I received a message from Amanda that felt overly personal and not appropriate for a professional setting. It included emotionally loaded language and a photo request that put me in an uncomfortable position, especially given my history--which the therapist was aware of. When I brought up how this made me feel, the response I received was brief and lacked empathy. It left me feeling dismissed rather than supported. Therapy should be a place where boundaries are respected and communication is handled with care. This experience ultimately did not align with what I need in a therapist. Although I initially felt Amanda understood me and was helpful, this experience is extremely invalidating and has hurt me. I can't say I would recommend her as a therapist. Additionally, I've noticed that Amanda blocked me from her public business page, Peace of Mind Therapy, shortly after I shared my concerns with her. I had not been interacting with her on social media prior to this and had no issues accessing the page before. This action seems to reflect an unwillingness to receive feedback, rather than a response to any inappropriate behavior on my part. As a former client, I believe I should have the right to share my experience publicly--especially since I chose to end therapy due to the discomfort and lack of support I felt. Blocking former clients from a public page after they express concerns raises further ethical questions and feels like an attempt to silence valid feedback. I have since been in contact with her supervisor and because of the nature of this experience and the ethical concerns it raises, I will also be reporting this situation to the South Carolina licensing board for review. Nobody should be feeling the emotions I feel from a so called "professional".

The owner Jen is a wonderful person. She designed the office space, which is very comfortable, stylish, and bright, not clinical/sterile. You should see the kids/art therapy rooms! They are so cute. I see a therapist named Kristin every few weeks to assist with my eating disorder recovery, and I love working with her. I feel like I am treated with respect and care every time I attend a session, and get what I need emotionally.

After months of treatment, we were unexpectedly informed that we owed a significant balance for prior sessions. What was most concerning, however, was how our family was treated during a mental health crisis. On the same day I received a billing message, I called the office because my older daughter had expressed thoughts of harming herself. As a parent, this was one of the most frightening situations I have ever faced. Instead of receiving compassion, guidance, or concern for her well-being, I was told that the practice could not help us because of an outstanding balance associated with my younger daughter. To make matters worse, after a single discussion regarding the balance, I received communication that immediately referenced legal action and attorneys. At a time when my family was dealing with a child's mental health crisis, the focus seemed to be entirely on collecting money rather than providing support or demonstrating concern for patient well-being. The lack of empathy and professionalism was shocking. There was no effort to provide resources, offer guidance, or show concern for a child in crisis. The conversation focused on billing while my family was facing a mental health emergency. Mental health providers work with vulnerable patients and families who are often experiencing some of the most difficult moments of their lives. I expected compassion, understanding, and professionalism. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. Families seeking mental health care deserve a practice that prioritizes patient well-being, communicates clearly about financial matters, and responds with empathy during times of crisis. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this practice.
