in a couple months. Great people,Great place, great time, great price.

No air conditioning makes this cabin a little too humid and so nothing dries inside (like your hair). The lighting is poor, with dim yellow light bulbs. Also it is very dog friendly here. The floor, bedding and curtains had plenty of pet hair. Investing a couple hundred bucks and a little more TLC could make a huge difference.

The fire tower is an absolute must, and although there are trails to take to reach the fire tower, I love the drive through the forest, the best. Since many are visiting the fire tower along with Seneca point I always try and visit earlier in the mornings when there's not a lot of people. I also am a fan of the lodging in the area. The cabins (River & McBeth) are very affordable & comfortable and sometimes we even stay nearby in Brookville. A lot to book up fast but they do have availability from time to time so even if its last minute, still check their websites. The sawmill is so fun to shop at as well as Parkers Indian trading Post. We love Cook Forest & will always return!!

If you're the hiking type, there are 52 miles of trails to explore. If you're a birder, you'll definitely want to grab your binoculars and check out different parts of the park, as numerous birds inhabit the forest. If you prefer spending a day on the water, you can go swimming in the Clarion River, as well as rent kayaks, canoes, and river tubes. It's not hard to find a good spot to fish, and in the winter you can also enjoy cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, sledding, and ice-skating. In my case, Cook Forest is just a couple of hours away - a day trip isn't out of the question. Still, it's so much nicer to spend an entire weekend in this beautiful place. Fortunately, that's pretty easy to do! Campgrounds and log cabins alike are available within the park. The cabins are very popular, but have no fear: there are hotels within driving distance of the park as well. Do keep in mind that cell service is not guaranteed here; this is totally OK in my book, but it does mean that having a rough idea of where you'll be driving is essential. Grab a map or write down some directions from Google Maps - then go forth and enjoy your time in this beautiful place!

We went for the breakfast buffet. The restaurant is in the center of The Shiloh Resort campground. When we arrived (Saturday @ 11:00 am) there was an empty parking lot and only one other table seated. Now I was a little worried. Mid July and only one other table, what gives? I am normally the one to try and support mom and pops but I was a little apprehensive. We decided to take a chance at $6.95 it was worth a shot. And I am so glad we did. Mama Doe greeted us immediately with a warm smile. Everyone was very attentive. I loved the fact that they didn't load up the buffet pans to let items sit. Everything came out fresh. The Buffet Scrambled eggs or scrambled eggs with peppers onion cheese and tomato (and a hint of curry if I'm not mistaken), those eggs were delicious. Next sliced potato home fries with onion, perfectly browned. Thin sliced bacon (I like mine thicker, but it was ok) and savory sausage links browned to perfection). Thick sliced French toast, this was sweet with a touch of nutmeg I believe. I hope I am not giving away Mama Doe's secrets. Pancakes were light and fluffy. The biscuits were fresh and warm. The sausage gravy was ok, I prefer crumbled sausage. After breakfast, we struck up a conversation with Ray and Doe and the other patrons. Ray & Doe told us about the history of the resort. Then offered a tour of the place. It is a beautiful campground with a chapel, restaurant, main lodge, cabins, and camping areas. Right between Cook Forest State Park and Clear Creek State Park. I know we will be visiting again.

If you have a chance to talk to the owners you'll find what a sweet couple they are. Note: the restaurant is not always open Monday and Tuesday, so check hours before you go. I feel this is a very important piece of information for anyone who is deciding whether or not to spend their money here. When I saw the sign on the road I guess I thought it was just a generic bbq sign. I didn't recognize the logo. After walking around a bit it just seemed familiar but I couldn't place it. When I tried to engage with the clerk they definitely dodged all my questions. They don't operate the restaurant attached to the store/gas station/cabins. They just let them operate there. Definitely a big disappointment that they're sharing space. When I decide where to spend my money I take honestly and transparency into account. They're hoping the world forgot. They want to serve food at the location but not have to deal with the food service aspect. They want all the traffic that comes with that but none of the stain of the reputation. Nope. I will no longer book any cabins or make any other purchases at the store or gas station as long as they are leasing space and profiting from this other business. Any attempt to bully me to take this review down will only be taken to social media in a big way.
