A perfect, quiet marina with great staff and plenty of amenities. Booking a slip is easy using the app. Arrival is simple. The marina is fairly well protected from weather, the fairways are generous and the staff helps you tie up. The docks are in good condition. Lighting is adequate at night (not too little, but more importantly, not too much!), power pedestals are in good condition. Water is from a reverse osmosis system, so you need to be careful with your usage. No boat washing, which is fine. The general store and cafe are awesome. Good food, essential supplies and good business hours. Restrooms are clean and spacious. Hand dryers but no paper towels, which is okay but not great. Laundry facility is clean with good equipment. Nearby food is very good but limited. There is a pizza place directly across from the marina - limited hours. The BBQ place up the street (10-minute walk) is fantastic and has a good selection of beer, a full bar and a huge outdoor seating area. Overall, the vibe is relaxed. Cute little gift shop and grocery store. The docks are in good shape and well-tended. Bathrooms were clean and recycling/ garbage disposal were included in the fees. Friendly staff and easy to enjoy dock picnic tables, we enjoyed our one night stay here. We'll be back in the future. read more

Decided to visit Deer Harbor Marina while on the island. So glad I did. A small downtown area with a charming little store serving food. And really friendly. The smell of bacon drew me in. I kept it simple with a plain bagel and cream cheese with grape jelly. Views were gorgeous on a super sunny morning. They also have clean restrooms. It's truly magical on Orcas Island. I have visited a few times, but recently made my first trip out onto the dock during warmer months, and it's a whole different world out there. Whereas winter held few boats and far less action, it was a-hoppin' this time, even during the times of COVID. It's a small marina, but it's open to the public to walk (no idea about docking/fueling/boating) and they even have a small snack bar type restaurant and a few picnic tables. Among the real draws are the basket of fried goodies I saw (fries, onion rings, etc) and the real prize--ice cream. We didn't get food this time as I had no idea they were serving it, but boy howdy I want to next time. We walked around the docks a bit and admired the boats (masks mandatory right now) and it was a lovely way to experience the summer sun and water. read more

I absolutely love deer Harbor Marina! They have the cutest little café with yummy breakfast sandwiches, burritos, coffee, drinks, and incredible clam chowder as well! You get to sit out on the dock, and enjoy the food while watching the boats. So, so fun! read more

We (my mom, my dad, my sister, and I) stopped here for a fuel stop for our boat when my sister and I were growing up. I remember being shocked (in a good way) at how remote Deer Harbor Marina was from other things on Orcas Island, not all of the marinas we visited or stayed at in the San Juan Islands were that way. It was very busy when we came, but filling the boat's fuel tank didn't take too long and went without any problems. I remember the approach by boat feeling tight, but perhaps that was because I was taken by the rocks on the side of the harbor. Still a beautiful place (pictures are from 21 April 2020). read more

When hub and I were in town, we planned to see the whole island as much as we could possibly could. This stop right here is reasonably enjoyable but depending on the weather. It was very low tide at the time so the place didn't wow me at the time. I suppose this was the only one area we saw were people had food and snacks. It's a small shop and also a place where you can get beer and cooked food like fish and chips. It seemed like a convenient place to grab some snacks and also a good place to get some information about sight seeing and fishing or whale watching kind of place. The young lady at the front was very pleasant to talk to. It was nice and short stop. Do visit when you are here on the island. read more

Very unhappy at the moment with the lack of oversight at this marina. Today, a fellow boater was allowed to ride his full size piece of junk motorcycle on the docks and up the ramp to the main area. Several people, including mobility challenged, elderly, and children were all gathering there. As I came out of the store with my 2 year old in a stroller and my 4 year old behind me, this man came racing up the ramp and came within two feet of hitting us. He had to stall his bike in order to stop in time. I looked around and everyone in attendance was clutching their chests and asking if riding motorcycles is allowed. Obviously, I was fuming. Once I gained my composure, I went to the marina office to inquire. I asked the gentleman working there if he saw someone riding a motorcycle, and he said "yes". I asked if he saw him almost cream my son in a stroller, and he hesitated and said, "Well...I saw that something happened" and motioned with his hands perpendicular to each other like a collision. I said, "Is that allowed here?". Again, he hesitated and appeared nervous, and stated, "No, it's not, but I told him it's ok because it was too heavy to push up the ramp.". So, in other words, the managers of this marina are ok with jeopardizing the safety of its visitors in order to accommodate some old guy super poor judgement on a 300lb missile made of rusty steel. I'm not ok with that. The office guy gave me some sob story about the man's wife's health, which as a nurse, of course I can sympathize with. I just don't understand how that it supposed to make me feel better about my toddler narrowly escaping severe injury while this guy is allowed to do something clearly so reckless and stupid. Telling me to "try and exhale" results in reviews like this one. If you are looking for a general review on the marina, it's ok. The store is small and adequate if you don't need a lot or much variety. There's some beer and wine, some frozen food, and some soups and things like cereal, crackers, cookies, and toiletries, but it also has limited hours and is sometimes the only thing open and with nothing in walking distance. The food is "ok" but most of it is microwaved from frozen. The ice cream is local and good with big portions. Be warned that if you are here on a weekday, you must be prepared to cook your own food. Most area restaurants are closed, especially if during the week and off season. They have two washers and dryers that cost 2 tokens each and total run time for the combined is 1 hour and 15 min. They have four showers each for men and women, although some are out of order at this moment. It's $2 for 7 minutes and you have to purchase tokens during store hours. The store closes at 6 but the grill closes at 4. They have one toilet on the floating dock down below, but the other toilets and facilities are up the ramp in the main area. Public transportation only runs in the summer during peak season, so be sure to check the schedule online. You can arranged kayaks or whale watching through the barge on the docks, but if you are looking for more to do other than hang out at your boat, like renting bikes, window shopping, having a nice lunch or dinner out, seeing live music, etc., you're better off going to Lopez or Friday Harbor, especially if you have kids that want to do something fun. Also, if you are a techie, their WiFi is very weak and you'll only get one bar at best on the docks, along with zero cell service unless you are by the road. At least the one restaurant within walking distance, when open, is awesome. Island Pie is super good pizza. read more

The Harbor Master did not allow are rental car to be waiting for us when we arrived. I was forced to pay $60 total in taxi service and waist 2 hours of my trip getting and dropping off the vehicle. There is zero reason to block our rental from be there when we arrive. This was also Deer Harbor attacking another business on the island. There is zero reason to not allow a vehicle to be waiting upon arrival. We missed our dinner reservation because of this pointless new rule they created. I will follow up with a call to the Harbor Master. That business practice needs to end. It was an affront to my family and a local business. read more

Nice marina. Two people helped us dock the boat which was nice. They just appeared on our dock. That's always such a nice perk. The store was great with everything I needed (except polish remover, but don't get me going on stupid manicures...). We had the fish and chips which were great. The showers were clean. A little tight but well maintained. If you're a door locker you may feel unsafe or exposed. Also the Deer Harbor Inn (restaurant up the way) was a joy. Watch for the almost twin kitties, Bindi & Dylan. Bindi has the white spot and hangs out with Bambi in the woods (eek!) and Dylan has a stubby tail and is a bit... rounder. Oh. In addition to the wildlife the service is great. I highly recommend making a reservation or going early. read more

Deer Harbor is a can't-miss for boaters with kids! The marina can accommodate boats of all sizes, and we found they had much higher availability than nearby Rosario. Fuel and pump out services, plus 30-amp power and water connections, also gets your boat everything it needs. First stop is the very small grocery on the pier. Despite its size, you can get all the basics, although in small quantities, here, including a number do locally made grocery options. The small grocery doubles as the cafe and fish n chips bar. The espresso is good but not bold, so ask for extra shots. The fish and chips are great, with the fries and onion rings possibly better than the main course. Next, head to the Gift Barge, where you can book a whale-watching tour, and also pay for your moorage while choosing from a small selection of logo wear and toys. In the afternoon, take the kids to the heated outdoor pool, which is free with moorage. But also, don't miss the sandy beach where you can utilize those buckets and shovels to build sandcastles, or play in the shallow water. At low tide, play "Don't get squirted by a clam!" The fish shack closes at 4PM, so for dinner, make reservations at the Restaurant at Deer Harbor Inn, which is about a 10-minute walk along a beautiful country road. It's family-friendly, but nice enough to make the adults feel like you had a special evening out. Raining? No problem, just call for the complimentary limo to pick you up and take you back to the marina. Other than the restaurant and fish shack, there's not a whole lot here for an adult-only crowd. But for having fun with the kids, this marina is a must in all our boating vacations! read more

Good dock staff and quaint location. They've saved my docking bacon a couple of times by being ready on the dock to lend a hand. My ONLY complaint is the Wi-Fi - cellular service can be spotty and the only access to the real world (Wi-Fi) is spotty at best. The little store and café are a nice reprieve from cooking your own and replenishing the wine and ice supply. they've always taken my reservations which is a huge relief. There's not a whole bunch to do but people watching and a dip in the pool are in abundant supply. read more

Excellent service! We came in late and even though there were no numbered slips left they managed to squeeze us in at the fuel dock. The staff was really helpful and went above and beyond, even letting us borrow a power cord so we could reach an electrical box. The store is pretty limited in what they carry. read more

This marina is beautiful. The people are laid back, extremely friendly and helpful. Perfect place to be if you want to get in touch with nature. From whale watching to kayaking to sailing tours it is extremely enjoyable. It even has a pool for the little ones! Give it a try, we highly recommend it read more
