Amazing selection and knowledgeable staff. Conrad Decker gives wonderful talks on plants and their care

THIS IS NOT A CUSTOMER FRIENDLY ESTABLISHMENT. BEWARE!!! Being new to the area, my wife and I are doing major work to our home including some extensive landscaping projects. We visited Decker's and purchased a few hundred dollars for planters. We told our landscaper that we saw a beautiful Bird Bath and some other accessories. We wanted him to go to Decker's to select several bushes and trees. It was a rainy week, so the landscaper postponed his trip to Decker's. My wife and I went the following weekend to return 2 of the planters we previously purchased. They didn't match the area where we had placed them. Upon arriving at the nursery's entrance, I unloaded the 2 rather heavy planters from my car and placed them on a cart. I searched for somone since it was also a cold and misty day. Someone finally came out. I had my receipt and mentioned that I signed up for their membership program. After looking at my receipt, the woman said that I could not return the items since I purchased them 10 days ago. She pointed to the small print at the bottom of the receipt that stated items can only be returned within 7 days of purchase. There is no signage anywhere on the premises stating this policy. No one informed us of this policy at the time of purchase. My wife asked if we could just receive a credit since we intended to purchase other material. She was told that their policy did not allow that. I repacked the planters into my car. As soon as we both entered the car, we simultaneously said , "We're not coming back here." I never thought you had to be careful to read the small print on a receipt from a nursery. There are many other nurseries to choose in the nearby area. DO NOT GO TO DECKER'S. read more

The review I posted was in regards to some sad withered dahlia tubers. After getting yelled at by the nasty man with long grey hair, I planted both dahlias in a well drained soil with lots of sun. One dahlia promptly rotted in the ground, no surprise. The other dahlia sprouted to about two inches and never grew larger. Do not buy dahlias from this business. Costco has better, healthier dahlias that flower and grow over 6 feet. read more

In the fall of 2022, we purchased a weeping cherry tree from Decker's. We asked for definitive planting suggestions, which were provided, and we followed. Have been living in East Northport since 1988 and every specimen planted on our property has been planted by my husband and ALL have flourished. In the summer of 2023, I took several pictures of the tree, as the leaves were folding up and off to the nursery I went. I spoke with one of the women who acted as if she knew her stuff. She told me the tree is suffering from drought. I told her we have an irrigation system, she said it is not enough. I was told to use buckets of water and bone meal, which I purchased. We watered throughout the summer as instructed. I stressed how worried I was about the tree and that I did not want to lose it. I was reassured that the tree would be fine. In Spring of 2024 the tree produced some flowers but once done flowering, the leaves were yellowing, folding up and dropping off the tree. Again, back to Decker's I went, this time spoke with Conrad. I had a clipping from the tree and I asked him to come and look at it. I was very concerned that I would lose it. He came by the following day and when I called him for his insight, he told me the tree was planted too deep and that some of the soil around the trunk needed to be removed. Once again, I stressed how worried I was about losing the tree. He reassured me that the tree would be fine. He offered to send a crew to the tune of $175.00 to remove the soil and rise the root ball. Instead, I had my husband do this and after all of this.... the tree is NOW DEAD. I do not have to tell you how upset I am about this. I really think that the issue worsened when that woman told me to flood the tree the summer previously. I think the poor thing died of root rot to the tune of just under $400.00. We are now faced with removing the tree and replacing it. Why would you continue to reassure a customer that they will not be losing the tree, when the whole time the tree was struggling and dying. My son purchased several Leyland cypress trees a few years ago and they completely yellowed, and this was from Prianti. They sent someone out to have a look and replace ALL OF THEM. That is what you do to keep customers. When you are speaking to Conrad, he starts to walk away and talks over you. Customer Service is not their hallmark. There are better choices around, trust me. read more

Deckers always has an excellent and healthy variety of annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs.

I do not know why keep giving this business another chance. Every time I come here the employees are rude. I walked in at 4:30 on Sunday 6/4/23. As I walked in, the cashier while speaking to another employee, yells out "I don't know why people come in at 4:30 on a Sunday, I want to go home at a reasonable time". If you do not want customers shopping at your business at 4:30 on a Sunday, then you should close your business earlier. It says that they are open till 5, I didn't make there hours of business up, why are they taking it out on the customer? This will be the last time I give them another chance, they disappoint with their customer service EVERY time!! read more

Usually have a very large selection of everything you want to plant in your garden. My biggest complaint is their prices. They are astronomical. It's practically a slap in the face. For example, the whiskey barrel planters pictured are priced at over $80 each at Decker's. Just a short drive down to Home Depot they are selling for $45. In a time where we want to support small businesses, Decker's isn't making it easy. Not when you can spend half as much at a big box store. read more

I was excited to go to Decker's yesterday afternoon to buy something special for my garden. When I arrived, I noticed an employee was not wearing a mask. I found an owner and alerted him as the nursery was crowded and there was no social distancing. To my surprise , he also was not wearing a mask. He said if I'm uncomfortable I should leave and told me that I was making a scene. Then persisted in a loud voice.....the whole thing turned ugly fast. The bottom line is he told the police that I am prohibited from entering his property. The nursery is estetically beautiful but...,..what a rip off. I bought a mandivilla the day before this incident at one of their competitors for $70. At Decker's, same size plant, same grower, $115.00!!!!!! Rip off.....don't shop here read more

Today is the last day i will be returning to this nursery. I've been coming here since i was a kid and i wanted to support the nursery . You would think after all the controversy it just faced the employees would be more helpful . I don't appreciate rudeness especially when I'm paying a couple of hundred dollars for flowers . Plants are nice but dealing with Conrad Decker is not. He came to my backyard to complete my $3000 planting job and behaved like a bully. For example, he asked me exactly where I wanted the tree planted. I told him and then when he started digging, he was about a foot closer to the house. When I said this, he angrily handed me the shovel and asked if I wanted to do this myself. Every interaction was tense and angry. I have never worked with anyone this rude. I wonder if he would have spoken to a man this way. I wouldn't buy a dandelion from Decker's Nursery. read more

Have always had good experiences here and a selection that's beat most other nurseries. Not the cheapest but we've had good results from the plants we've bought here, and have found the staff to be helpful. Lots of bogus reviews from last year, so read those with caution. read more

I ordered $74 arrangement to be delivered on a really tough day for someone I love and awkwardly had to fish around the conversation to find out if they had been delivered or not since they never said anything. Finally I embarrassingly had to ask and it turns out that they never even delivered them, even though I ordered and received the confirmation. The day has now passed and I completely wasted all of my efforts. I chose this florist to support a local business and paid substantially more for it, but at least the big chains like 1800flowers actually bothers to make the delivery. Extremely upset and disappointed. ********************* I will say that after I got in touch with them, they did go above and beyond to make it right. They delivered the flowers the next day with an apology note to the recipient, refunded my money, could not have been more apologetic, and even sent flowers to me from a local delivery shop in Virginia where I live. read more

So disappointed in Deckers! I've been buying my Spring, Summer and Fall plantings for years there and two days ago I purchased some mums and ornamental cabbage for my flower boxes. I misjudged the size and when I placed the flowers in the boxes it just Ate them up. Just went back today to exchange for the next size larger. These plants weren't even taken out of the containers yet! Needless to say it was a big deal and they wouldn't exchange the plants for me! It's not their policy! Well, in these times of covid when people and businesses alike are feeling the punch, I would think they would rather take back perfectly sellable plants for a larger sale and a happy customer? That wasn't the case so I went to Home Depot and purchased a few more plants to fill in and called it a day! Sad that they don't care About their customers and I will have to find another nursery who is helpful to their customers! read more

I bought a Siberian spruce from them and when I went to plant it the tree was all apart from the burlap sac and when we called them that day they said it was fine. The tree never grew and all the needles fell off after 2 months, the owner came to my house and spoke to my wife and told her we watered it too much but he would replace it and then a day later he calls her back and said that he thought about it and we had bad soil that he can smell gas coming from my soil, which is bs. I have grown other trees in that spot and no problems, and also said you can come in and I'll give you a discount but couldn't tell us exactly how much. Only reason he said that is bc it's end of season and he can't get rid of his products. I will never recommend them or be back there read more

It's easy to leave a bad review when something goes wrong. There is a reason this place has been in business for as long as it has. We went to a few nurseries before deciding on this one. Negatives are delivery and planting is pricey. But this means you get to DIY! We had an incredible experience here. Ken (I think he is one of the owners or at least a manager), was incredibly knowledgeable and patient with my wife and I as we had NO idea how to start our landscaping design. He explained every plant we had a question about and helped us come up with a design that looks phenomenal in our front yard now. Shrubs and flowers are always high quality and they have many unique ones too. Check them out before being led astray by sassy reviews! read more

Deckers Nursery has just finished making my new garden. Conrad Decker was wonderful to work with from start to finish. We walked through his nursery serval times picking out plants and trees. He knew exactly what would do well in my space. He was a pleasure to work with, kind and always available for a question. I'm a gardener for over 40 years, Conrad knew exactly what I envisioned. He did a design and it was perfect. His crew were hard working, professional and very nice. He spent many hours with me and made sure I was happy! I am over the moon!!! read more

Love the place, always helpful, always have great looking items, not 1/2 dead like I see everywhere else. yes, you pay a bit more, but their products are more then worth the little bit extra cost. been to other places looking for particular items, only to hear, nope, very hard to get, no one has them. Take your money elsewhere. Extremely overpriced. I'm not talking about comparing prices to big box stores like Home Depot or Lowe's but to other local garden centers. Owner is very condescending. Any issues with faulty products purchased here are because "of something you did" rather than just the result of an inferior product. read more

Last Fall we purchased tree from Decker's which was installed by Decker workers. The tree and installation costs were over $600. By late Spring this year we noticed that the tree was not doing well; it had many dead branches. We took a photo of the tree and showed it to the staff at Decker's. Their response was to blame the poor condition on lack of care by us. We pushed back, and finally they agreed to replace the tree. After waiting several weeks, workers showed up to replace the tree. They had the tree out of the ground put then put it back. Conrad showed up and informed us he wasn't going to replace the tree because there was nothing wrong with it. He of course accused us of not watering the tree enough and then insisted that a certain amount of die-off should be expected. He was rude and inconsiderate, and lectured us on treecare as if this was entirely our fault. My husband and I had to ask him to give us the opportunity to speak. He listened only to my husband and argued back to every statement. He only addressed my husband and totally ignored me. My husband and I have had many trees and shrubs planted by different nurseries over many many years. We have never had a tree that looks as poorly as this tree, and we have never, never had to have something replaced. After much push back on our part, Conrad threw is hands in the air and told the workers to put in the new tree. Two years ago we purchased from Deckers 2 small rhododendrons. We planted both in the same area. One thrived and one did not. We showed Conrad a picture and he of course said we weren't watering enough. Again both were planted in the same area and received the same amount of water. Because the rhododendrons were not expensive, we did not pursue the issue. Went here and picked up a few plants for my backyard. All plants in the last week, yea it was hot but i did water morning and night. The plants died. Ive had plants from lowes last longer then the ones from deckers. Maybe it was a bad batch but still wasted 140$ on dead plants. Go else where. Prices are high, employees cant be bothered to help you without being bothered. Lowes/Home Depot best bang for your buck. And quite honestly the plants are good if you pick the right ones. Also not to mention deckers nursery refused to provide parking or let a local fire department hang a flag for a fallen hero. Shameful business, regret ever shopping here. read more

Hands down, the most beautiful nursery on Long Island (if not the planet). It is exploding with life! I take my kids at least a few times a month to adopt new house plants (I am a crazy plant lady) and occasionally a few full grown trees for the yard. Everyone that works here has a smile on their face and couldn't be more helpful/ informed. There is a cat named Sissy that my son harasses and also a bunny rabbit that loves to snack on carrots and apples the staff spoil him with. We also recently had the owner Conrad over our home to evaluate a dying tree and he spent so much time educating us. He went out of his way to go around the yard and help us to make sure our landscaping was getting the best care we could give. I think he possibly helped me save at least a few thousand dollars worth of plants that could have been dying due to not enough irrigation from our sprinklers and also our landscapers planted the trees too low in the ground. Wow is all I can say! Thank you Conrad! He told us they will be hosting some classes at the nursery to help nutty plant lovers like myself get even a greener thumb! LOVE IT and I WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE! Any who, if you are looking for an outstanding, relaxing and beautiful shopping experience, this place is a must see. I have also gotten the most gorgeous fresh floral gift baskets and bouquets for mothers day here and gifts for birthdays. All I needed was a flat of impatiens. Very pricey!!! And then when I was planting them imagine my surprise to find two of the cellos had dirt but no impatien in them. What a rip off. I didn't go back to complain about the empty ones because when I purchased them the lady at the register was acting very busy and overwhelmed, a bit snooty and I figured it wasn't worth my ride there so I just took the hit. Deckers has become my go to place. We decided to take our front yard in a whole new direction and Conrad was happy to come out and make recommendations. We have had some of his men out on 3 different occasions, always polite and professional. We have also made a half dozen more purchases, both plants and large trees. I went to the Oyster Bay Location and had an amazing experience from start to finish! I came in with a loose idea of what I wanted and Susan was extremely helpful. She asked me simple questions and was able to come up with a beautiful design! Susan even helped decorate a hanging display for my new plant. I am beyond thrilled with the outcome! 10/10 recommend!! read more

Decker's always has a great selection and wide variety of plants. Their staff are always helpful and friendly. Everything that I've bought from here has thrived. The only reason this is a 4/5 star review is because is they are a bit pricey, and delivery isn't cheap; however, I am willing to pay the higher price for the excellent quality. read more

I walked into English Country Flowers (owned and operated by Deckers Nursery) in Oyster Bay on a Saturday afternoon in a panic about a last minute very special family brunch I was hosting in my backyard on the following Monday morning. Within minutes, Fran Decker coordinated between her two locations to ensure I had exactly the flowers I wanted for the 7 last minute flower arrangements I needed. The flowers were delivered by 9:30am Monday morning. Stunning is not a good enough word to describe them! They were are so gorgeous and elevated the brunch in a truly beautiful way. My sisters in law squealed with delight when I said they each could take one home and each sent me a photo of how gorgeous they look in their own homes. I am a customer for life! read more

I reached out to Decker's as someone a little new to the area and the customer support was incredible! They were super helpful and responsive through email. I got almost all of what I needed to start a new vegetable garden. They have a wide selection of Non-GMO plants, as well as an impressive array of organic ones! Some stuff was a tad pricier, but for quality, organic products, I'm happy to pay that price. I'm always a proponent for more organic plants, and would love to see them at Deckers, such as broccolini, more varieties of peppers, and spaghetti squash, but I certainly wasn't disappointed by what they did have. I was also in search of hay, which they didn't carry, but they met all of my other soil, plant food, and fertilizer needs (again, with organic options!!). The staff was friendly and helpful, and although the lines were long, they moved easily, especially considering how busy they have been with everyone's COVID home-gardening/improvement projects. Most employees were wearing masks, and those without were not within 6-feet of people and had them ready around their necks. Lastly, The nursery itself is beautiful. I was able to harvest my first round of spinach the other day and I'm impatiently waiting while the tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, carrots, and peppers begin to produce. I have been using Decker's for years and won't go anywhere else. Conrad is a consummate professional, well-read, and has vast knowledge of both flowers and larger woody-plants. Every time I have been at his store he has gone the extra mile to help me, and others in the store. In addition to his nursery experience, I have had him to my property to review several hazardous trees I have. I find his prices to be very competitive with others in the area. Conrad and his staff are always available to assist you and answer any questions, which you won't find at a box store like Lowe's/Home Depot. You get what you pay for and with Conrad and his staff you get the BEST! read more
