What a charming park! There's lots of fun hiking trails. We drove in kind of on a whim to camp, and the park office staff person was incredibly friendly and helpful, even booking one of her "favorite" campsites for us. Some of the oldest trees in the state are in this parking. They're more than 300 years old. Apparently Pennsylvania had a major lumbering industry and the trees were spared by Mr. Cook, thus creating Pennsylvania's first state park. #funfacts

This is a great place with so much to do. Highly recommend going in October, it's not as busy and the fall is just beautiful. Make sure to see Clear Creek and Beartown rocks while you're there!

Ok. In the name of transparency I will say that I am not a die-hard hiker, but that is not nearly all offered by a visit to Cook Forest! I am an photography enthusiast and Cook Forest, in addition to being 6 miles from where I grew up, is one of my favorite photography models. There's the obvious: Clarion River, beautiful forest trails and scenic rest areas. There are interesting businesses nestled in, too, like the canoe livery and Forest Café (Hershey's ice cream!!). They blend in well and have been in place for years (way). Less obvious: the local eagle which nests on the river, the Cook Mausoleum and the Fire Tower overlooking Seneca Point. There are soft ball games, bicycling, picnics and river tubing in the summer; ice skating and a snow-man building festival in the winter. Spring and fall are obviously when the Forest struts its stuff. Being a one-time local, I know of the camping and cabins, but beyond working there in summers through high school, cannot comment. Watch your speed and enjoy this State Park - she's big and she's beautiful! AND TAKE YOUR CAMERA!

Great view from the fire tower

There was an impressive amount of things to see and do here! There are multiple viewing areas of the dam and reservoir area. We had come around from Kinzua Point and thus encountered the parking lot along the road near the top of the dam first. The views were great, and the dam was an impressive sight. There is also a restroom facility available in this area. A short walk from the parking lot also revealed an intriguing sign that read, "Smorgasbord Forest 1/3 mile Long Trail to Nature Center," which we decided to explore. It turns out there is a lot of neat stuff on the lower dam section, as well. There were several nice overlooks down there, plus a variety of amenities including picnic tables and grills, a playground with slides, swings, and more, and the aforementioned nature center, called the Big Bend Visitor Center. Unfortunately, the visitor center was labeled closed on our visit with no indication of hours. There is additional parking available on this lower section if one would rather drive there directly, rather than take the trail from the upper section, though part of it was under construction at our visit. Very nice area!

The park was very calm and peaceful, with only a few other visitors when we stopped by. The lake and its small dam were beautiful to look at. The lake offers an accessible dock for fishing too. There are a number of picnic tables and shelterhouses throughout the park, plus some nice modern restrooms in good condition available. There is great beach area with a nearby playground, plus a campground with yurts and trails. It was a beautiful and relaxing visit to a very nice state park!

Its a unique State Park that shares it boundaries with National Forest Land making it really feel as if your in the middle of nowhere. Chapman State Park offers a beautiful campground with great amenities for families. As well as Cabin and Yurt rentals. Chapman also offers a Beach for swimming as well as a few Playgrounds for kids. Chapman has a pretty decent trail system for Hiking as well as Bike Riding. The large draw to the park is the Large lake that acts as the center piece for the Park. At one end of the Park is a beautiful spillway at the edge of the lake. Overall if your looking for a Pennsylvania State Park away from it all, but great for families Chapman is a great choice.
