I love Yelp! Once again I found an outstanding honest hardworking company that really knew their stuff. A tenant's heating airconditioner unit and blower basically died after 20 plus years. Even with the extreme heat, Dean's crew got a new unit in one day and had it installed. The space they had to work in was so small they had to take apart the old unit to get it out. Then they had to take apart and rebuild the new unit one piece at a time to get it into the small space. No extra charge for the extra time required. I chose this company because of the excellent reviews, however I am very disappointed. I was having an issue with the heater and the repairman stated the unit was fine and just needed to be cleaned. I paid for the cleaning and the heater went out 2 days later. When I called the company, the repairman came out and stated my heater was old and needed to be replaced. I was very upset by this because I paid for the cleaning which was a waste of money. I spoke to the Owner about this and he began to yell and over talk me and stated I had a 3rd problem with the heater, and stated if I didn't like it find someone else to do the repairs. The Owner was rude and they did not fix the heater but happily took my money without offering a solution to the problem. read more

Company is excellent. My heat wasn't working, they came the next day. Owner got back to me within an hour for scheduling too. My fix was simple, didn't have the heat turned up over room temperature for boiler to start working. Daniel didn't even charge me because of the quick fix. I work for the company in CA Headquarters. We initially used Dean's Service to help us install 3 Nest thermostats along with a maintenance job of our 3 HVACs for our Delaware commercial office. They did a wonderful job with this that we decided to get an annual maintenance contract with them. Fast forward 6 months later, we called them to schedule our second maintenance call. The guy who came out to look at our HVACs did a wonderful job. So I want to say kudos to the people out on the field doing the work. They were great. The reason for the 1 star review was my terrible terrible terrible experience with their back office (billing and customer (dis)service). Not just once, but twice. And each instance unfortunately involves a guy named Daniel, who claims he's the manager. You see, when we first signed up for an annual maintenance contract, there was this huge mixup about how to make use of the system (HouseCall) where they seem to use for tracking agreements, invoices, and payments (or not). When the agreement came through on HouseCall, I reviewed and signed it. Afterwards, there was a second step of the flow where it allowed you to make payment. So payment was made directly there. Make sense that everything was done inside right? Wrong! Apparently, I learned later after Daniel's long rant/lecture and yelling that they do not use HouseCall to take payments. If that were the case, they should never give user the option to make payment and disable that feature within HouseCall. But no matter because it appears to be my fault that I made payment inside HouseCall when I was presented the option. Afterwards, they couldn't find out how to refund this from within HouseCall, so this issue was resolved by them mailing out a check for the duplicate charge. Fast forward to 6 months later when our office manager called to schedule our second maintenance. A whole new set of confusion and misunderstanding happened. Due to this, our office manager had to get yelled at by Daniel. Throughout our entire experience with them, it boils down to two things: 1. The technicians are great. We do love their thoroughness and professionalism. 2. The billing side and office manager Daniel were not so great. Probably the rudest and most disorganized people we have worked with in this region. My recommendations and suggestions for improvements are the following: 1. Treat people with respect. Please do not start calls by yelling and ranting off on the customer like Daniel did. Be patient and take your time to explain. I'm sure this will get denied, so we do have a recording of our most recent conversation with him. Too bad we can't upload it here though. 2. Educate on the difference between the words "agreement", "invoice", and "receipt". They do not mean the same thing. Please make sure not to confuse them as it certainly confused me on how the words are being used. 3. Make sure that everyone is trained on how to use the system, ie. housecall. Based on how things were done in Housecall, our "invoice" was written as a "Commerical Agreement" (yes, that's a typo) with one visit completed. In actuality, it was really more of an invoice and what was done and billed. Based on their billing manager, this was entered incorrectly by the previous person who worked there. Due to all this misunderstanding and confusion, which conveniently isn't their fault but ours, we ended up having to make another payment for their service. 4. Do please get someone who can type or enter data properly. Typos look horribly unprofessional. In our case, it's worse. They mispelled our company name. Due to that, we had to go through many hoops just for them to find our maintenance "agreement". Overall, the front end technicians know what they're doing. The backend office personnel needs a bit of work on their interpersonal skills. read more

Edit: The reply is proof of the type of service you will get when working with Dean's. Also manager stated that the owner would call me on a certain day, which proved to be a lie as I never received a call. Again, self explanatory here. Short answer: Manager has no customer service skills. Tells customers that they are just trying to extract money from his business when he has no clue how to run a business. Expect to get hustled and pay for a brand new unit. There will be no explanation for why certain parts are broken rather that they are just "not functioning". Long answer: I did not have cool AC in my apartment. Air was blowing out of the central unit but it was not cold. Technicians came to look at the unit. Determined that the central AC was working properly. When it came time to look at the outdoor unit, cited that the compressor and fan was not working properly. Quoted 2 options: either repair both parts for ~700-1200 each or replace the unit. Get a call later from the owner that they will not repair either part and quote was around ~4600. Hired another technician as I needed a second opinion. Turns out the compressor and fan work properly and the fan was stuck. Also if you ask Dean's what was wrong with the unit, they have no clue what is wrong with it. Would not cite an actual issue, just stated that the compressor was bad. Yes - I was contacted after posting a negative review and received a partial refund (which I was nice enough to do). After discovering that the unit indeed works from the other technician I hired, I wanted the full amount back, which I did not receive. There are many other companies out there who are doing honest business. Dean's is not one of them. What was a few hundred dollar fix could have been a few thousand dollars if I trusted Dean's. read more

We have called on Dean's Service twice since we purchased our home 1.5 years ago. On the first visit we received the unfortunate news that we only had backup heat and not a true heat source so we were basically trying to heat our home with a toaster. We also had no air conditioning due to an old leaking AC unit. Thanks to a deceptive previous homeowner and an inept inspector, this became our costly problem. We conveniently found out about the AC problem during a heatwave. When Dean's started to troubleshoot, they uncovered way more issues than expected. I can't even begin to describe how complicated this project was. What we both thought would be a standard job had to be solved in 3-4 (maybe more) visits of working in 95+ degree weather. I give them a lot of credit for the amount of unexpected effort that was required and for making sure the job was done right. They also honored the original quote, which completely blew me away given the amount of time that was required. We have now been through a Winter and another very hot Summer with no issues. We just called on them again after realizing that our clothes dryer was venting directly into the closet instead of going outside. This was something the inspector discovered when we were buying the home and the previous owner claimed he fixed it. Surprise, he did not. Not only did Dean's get out to us quickly to get the dryer venting outside, but they also uncovered a very unsafe situation where our dryer is venting directly under our roof deck setting us up for all kinds of issues... most unsettling being a house fire. Unfortunately, I don't remember the names of all of the gentleman who came out for the initial AC/Heating call but they were all polite, professional and hardworking. I'm actually surprised that they would even come out to our address again given the complexity of the first visit! Keyon was on both calls for our dryer vent and he didn't give up until he found the problem. He made sure I knew exactly what was going on and showed me where the problem was. Most importantly, he identified a potentially dangerous problem that we will be addressing immediately. Overall, Dean's responds quickly and won't leave you hanging with an unresolved issue. Sadly, this is really rare to find anymore and deserves to be recognized! read more

Daniel and his team were great! We had called them to trouble shoot our finicky AC. Of course when Daniel showed up the AC would work, and as soon as he left it stopped working. He suggested we take a video of the unit when it acted up again. Which I loved! Avoided me taking off work again for a service call. Daniel was able to recognize our current condenser was not the right size for our unit and switch it over the to correct size. Figures crossed everything appears to be working. Daniel said he will follow-up in a week. We also used their team to scrub our returns and vacuum our vents. I think Daniel had called to squeeze us in today as there was a bit of scheduling mix up. But it was obvious that Daniel and his Team were trying to make it up and did not go unnoticed. Tyron came to clean our vents and he was thorough, quick, and friendly. They worked vigorously, professionally and also were very pleasant to hold conversation with. It's always great to see two young men working and helping people, like myself, with home improvements. Heater acting up, so I looked on the internet for a local company with good reviews, and found Dean's Called on a Sunday and they scheduled me for Monday afternoon but then called and said they could come earlier which was OK with me. Their technician, Daniel, came out, looked at the heater & thermostat, easy fix and ONLY charged me for a service call. Everything working great. James and his partner arrived earlier today, on time, and they were fantastic! Extremely informative and they kept me involved throughout the cleaning/inspection process. They were both polite, put on slipper covers for their shoes, and even asked for my permission prior to going into any room for a thorough cleaning. There was an issue with my dryer pipe and I was able to talk through options with James - he wasn't quick to jump to any conclusion that immediately meant for him (Dean's Service) to come back and fix it, or pressure me into making an immediate decision. It means a lot having someone that actually provides you true advice and even offers to have you do your own research prior to rescheduling/calling again. Even if I were to find a cheaper or more efficient way of getting the work done, I won't, as I trust Dean's Service and believe they are providing the best quality work. So very glad that I had contacted Dean's Service after I read the rave reviews on Yelp. From the first telephone call to the moment the technicians left my house it was A1 all the way. I called up and spoke to Daniel who was most courteous and reviewed the various options with me. We determined the work required and scheduled an appointment. Keyon and Andy showed up on time and went to work. They were very professional, knew what they are doing and explained the process as they went about their job. They cleaned all the vents (they badly needed it) and ultimately needed to scrub them too. They also cleaned the furnace because it was pretty scruffy. All work done without making a mess, very clean workers. They gave me a very fair price and now I am good for 3-5 years. The people who came to my house to clean air duct were very nice. I was really happy right after I got it done. I spend about 260 dollars to clean the whole house. It's been less than 24 hour after the cleaning. However, I still have dusts coming out from the vents. I called the office and asked them about it. They said I have to make another appointment for the guys to come and check and clean again. Most importantly I have to pay again and only thing they can do for me is to give me a 10% discount. I am very upset. I would rather call Stainly Steamers to do air duct cleaning. They are about the same price but they c move, cover, and clean your carpet if you get air duct cleaning service. And I bet they will come and check your house for free if they didn't do the job right. read more

This is the first time i've ever left a review online for anything but I want to make sure people know what they may possibly getting into with this company. Short version, they blatently lied about what was wrong with our air conditioner saying it needed so many repairs that it wasn't worth fixing. They tried to sell us a new unit saying it would cost around $7,000.00. We decided to get a second opinion since our unit is only 8 years old. It turns out that our unit only needed 1 small cheap repair, $180.00. Not only that, it appears they tampered with our unit to make it seem broken. Longer version, We originally called them because our unit wasn't working correctly. It needed to be cleaned, they did that. Days later it wasn't cooling very well so we called them back. They came back and said there was no freon left in the unit and that it was frozen inside. I was told it would need to defrost for 24 hours before they could fill it up. This was all during a major heatwave in August. I have 3 young children at home and it was awful being in our house with no air and temperatures in the 90's outside but figured it had to be done. They arrived the next day and did some "leak tests" which is when they dropped the bomb that we needed a new unit. Our air wouldn't even turn on after that. We even called Dean's later to ask how to turn it back on to at least cool the house down a little, even if it wasn't working right because our kids were miserable. They gave us directions but it still wouldn't turn on. My husband and I called another company who came out the next day. The guy took one look at our unit and suspected that something wasn't right with what we were told. He asked I would like him to simply fill it with freon, see how long it lasted and then go from there and in the meantime we would have air. I agreed to try that and a few minutes later he informed us that out unit was completly full of freon and that the valves had been turned off to make it seem like it was empty. The only reason I waited weeks to leave this review was to make sure our air conditioner was actually working properly with just one tiny repair. I am appalled that these men had such low character that they stood there and lied to my face about needing a new unit while my children were dripping sweat and miserable. The only positives that came out of our experience with Dean's is that we were able to have a good conversation with our children about what it looks like when people are selfish and don't consider how their actions affect others. Also, we found another reliable HVAC company to use in the future. I will say that my husband did call Dean's and confront them and they immediately refunded what we paid for the leak test. In fact, the man he spoke to didn't even seem surprised and asked no questions which spoke volumes. read more

I had a really bad experience. When the worker came he quoted how much it was, which turned out being a much higher amount than the quote my partner had received. At the end I checked with my partner and found this out. They talked on the phone about it and the worker said he had shown me pictures of the inside of the ducts and explained the price. None of that had happened. We were forced to pay because it was his word against mine and I was not going to argue with two men in my house by myself. They blatantly scammed us, and definitely felt they could do that because of me being a woman. Would not recommend especially if you are female presenting. read more

The minute the techs walk in they asked me about scrubbing my vents and told me it would be an additional charge. The invoice that was sent to me had scrubbing listed like it was included. Why would a company put something on an invoice if it was not included? I asked the workers to leave and they were very respectful and nice. I feel bad that they have to be the face of a company that would use these tactics to make more money. The owner knows exactly what he is doing and should be ashamed that he operates a business in this way. Okay. I have to say. I do not know where to start but let me itemize the service for you so you can keep up. 1. When i send out a request for quotes, I got timely responses. I had a lot of questions and they happily answered. On top of that they made arrangements to be at my place early the next morning (earlier than typical of businesses) because of my wonky schedule which i appreciated. 2. The Technician was as nice as they get! My dog fell in love with him immediately and would not let him out of his sight. He took the time to go around the house and tell me what needs to be done and what can wait. He explained things to keep an eye on for the long term and gave me a quote for things he recommends doing without applying any sales pressure. 3. He notices rodent poop in some ducts and vacuumed them out. He sprayed a gallon of organic disinfectant and did not charge me for it. All work was completed in less than the estimated time. If I had to review in one sentence (A little too late now). He cleaned my HVAC vent like he was cleaning one at his own house; very thorough and without shortcuts. I was beyond impressed with the timeliness and professionalism of this company. I requested a quote on Yelp on a Sunday during the winter warning because my heat stopped working. I sent the message in the morning an within 30 minutes I had a message back and within 45 minutes I had scheduled a service for two hours from that moment. On a Sunday! The second company repaired my issue for only $400. I also called around and found that Dean's proposal to replace the system was about $1,000 over others. As a notoriously difficult to please customer, Ben, Dean's Service representative went above and beyond my expectations. A clogged tunnel resulted in a huge loss of air flow to the second floor, the hottest floor in the home, and my roommates were not happy. 30mins after Ben cleaned the duct, adjusted some piece of metal, and installed a washable (never has to be replaced!) air filter, my home feels MUCH cooler throughout. Post renovation, I'm bringing Ben back to thoroughly clean the furnace and ducts. Really couldn't be happier with the service and the price. read more

My initial reason for contacting Dean's was because my furnace was broken but then I figured my air ducts haven't been cleaned in at least 8 years so I should take care of them. These guys are awesome. Came out last week within 12 hours of us contacting them on yelp, fixed our AC unit and explained in detail the charges for the service and parts. Fast forward a week later, there was an issue with that same unit - came out literally within 2 hours of calling them (late on a Friday evening mind you) and fixed it within 20 min with no charge. The issue may or may not have been related to the work done (no way to know) but either way, the fact that they were extremely polite (both in person and on the phone), ensured that we were taken care of with the unit they worked on, priced reasonably, sent a very knowledgeable technician, and were very quick to respond, I'd recommend them to anyone. read more

I hired deans service as part of a group contract to install vent guards for our house. The technician were professional and installed the vent. However they only installed one instead of 2. When I reached out to them they said everyone was given an option of installing 1 vs 2 vents which Was never communicates to me. When I asked if they can place the second vent they were unwilling to negotiate on price even though the fault tested on them due to lack of communication. I'm leaving a review because communication and customer satisfaction are as big a part of service industry as technical skills. I hope they will improve with this feedback. read more

I would definitely recommend Dean's Service. My heater wasn't working on a Sunday morning. I reached out to Dean's, left a message and Daniel called me back quicker than any other company. He was able to send someone out a few hours later. I was very thankful since most companies were closed on Sunday. Coby actually arrived sooner than originally planned.
