go here this place is nothing but fraud. I paid this stuff off after five years first they told me it was gonna be three years turned into five years. I paid it off February 2025. It is now August 2025 and my case is still not closed. Been trying to call every day have not heard back. read more

This place is horrible I do not recommend my legal team changed without notification multiple times they do not respond but if you miss a payment they will threaten to dismiss the case ( which I have never missed a payment) They are horrible I do not recommend. I do plan on filing a complaint. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Do your research and go elsewhere. read more

1000% do not recommend Everything has been terrible first off they start you up the right way give you what you need to do and schedule your meetings and tell you about the second course you need to take. From there it goes downhill you will never talk to anybody else no matter what you need to do then I was just in the hospital for 3 weeks and I missed 2 payments lord knows why did I decide to do that. They called me and harassed me even while in the hospital about the missed payment even knowing that I have not been at work. They have been threatening me saying my case would be dropped from the court which is a bold faced lie because it has already been discharged This place is awful and I recommend you look else where 0 down for sure but you get what you pay for read more

These people are liars and scammers! I am a victim of their incompetence! I urge you to find better representation. They promise you all sorts of things then try to tell you file chapter 7! What!? Brittni Hayes especially! she tried to mislead me about the law and when I challenged her she labeled me hostile - then dropped me as a client. I'm currently filing a complaint and will go to the ends of the earth to see to that the courts and public know what she did! She promised to have my vehicle back in 5 days it she allowed the tow yard to hold my vehicle for nearly a month because she failed to do her due diligence. I had to find the proper people to serve because her lazy tail couldn't gooogle because she was too busy to do the work she was hired to do. You start off talking to regular lawyers once they get your money foriengners who can barely speak english try to call and give you updates. My vihicle was towed in October. I filed bankruptcy in November after they convinced me to do so. Then realized they didn't even know where my car was after I told them over and over. If it wasn't for the fact I have 2 years of law school she would have railroaded me into a chapter 7 - she first tried to get me to convert to a chapter 7 to cover her negligence I refused then she tried to tell me I had got arrested so the automatic stay didn't apply which is a flat out lie I was not arrested and even if i was the automatic stay applies- so i asked her to send me the caselaw she was relying on she never responded- then she lied and said the police told her that I never paid my tow fee to the city when I paid that prior to me even filing I knew she was lying because a commander released my car so I asked her to tell me the name of the person who said it and then she said oh never mind they are now saying you did -- that lady is a liar and needs to be disbarred !!! she intentionally lied about the law to mislead me - that said I never was able to get my footing that the automatic stay provides because I had to get my own car back by researching who owned the tow yard !!! and she lied all the way up to the hearing saying she filed sanctions when she did no such thing! on top of that she dropped me ---- that's ok GOD will repay your evil prejudice soon enough and I'm filing a complaint with every agency I can so I hope you ready - read more

They never answer the phone and do not communicate anything. You call and it plays music nobody ever comes to the phone, it says hang up and someone will call you back but they do not read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! The process has been terrible from beginning to end. The lawyer was very detached, always checked out, seemed as if she didn't want to do her job, excuses on why she wouldn't respond to emails in a timely fashion, and would not even answer the questions asked. Emails had no phone number to lawyer. The entire staff is hard to get in touch with all of the time. They do not properly give assistance or direction during the process. The written directions makes no sense and is not in an orderly fashion for the second debt course. It was thrown together and emailed. The website needed is not clear. The code was at the end to use to pay for it which should be at the beginning. They didn't even advise it was the payment code. The team I worked with made the process scarier and uncomfortable not being available, rude, and not answering question. I would recommend spending money with more professional companies and lawyers. they blow your phone up when they want you, but don't return your calls. The lawyer had some foreign speaking person call for a payment. I did not understand her accent which was a big language barrier. Why would I pay her? No miss lawyer you get on the phone and take the payment. Court date came I took 1 hr and 1/2 off the middle of my day from work they were late by over a hour, didn't acknowledge my presence in the zoom waiting, didn't communicate the lateness and I had to go back to work. I didn't even know if my case would be heard that day. Then the auto reply being your comment comes in less than a minute after you post. Who ever wrote a good review is . read more

James has been amazing, extremely efficient and always willing to talk about the situation. Marcie, The lead attorney, has shown much compassion and empathy. I appreciate that, because there's not much floating around in this world. Everything's a journey, sometimes you just have to wait and see where you end up. It's always good to have someone with you on that journey. read more

Fast response. Great Communication fast service and reliable service! Very helpful. Answer all in timely manner. Very professional!

I too, like many others, was referred to debtstoppers by a close friend. I had decided to look into filing for bankruptcy due to the overwhelming amount of debt I had accrued over the years and figured a fresh start was needed. I pushed through my info, a call was received moments later and I was connected to a lawyer right away. I set up my appointment and I began to feel confident about what I was walking into. The day of my appointment was rocky(February 7th). I arrived without my documents but I was told I could continue with the appointment and to just submit my docs once I got home. GREAT! My appointment was at 1:30. I did not see anyone until 3, and mind you, it wasn't even the lawyer I spoke with on the phone. This particular person was very agitated, impatient and uninviting, but I kept my cool, answered all questions and left still confident about the decision I was making. Once I sent over my document, i received an email from one of the secretary's and I was good to go. I am not sure what happened between then and now but so far, my wages are still being garnished and my car was recently repossessed after I was told that the garnishments would stop and that my car would not be up for repossession. Luckily, I was able to get the car back on my own but the leasing company assured me that there was nothing in their bankruptcy department with my name on it. I kind of figured as much already after having called/emailed both the lawyer and firm in Chicago multiple times in the past few weeks in regards to the next steps and have had 0 luck getting through to ANYONE. read more

Customer Service is horrible at this place. Rude, one of the ladies at the front continued to provoke an argument with me after I told her she didn't have good customer service. I wish that I had done my research when deciding to file bankruptcy. I am now subject to dismissal of my case after 3yrs of payments. This firm made sure to receive its payments first, now it shows that im in the arrears because the incorrect amount of money has been deducted from my payroll since January 2020. I was told today that the error was basically my fault and I should've checked with my payroll to make sure the correct amount was taken out. I didn't complete the payroll deduction form, an attorney did. So now I have to come up with almost 3,000 or have the case dismissed. This agency needs to do better as well as the trustees office! I also received a letter with over 32 clients names and addresses. The letter was in regards to dismissal of bankruptcy cases like mine. I shouldn't know clients information and who has filed for bankruptcy. Don't do business with this firm. read more

I was told to hang up after trying to contact their office. Each and every time I tried to contact someone from the office, I can never get an answer, never!!! I was told that I would not lose my place in line that I will be called back. Well it's been 3 days and I still haven't heard from them. Horrible customer service, unprofessional. I shouldn't have to go into the office just to ask a question. Nobody's that busy to not pick up the phone for their customers read more

My experience with Deptstoppers is GREAT. Mike M. the attorney explained the best bankruptcy for me to file is chapter 13 and the reason being. He was clear and concise with the process. He told me I would be contacted by Marin K., a representative who will further help with the process and gathering of information. Marin was also clear and concise. I am HAPPY with them helping me in my financial situation. Keep up the GOOD WORK! A. Banks read more

This is a horrible company. The people at the front desk are rude. My attorney was not knowledgeable. You can never speak to your attorney. You always play phone tag with paralegals. They are always rushing you through the process once they take your money. Make sure they explain every legal document to you throughly. I had a horrible experience. I would tell any one to go to another company. I can't even give them one star. read more

This is in response to the debt stopped location on 111th and western. I responded under google before and they said their version of events don't line up with mine! They are writing there own reviews for one. Secondly, they "DID" dismiss my case after I paid them over $10,000 with just 2 payment left before I was done! They "DID" change attorneys several times and hid the fact they gave me a paralegal in another country. I too signed up due to them advertising on a African American radio station! I don't recommend! Also they need more African Americans at this location as we make up 90% + of their business! Find a real attorney not money hungry and will "REALLY" help you!!! read more

They always have the nastiest attitudes, they RIP you off and after dismissing my case they manage to send all my debtors letters saying my case is dismissed but failed to send notice to my job which they still took money out, I was told that refunds get mailed out the last friday of the month which is a lie, because now I have to wait for a final audit which my case was dismissed wayyyyyy before that next payment was due and now it's a hassle getting my refund for their mess up, DON'T NOT GO THRU DEBT STOPPERS FOR ANYTHING read more

I am recently out of my bk and I had no issues with DebtStoppers in Chicago IL. The only thing I would ask that they get better on is responding to clients. I have asked 3 times now for my attorney or his paralegal to call me and I have not heard for either of them to date. Their response time is not good at all but other than that I had no other issues. read more

I came to debtstoppers because I needed help and I was in debt. They wasn't very friendly and that's ok because they are lawyers and their menions and I didn't expect more. I told the guy my problems and did all the classes and paperwork. Went before some a-hole so called judge and my ch7 bankruptcy was granted. I even told them that since I'm broke and jobless at the moment I wouldn't be able to pay right away and was told it's ok you'll be on a payment plan. Of course I got behind in my payments and then I started receiving aggressive phone calls from some guy who could bearly speak English. Then all of a sudden the finance company who I got my truck through magically found out where I lived and repoed my truck even tho it was in the ch7 and was wrote off. And of course they stole a lot my stuff and was very nasty, I had to call the police. Long story short, don't use these guys if you don't have to. read more

Do not use this firm, you will be disappointed. If you are Looking for a place to thoroughly handle all of your needs and concerns I would highly recommend selecting another location and company. By the time I was discharged, I felt scammed. Not only did I pay all of my money in a timely manner, I am still finding myself needing to hire an attorney as well as pay more money afterwards because they did not handle my case correctly. The manager here Marci, was very nonchalant about my issue and it has since been very hard to get in touch with her even after I expressed my concerns. I am now needing to go to court behind her associates mistakes. When I went to visit her initially about my issue she even expressed that she would have handled my case differently, so I do not understand why there has been no effort to correct things. I urge you to pick a different route because he will be highly disappointed with Marci and her team. read more

FIRST, I will start off by saying the service of Debtstoppers was good for the first 4 1/2 yrs. It appears when you reach the end of paying off your BK, the firm gives you the runaround and back and forth of the amount owed. I called and left numerous messages with no return phone calls from the attorney or paralegal. The only person that you will speak with is the paralegal. The paralegal JASMINE KIMBROUGH IS THE WORST!!!! She is very condescending and unprofessional. I had considered recommending this firm to others, but that changed very quickly. read more

Horrible customer service! Even after I called & asked if they would be able to give me an enlarged copy of a document for my grandmother, once I got there it was a issue that they couldn't do. Any positive reviews about this company was written by this company. If I could give them ZERO stars, I would. Do not spend your money here! Run! They treat you like a Queen as they're coaxing you to sign a contract with them. Then, as soon as they get that money deducted from your pay check it all changes. I filed a bankruptcy in 2013. I needed to contact my attorney Jaime Torres to send an approval to buy a used car to get to work. I could not contact him or his office. The gas company turned my gas off a year after the bankruptcy was filed, I called my lawyer again. He told me to call the gas company and give them my case number. I thought that was his job but I wound up having to do all the legwork myself. He did nothing!!! The trustee threatened to dismiss my case, I could not contact my lawyer again. Their lawyers are useless. If you have to file bankruptcy, do it yourself. You'll save money. read more
