Penrice & Son Concrete Services

Penrice & Son did an absolutely terrible job. This company…read morewas unprofessional, irresponsible, and unskilled. 1. Poured wrong concrete. 2 Does not properly respond to calls, texts, or emails. 3. Refused to provide a receipt. 4. Demands payment before the project is finished and then never finishes. 5. Leaves the property full of debris. 6. Arrives unprepared and lacking basic tools and equipment. Kelsey Penrice, the owner presented me with a quote which specified 4000psi concrete. To replace my driveway, add a small walkway,  and add a small 6x8 ft patio. Without telling me, he used 3000psi concrete instead of 4000psi and would not provide me with the concrete receipt. I had to go to the office of the concrete company to investigate and discover deceit. After confronting him with this discrepancy, he claimed he 'forgot'. Further, he claimed that 4000psi and 3000psi concrete cost the same so he would not do anything to make it right. He said that 3000psi concrete was just as good as 4000psi concrete. I have a tough time believing any of this. Seems like a lot of dishonesty is taking place. Kelsey Penrice told me his crew would repair the lawn at the edge, clean up all the forms, and make everything like nice.  However, his crew left piles of concrete debris all over my yard. They left framing stakes in the ground and did nothing to repair the yard.  After I called, texted, and emailed several times, he finally sent someone out to pick up some of the front yard debris but not in the side yard. They never removed the framing stakes that were missed. The crew arrived unprepared and requested to use my tools and my wheelbarrow! This is a concrete company requires customers to provide wheelbarrows? The crew arrived without the proper lumber for forms. They used an old rotten piece of plywood from my backyard to build forms.  The rotten wood did not hold the concrete so all edges are jagged and sloppy. They said it was because I provided bad plywood. Are customers usually responsible for providing forming lumber? As soon as the concrete was poured, Kelsey Penrice demanded full payment for the job,  even though the job wasn't finished until the forms are removed and property is cleaned as was guaranteed. I immediately paid Kelsey Penrice and now the work is still unfinished. Days later the Kelsey Penrice sent complete amateurs to remove the forms and neglected all of the cleanup. They left stakes in the ground and concrete everywhere. Since all the edges of the patio and walkway were jagged and poorly formed, I sent pictures to Kelsey Penrice and asked him to correct them. He ignored me. His son Kelton Penrice would later drive to my house and promised to fix the patio and walkway. He never did.  Instead, days later, Kelsey Penrice came and smeared some random mason or grout all over the edges.  He did not grind the edged. Now the patio looks even worse because the edges are cover unevenly with cracked, jagged, and unmatched grout/mason. I asked many times in writing and in person but they refused to provide a receipt after I provided payment. This was such a terrible experience.  I selected Penrice and Son Concrete Services be I wanted use a local company and because HomeAdvisor presented them as a matching pro.  I am very disappointed that Home Advisors permitted this company to be listed as a professional. I will never use them again and I would never recommend them to anyone.
