Nice Little Hideaway We stayed here after the main season so the campground was basically closed for the year, but the RV hookups were still turned on. There was spotty cell signal, but having the place to ourselves was epic! A group rented the cabins across the road from us (part of resort) but they were quiet. Stayed here this past weekend with a group of friends. It was not my first choice in the area given I have had good experiences floating and camping with Bear Cat before but a couple of people in the group needed electricity so we stayed at here at Deer Creek Campground. There was about 8 of our people set up in the "loud camping area" and myself, husband and one other opted for the "quiet, tent camping" area. I was a bit concerned when I walked to the loud area and past many floats laying on the side of the road that those were the floats we would use. I put it out of my mind. I will say someone told me that this campground had new owners so perhaps they are getting used to some things and plan to make some improvements if they can but I am basing this review solely on my experience. We paid $69 for our tent space for 2 of us for 2 nights and $86 to do the 7 mile float. We all gathered about 9:45am at the office and were taken to the put in for our float. Before getting into my float I noticed it was taking on water but didn't want to be a pain. I should have said something then but both of the 2 man rafts our group had took on a lot of water during the trip. By the end there was really no where for me to sit that wasn't constantly in water and I was VERY ready to get out and get back to the campsite and change into some dry shorts. Other people floating kept making comments about our rafts throughout our trip. All of our groups rafts were under inflated (4 and 2 man rafts). The river was PACKED with people. I think in the past I have been on floats that left a bit earlier though, so that may have been part of it. Once back at the campsite I showered. Unfortunately, so did another large group. I waited to shower (4 stalls) and by the time it was my turn there way so much standing water in the bottom of the stall I considered skipping it all together. I showered as quickly as I could and exited the shower. There were two drains on the floor in the main bathroom area that water was rising up out of. This did seem to dissipate later in the evening when less people were showering but it was gross none the less. I know this is not the campgrounds fault, but they had a neighbor who must have kept their dogs outside all night so despite being in the "quiet" section, I woke up about 20 times in the night due to the barking from the dogs, and some other nature noises (it was by a pond so probably frogs). The campsites in our quiet section we were told were labeled but there was only about 6 sites we could actually locate numbers on so assuming we were probably some of the few over there we kind of just plopped our stuff down in an area we thought seemed about right. I can say that our Porta potty was fairly clean and we did have a water spigot nearby which was helpful. A few bright spots of mention. They had ice and other items one might need available in the store and though I did not opt to use it, they do have a pool on the campgrounds that I am sure people would enjoy, especially kids and people who may not have floated the river. The people running the campgrounds were all pretty nice and helpful. Another note, just about nature, but basically every person that camped in either section of our group found 1 or more ticks on them so they are very prevalent in this area and if you do camp here please be careful, spray and check yourself often! Place was a good spot until we realized how rude the staff was! We got there and all of the places smelled like mildew. There was cracks in the log cabins and the pool had a broken safety ropes. The bus leaves at 9 in the morning and we didn't leave till 10 an hour later to get on the float bus due to the large amount of family that came with us. Which we were okay with. As we were coming to the end of the float there were multiple stoping points and we were very confused where to get off once we found the "smiley face" we were told to go around the curve to our pick up spot. We arrived at 6:11 while the bus was leaving. The first words that came out of Dustin's mouth was "$40 dollars a person or you guys can leave tonight" with extreme rudeness. He never greeted us about our float trip, how we were. He was just worried about his money. We offered to get a ride and they said they would kick us out. We sat in the sun for 45 minutes waiting for the bus to come back. As we arrived to our site Dustin made sure we headed to the camp store. Which by the way there are limited items there as well as expired marshmallows. That should tell you enough. I paid my late fee and left. My cousin and aunt were the only ones left in the store and the kid working behind the counter told them that "since they had a good attitude then they only have to pay $20". I found this hilarious due to the fact that Dustin had a disgusting attitude the moment we came back from our trip. Also this showed me that they don't have to pay to use a River bank and they pocket the money they make from these floaters. As they made there $400 dollars from a 11 minute late fee. They went home. Dustin didn't stay to watch the camp site even tho he told me he was the owner. They ruined our experience as well as never wanting to return. We spent $1300 to stay in 3 cabins for 3 days. And then spent $400 to get our family back home. They have no care for there campers and I have heard since coming back the same from others. read more

Deer Creek Campground - Cracks in the log cabin - Campgrounds Near Me - Lesterville, Missouri

The family and I needed some time off grid. Found this place looking for a more chill place in the floating area to take my family. Turns out there are options to do both. You can really let loose on one side of the campground and other is super chill. We stayed in a cabin. I was expecting a super primitive shack of sorts (and I would be ok w/ that). The cabin had power, AC, microwave, and mini fridge! The bathrooms were cleaner than my gym bathrooms back in STL, another thing to check my list. Staff were at finger my tips waiting for any requests. They have a good size pool. It was super clean and didn't burn my kids eyes (thats a thing in our fam, I'm sure others can relate). There were other families there that were floating. They said they enjoyed being on the river and being able to "get away" from the crowds. We didn't float but the next time we come down here we will; based on what the other family had told me. I think this place is perfect for a family reunion or something. They have plenty of cabins all AC / power. They have duplexes and a really big one in the middle (not sure why I'd want the really big one but its there). It would be perfect for families . The cabin were were in had a full size queen with bunk beds. I saw they have RV spots there, I'd never use them but they looked like folks were using them. The kids and I walked around and they have tent spots way way in the back. Normally thats our speed. Now I know they have cabins I'm not packing a tent. This place makes it easy for a family with 2 9yr olds. Pack a weekend bag, food, sun screen, river shoes, bug spray...DONE. Ready for a weekend. We loved the place. I think the new management must have changed things since the last review. The main guy there said he had recently bought the place. Nice dude for sure. I know they are still working on things so it'll get better. Next time we will float and I will post an update on that. Oh...the daughter did say they need a tire swing. So there is our main complaint. Go check it out for yourself. read more

My family and I had a wonderful week at deer creek campground. There are new owners and they do a great job, are professional, and keep a clean spot. We spent a few nights in a cabin. It was tidy and comfortable sleeping quarters. The location is great. We were in the middle of some of Missouri's best natural wonders. read more

My family and I have come to this outfitter for a few years. We have always been happy with their friendly service. They continue to update their equipment and facilities. They have great rafts and have decent updated restroom changing rooms. We will continue to float with Deer Creek Campgrounds. read more

UNPROFESSIONAL!!! My family and I floated on the Black River this past weekend and rented two large rafts from Deer Creek. The buses were falling apart (literally) and the driving was absolutely terrifying. The worst part, however, was the pick up - we were told that the first bus would leave at 3:30 - not true. Deer Creek is cheap and made us wait in the heat and stand in the rain until another group (i.e. 2 people) showed up at 4:00. While waiting, my nephew spoke to one of Deer Creek employees and was asked how much we paid for the trip. One employee then said to the other - "we have to be nice to these people, they are paying customers." I'm not sure what kind of business this company is running, but it doesn't sound legit! If you are interested in floating on the Black River, use Twin Rivers Landing instead - I wish we had! read more

Located on the beautiful, spring-fed, Black River, Deer Creek Campground provides cabins, campsites, tent sites, four-ten person rafts, party islands, canoes, tubes, and kayaks. Running water and electricity at the camsites, and kids under 12 stay free. What a FUN day, floating the 7-mile river in about 6 hours, and they provide transportation to and from the launch/pick up points. read more

What a pretty place to pitch a tent and relax with your family! The campsites are big and spacious! They have a pool for the kids to swim in. They offer floating with transportation to and from pickup/drop off points. There was an emergency situation with a child that was bitten by a snake and they reacted quickly and professionally. I would highly recommend them and will be back for our future camping visits!!! read more

Horrible place! Owner and employee physically attacked me, my mom, and my husband for being 35-45 minutes late on their "5:30ish" end. Tried to force us out of river about 3/4 mile before end, which would have been fine except they were refusing to give us a ride! Do not float here. There are many reputable companies in the area that provide great service! We are prosecuting this place! read more

DO NOT USE THIS PLACE... STAY AWAY. This past August our Boy Scout Troop was scheduled to float the Black River with them. We had over 40 people including close to 30 boys. We had a slow start that morning and them had trouble finding the place. Consequently we were late for our float time. We arrived and unloaded all our gear. No one showed up to greet us so we went looking. We finally found the owners who promptly told us that they would not take us because we were late and they did not have time to put us in. We were scheduled for only a 3-4 hour float and it was only 10am!. We had paid our deposit (for everyone) weeks before AND paid in full prior to leaving for the trip. You should have seen the look of disappointment on the faces of these 30 Boy Scouts! There was no discussion to do a different float or anything. They just stood there and told us that they were not going to take us!!!! It was UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE !!!!!! read more
