The carpeted wall goes around the entire rink which is great for us beginners as many rinks don't have the full wall. The arcade is expansive and there is an indoor jungle gym for younger children. My avid skating friend shared that the music played at this roller rink has a better vibe with classic upbeat pop and a mix of newer songs such as Chappell Roan compared to roller rinks that are further north such as the Troy and Waterford area.

Highlights include interactive water features, food concessions, and restrooms. They're open every day from 11:00am-7:00pm. The fun fountain is available Memorial weekend thru Labor Day weekend. The splash pad/fountain becomes an ice rink in the winter months. It's a small open skate rink, no hockey, no extensive skating such as figure or speed. Mostly kids and not really worth the journey. Unless of course you love strapping the blades on for an out door effect. The lingering winter months have created the perfect atmosphere to spend quality time at the City Square Ice Rink. A positive experience for friends and family awaits you. Especially, if you enjoy the outdoor element. As close to a pond as living in the city will allow. There are different levels Of instruction, for instance the beginners focus on the initial basics. The more advanced skaters focus on proper form, technique and goal preparation. I didn't get there but they have pick-up, drop-in hockey and my son has attended hockey camps here. Only 2 of us needed to use the rental skates included with the open skate. The skates handed to me were extremely dull, I tried them on the ice, then went to switch them out. 3 groups of people were waiting and no one was servicing us. One man yelled back toward to office to see if he could leave some skates. Finally the same check in guy from before answered. I then asked if there was someone to switch my skates. He grumpily came over, I told him the pair I was turning in were very dull, and he put up another pair. I felt those and told him. His response, "it's what you get with rental skates." Rude.

They do lock-in skating events usually during holidays mostly. There are tables for the folks that aren't skating and they have Wi-Fi and a parent room that's quieter. Two seat high tables along the fence for the minor kids and a bunch of random couches by the main entrance. The parent room provides a bit of shelter from the constant noise of wheels rolling over metal plates at the top and bottom of a ramp. The interior is a big open warehouse. Fenced in for the skaters. Not fancy, but lots of different ramps for skateboarding, rollerblading or for razor scooters. My nephew wanted to try out every ramp to see which one was to his liking. Do bring a book, noise canceling headset and maybe a phone charger too. If you need snacks, Kroger is just across Stephenson and Penn Station subs just a half a mile away. They do have some snacks in the 3 vending machine. Probably a bit more fun coming with friends. My nephew felt a bit comfy after a half hour of getting the lay of the land. It can feel a bit chilly in the warehouse. My nephew said there's some fun ramps and runs, he was getting toasty running around some. Not me. He walks some and studies them ahead of skating to see what's on the other side to make sure there aren't any stairs on the other side of a ramp. My nephew likes the two half circle ramp with the flat landing in between. He also enjoyed the bowl, which has a slope to enter it.
