The decor is lovely - the reclaimed wooden panels, the rustic chandeliers, the retro lamps, and the comfortable seating, all make for wonderful surroundings. The table we were given (33) was perfect (we had a pram) and we were provided with a high chair. We all had to order different things from the menu and this was not difficult as there are so many lovely things to choose from. Our waiter was friendly (especially with our 7 month old guest) and made us feel welcome. Nibbles - we had halloumi sticks. Very crispy and served with a lovely smokey mayonnaise dip. Starters - bacon and avocado salad. Served in an awkward bowl but otherwise tasty and fresh. Duck salad - tasty but I wouldn't order again. The dressing was very much like a brine, which was odd. Something like soy and sesame oil might have been nice. Squid - delicious. Crispy, not chewy, the lemon was nice. Perfect. Chicken in a jar - one of our Bill's favourites. My husband orders this almost every time. It's buttery and smooth & delicious. Should come with more toast as we can never finish the jar! The chutney that comes with it is also delicious. My favourite part, in fact. Mains - piri piri chicken. This was the best thing I've had at bill's. It was delicious. I don't usually order chicken, but we wanted to try something from the grill and it was too early for red meat. It was smokey, a little spicy, the sides were perfect. Winner. Sea bass - as recommended by our waiter - this was given a 10/10 by our table. Cod & chips - the fish was over cooked but the batter wasn't crispy, the mushy peas were barely warm. But the pickled onions went down well. Overall a good dish. Bill's burger - consistently good. Good that you. Can request it medium or well done. Always well seasoned and this time was no exception. Kid's meal - pita, hummus, carrot sticks, and cucumber - all average fare, our 7 month old guest enjoyed it. A little pricey at 5.95 Drinks - all drinks were fine; pink soda, orange juice, latte, elderflower cordial (maybe too much fruit?) - all good. Overall a great experience and it fits in well with all the Bill's restaurants we've been to before. Lovely atmosphere, good lighting and great waiting staff.

Bill's is new to Maidstone so we thought we would go try it out…read more First of all - the décor and interior is so cute and quirky! From the tiny salt and pepper shakers to the chillis hanging from the ceiling. A lot of attention to detail. The drinks menu looks like one of the best - normally non-alcoholic drinks consist of coke or lemonade but it was nice to see some different variations. One of my friends ordered a pink lemonade that looked so good! There was a rhubarb drink on there I would like to try sometime. I wasn't driving so ordered the Hedgerow Fizz cocktail - it was yum! Would recommend! I skipped starters and went straight in for the main. I ordered the Halloumi and Hummus burger with fries. Delicious and would definitely order again! I do like a veggie burger but sometimes find them quite dry - this was not. This was one of the best veggie burgers I've had. For dessert I ordered a mango sorbet. This was yum but I think I would have liked to have seen a few more flavour options. My sister in law had the mini cinnamon doughnuts with chocolate sauce so I think I will have that next time. All in all - looking forward to going back.

The girls who served us (including Emily who settled our bill) were absolutely lovely, they even apologised for our service profusely and how long we were waiting, as for the manager no words can describe his lack of accountability or even acknowledgement of our poor service. We arrived at 1245, served at the bar brilliantly and were shown to our table with no issues. At 1305 we ordered our starters and mains. Starters arrived at 1350, no check back on our table if the starters were okay. Mains arrived at 1500 (2 hours after we arrived) I ordered the swordfish and it was completely raw. When we arrived we were sat on Table 45 and the table directly behind us Table 40 was undergoing a deep clean and the staff were not quiet and I came to understand that there was a persons sick covered over the table and the window behind us, now I understand why, raw food served up to customers making them sick. I was just lucky that I sent it back. My swordfish was served at 1500 sent back at 1502 and came back at 1510 (god knows how so quickly considering it took nearly 2 hours to come out initially and it wasn't even that busy, literally 15 tables at a push). I managed to get the managers attention before our mains were served, he stated we were the next table coming out of the kitchen to which I explained our waitress (who was genuinely lovely) explained we were the next table to come out 20 mins prior and we'd witnessed 2 other tables of 6's food come out. The manager was so rude and stated because we ordered 3x starters that's why our order was put behind the others. No apology was given he simply walked away after stating we were definitely next. You best believe it.. we were not next. Desserts taken at 1515 when we helped ourselves to the dessert menus, (we were starving so ate the mediocre cold food within minutes). And we left at 1545 when still nothing and no show of anything. We paid £145 for a terrible meal, terrible service, cold and raw food. We left 3.5 hours after we arrived, the manager rolled his eyes when asked the waitress for the bill before our desserts were served as she told him we were paying and leaving. I'm glad I looked at him when she told him because I wouldn't have seen him look at me and roll his eyes. I could have gotten better frozen food from Sainsbury's at 1/5th of the price but we all know we don't eat out for the food all the time we come for the service and yet I've still paid £145 for a god awful service. The girls who served us, it was not their fault and they are a credit to your chain but the manager, well.. is he just a miserable old man waiting for his pension, I think so.. I appreciate restaurants have bad days but rudeness and basic customer service skills from a manager is really not asking for a lot when I've parted with £145 with no apology.

Our group ordered squid (fresh and tender), the cheese plate, auburgine (fried with a sweet sauce drizzled on top) , fried potatoes, meatballs, exquisite anchovies, salad and an omelette. Everything was superb. Highly recommend the churros for dessert (to die for!) My sister lives in Maidstone and I am just visiting but l would definitely return on a future trip. When we first arrived, I was a bit shocked to find an Asian buffet restaurant to co-share the building. But the two were completely separate from a floor and the balcony in the middle was covered to avoid any smell coming upstairs. The place is very simple in its decoration, but of course I'm not here to judge the designer rather than the food which was marvellous. The owner, Clara, is a real Spanish coming from Andalusia, and she manages the restaurant with her family only. We had several tapas, followed by a generous portion of paella, all watered by a jug of sangria. I can only recommend Clara and her place La Taberna.

Stayed April 2015, traveled with friends: "Engineer was on his way, and the staff saved the day."…read more When we arrived, we were greeted by a very welcoming gentleman who informed us that the heat was out but they had an engineer on his way. He gave great instructions on how to use the security key, where our room was, and the times for the dining hall. We took the flight of stairs, were easy to climb and didn't have that many steps to them, but they weren't very wide. Getting the door open, and maneuvering your luggage out of the way, could provide a hazard of falling down the staircase if you weren't careful or under the influence. Our room had two rooms to it, a sitting area and the bedroom. The sitting area had a couch, table, and a fireplace. Off of it was the bathroom. The bathroom was petite and the shower was enclosed by 4 walls. There was an alcove from the sitting room that leads into the bedroom area. There were 2 twin beds, flanking the window, along with a wardrobe, end table, chair, and small desk next to another fireplace. Next to one of the beds was a door, which reminded me of an old barn door. We ate in the dining room, near roaring fire in the fireplace. We shared a bread board starter: rustic breads, served with English herb oil and butter. It was a Wednesday and their special at that time was homemade pies, so I ordered the chicken pot pie and my friend had the cheese pie. Both were equally delicious. Finally, I had creme brulee for dessert. There were actual pieces of raspberry embedded in the custard, which I was not aware of but it was adequate just the same. Our server Jane was incredible. She talked us through all the different sauces, made small talk with us, answered all our questions with ease, was attentive, pleasant, and just an overall easy going person. She informed us that tipping was not required at the establishment, but we - as Americans - felt she deserved one after how remarkable our overall meal and experience was due to her service. We had the complementary breakfast here, and it was the standard Innkeeper's Lodging of: granola bars, yogurt, juices, coffee, breads, fresh fruit, and cereal. You can order off the hotel's menu for an extra charge. All in All, the room was easily spacious for 4 people, had an attached sitting room for relaxation and personal time. The bathroom was lacking but the dining room made up for it. The service was impeccable, and the meal was superb. I would definitely stay here again.

The food itself was flavoursome though two of the mains had quite tough meat. That was probably again due to a lack of staff in the kitchen to keep a close eye on things. To counter that, the Merlot & Steak pie was one of the best pies I have had and I wholeheartedly recommend it. All round, good value (3 courses for £10.50) and we will definitely give it another shot in the future.

You walk in, they seat you, you figure out what you want to eat and then order it an pay for it at the cash register, then sit back down and they serve it to you at your table. They also have all you can drink soda's and all you can eat frozen yogurt which, out of the states, is a hard thing to find.
