Great spot on the westside of Cincinnati. We came in for the Bingo Night, curtesy of Last Call Trivia (which, by the way, is a fantastic way to get to know different parts of the city and different venues). The crowd was low-key and friendly. It felt very comfortable and relaxed, like a neighborhood bar should be. The added bonus is the outstanding bourbon selection and very fair prices. My SO is a serious bourbon drinker and he was floored. Very impressed. We indulged in some top shelf bourbon while playing bingo and had an excellent time. Also, we meet and chatted with both the chef and proprietress, who are very cool, down-to-earth and friendly. It's nice to know you can get to know the people who make the magic happen. read more

Cheviot's coolest spot is Dean's. It's a bar with a large selection of local beer and wine, and alcohol in general. They have lots of daily specials. It also has some food. The staff is quite friendly. Bars in this area usually are hillbilly bars that play country. It's different here. This bar has more variety than many in trendier areas. It's nice to be able to find something for everyone's tastes. I had a vodka and ginger ale. This was about $3 for a strong pour. It was refreshing after being in the heat. They seem to know their stuff, so they can give recommendations. I am not often in this part of the city. It's because there hasn't been much interesting going on. My husband and I stopped by Dean's on the way home after dinner. We had had good cocktails in the past. I'm not sure how this business stays open anymore. They do have a great selection of bourbon and tequila. On Friday night there were about 10 people sitting at the bar and some more sitting outside on the patio. It appears that they do not have live music anymore as the dartboard was moved up to the stage. Our drinks were fine but they need a bouncer for certain clientele. An older gentleman came in and was bothering everybody. He came to our table and was obviously under the influence as he smelled strongly of Mary Jane and was slurring his words. He then proceeded to sit down at the table with us. That prompted us to quickly finish our drinks and leave the bar. I don't think that we will be back unless they add some extra security to keep patrons from annoying guests. read more

I seriously can't believe this place is still open. a few years ago, they changed the amount of my credit card receipt after I left. Changed it from $18 to $25. Said it was a "mistake". Funny how no other businesses do that. I wonder how many other people have been scammed by this place and never checked out their bank statements? The owner told me I was "crazy" for making a big deal about it and expecting her to give me my money back... Guys - it's time to give credit where credit is due, the west side is cool, and Dean's Hops & Vines is just a small part of why it's so great. This bar and bottle shop is huge with an amazing selection of not only great local craft beer, but realllllly unique and interesting finds from all over. I am kicking myself because I could not remember the name of our bartender, but he was extremely knowledgeable and guided our group through the menu and a few tastings as we picked out what we would like. I loved that he didn't judge based on anyone's preferences. You looked down the bar and saw every different walk of life here. Some drinking hudy, some drinking woodford, some drinking Rhinegeist, and then there is me drinking champagne. Which brings me to my next point, holy bourbon batman! This place dubs itself Hops & Vines, and it's easy to be distracted because of how many awesome choices they have but then, on top of that -- they have an ENORMOUS bourbon selection! If you're a bourbon connoisseur stop and and check out their selection you will not be disappointed. Loved the selection. Loved the service. Loved the darts. However, did not love the mess and thus the -1 star. We came by on a Saturday night, and even though the bartender (who was working alone) apologized for the mess, it did take away from our experience here. I feel like I can't ignore that and have to be honest that it smelled like sweat and stale alcohol. There were piles of sticky cups stacked on top of each other and I ended up cleaning a ledge off myself so we could have somewhere to stand without the smell invading us. Hopefully this isn't an every weekend night thing, and if it is, maybe one extra staff member could have done the trick here. It won't deter me from coming back for a visit, but I will probably not venture over on a weekend again. 4 solid stars. read more

Okay, so the staff is starting to recognize me here. But wait- it really does say more about this place than it does about me! I'm one of those losers that 'doesn't like bars' and here I am, picking a bar to hang out in when I want a quiet night out of the house. I usually go during the week when it's not too busy, sure, but still. Mostly I go for drinks in the nice atmosphere, the staff is friendly and helpful and gives good drink recommendations, and I can either sit at the bar or in a dark corner, depending on how broody I'm feeling. The food that I've tried (pasta, bacon, tacos) has been really good for bar food, too. While I'm not usually found hanging out during trivia or any small concert, I have enjoyed my experiences here and will absolutely be dragging in more poor unfortunates. Especially if they're buying. read more

Somebody needs to do something to drive the average star rating of this place through the floor. One lady at the next table over ordered a Ruben and got a burger. They were frustrated. So were we. The watered down drink one of us got seemed to pair well with the flat beer I was handed. How long does it take to put together a quesadilla? Explaining to me your cook had to help out at another bar you own doesn't help me. Give up on food service or figure it out quickly. Otherwise you'll be just another place that tried and failed. The manager eventually decided to "comp" our food. That seemed like a decent idea. But 40 minutes to slap together a quesadilla? I'm not a Westsider. Enjoyed everything but the bartenders there on 6/23/17. The bar was busy but... I had been waiting to order 2 beers and couldn't get any attention for 5 minutes. Finally got the girls attention but only as she just finished pouring herself a wine and said I can't help you. The guy passed me up for people on either side of me for another 5 minutes so I gave up and asked for my check. That took another 5 minutes and a little yelling because the guy would not pay one once of attention to me. My wife watched the whole thing and finally had to put the guy in his place when he denied. When we walked in we were talking and a girl smoking by the door said she was the bartender. We waited at the bar a few minutes for her to finish smoking and she proceeds to make a call. The musician made an announcement people needed drinks. Once she came bar to work i asked for a guinness and was told they don't sell domestic's so i said what about corona- she said those arnt considered imports. I glanced at the can and bottles which were locally made in cincy. I tried the Riesling and it was great. $6 a glass not bad. Great entertainment. read more

Stopped by last night for a drink and dinner. The beer was definitely not as cold as it should have been from the taps. The food was less than okay but edible. That's not the only reason for the stars (or lack of) its because all of the employees were drinking on the job. Not just the ones working upfront but also the cook. Very unprofessional for any establishment! The only other person in the bar was over served and literally fell off his barstool. Will not be back. read more

I'm giving this 4 stars only because I don't feel like I spent enough time here to give it 5. My boyfriend and I were looking for a place nearby to have food and drinks. Him and I like to think we are beer connoisseurs, so we love trying new beer. Siri suggested this place to us, so we made tilde 1.6 mile trip. I also love a great wine, and when we walked in the walls were lined with bottles of wine! We sat, decided what was to drink and reviewed the menu. The food menu is quite small, BUT it was very tasty. The decor is nice and the place is clean. The staff was friendly and all smiles. I'm very much looking forward to having a girls night here. We all love wine and this will be the perfect place for a nice quite night out. read more

Sometimes this place gets too crazy on weekends, so I tend to go there during "off nights" or late afternoons. I love their beer selection both on tap and in the coolers, and also apprecaite that if you can't read what the beer is in the cooler, the bartender will let you come behind the bar to check it out. The bartenders are well versed in what they're selling and the crowd is a good mix of those who like craft beers. Caveat for those who think they can find beer from the mega breweries (Miller, A/B) there - they ain't got it, so don't ask. I have witnessed folks who have come in, asking for a miller, been told they dont sell it and watched those folks promptly walk out. A shame that they don't want to try something new, but the line is that much shorter for me i suppose! I do wish they'd carry Hudepohl there though and more of the old cincy breweries like Little Kings (yea, I said it) - that might be a good way to bridge the divide. They usually have beer reps come in and do special tasting nights. I've had mixed results with it - the guy from a Cleveland brewery was super friendly and has his act together, the other girl from Goose Island, not so much. That being said, I dig that they do the tastings period and know they have no control over the folks from the distributors who staff it. 1-2x/mo they have "Bourbon and Bacon" night on Wednesdays at the bar (usually there's an event created on their FB page for it) and that is just plain awesome. The last time i went, i didnt bother with the bourbon - it was HOT out and i just wanted a cold beer - but the bacon. Man, the bacon. They had two kinds and each kind had a flavored rub on it which was just lovely. I've eaten some of the food there, and its definitely a step above standard bar fare, but right now I am hoping more than anything that they get their kitchen staff in order and OPEN FOR BRUNCH ON SUNDAYS. Excellent selection of craft beer and bourbon. The best part was the friendly and knowledgable bartender who talked to us about beer and other local establishments. Some of the newest cafés and bars in downtown and OTR could benefit from a refresher course in the importance of front of house service (I am looking at you Cheapside cafe!) Maybe they could make the quick trip over to Dean's to learn a few things. Dean's Hops and Vines has a cool vibe, great selection, and a chill and friendly bartender. We will be back! read more

Being a single gal I usually do not go to a bar by myself but had been here a few times and had fun. Was in the area and stopped in to have a few drinks. The bartender could not of been nicer and more welcoming. He chatted me up a bit and answered all my questions about the drinks. The owner came in and sat with me and bought me a drink. The westside has been waiting for a place like this. Bartenders are very knowledgeable and there's a solid wall of bourbons to choose from. Go for a flight, get out of your comfort zone, and check out something different. If you're not a bourbon person though, Dean's carries a great selection of craft beers - most in the can/bottle, but a few on tap. Would definitely recommend checking this place out! read more

We had a blast at Deans last night. Frank was awesome and we had a very large group arrive and by large we had 40-50. Frank kept our glasses full which was no easy task and he engaged in conversation ... Several of us closed the place down. My boyfriend and I come to this bar about twice a week whenever Alex is working the bar, he always has gave us wonderful service along with knowledge of all of the different craft beers they have on stock. But tonight was a whole different story, the owner Troy, is one of the most unprofessional business owners I have ever met. He was clearly intoxicated tonight while he raised his voice and threw his arms at the bartender Alex right in front of a whole row of customers clearly making the atmosphere very uncomfortable. Not only that but he mocked and harassed the customers!!! The two guys sitting next to us were minding their own business while he tried to claim them of "talking shit". The owner also called the two younger ladies near us "bitches" and gave them the finger after they expressed how Alex was an excellent bartender and they were at the establishment because of his service. Dean's definitely lost a bunch of service and I will definitely express to any people who attend bars in Cheviot to not go to this bar. They barely had any service there anyway before Alex worked there. Unless you're a fan of a boss who treats their employees like shit then please don't waste your time. read more

We really love having such a cute place here in Cheviot, and are always pleased with the craft beer and wine selection. Have never tried the food, though it always looks and smells delicious, and prices are reasonable on both food and alcohol. My only reason for giving it 4 stars is because of the service. We always loved Jon the bartender...he was knowledgeable and friendly. However, we were sad to hear he's no longer working there upon our last visit and unfortunately the service was nothing like before. The first bartender I spoke with was not overly friendly and didn't know anything about the beers. The second was constantly on her phone, smoking or at least not paying attention to waiting customers. My husband stood at the bar for 10 minutes and there were no more than 8 people at the bar (not ordering, just sitting). I finally had to go up and get her attention. I'd hate to stop going here because it's a cool place, and close to home. That said, they're going to have to do something to bring the service up to where it used to be.... read more

I happened to check my credit card statement and found out they rounded my bill up to $25. (It was only $16 and I added a $2 tip). I contacted them via Facebook and was promised a refund but never got it. So I wrote a review telling them that they were basically stealing from customers. She told me she'd mail me check but never did, so I contacted her again. The owner finally called me and told me I had mental problems because I was so worried about $7. I told her I wasn't worried about $7, I was worried about someone who thinks they can get away with stealing from me - or stealing from other customers who don't check their statements. I still have my receipt but I never received my $7. I am only posting this so everyone knows to check their bank statements if you use a credit/debit card at this place. read more

Relaxed place with darts, TVs for sports viewing, oh and incredible choices and selection of craft beer and a helluva lot of bourbon. Well done space that's just the right size. Bartender knew the frequently changing stock really well and was warm, attentive and low key. Saw food on the menu but yet to try anything that wasn't brewed. Stop by this place on my way through town. I read all the good reviews. However nobody said anything about the amazing food. Hit a couple other spots in the area. Went back there after realizing what a Diamond in the rough this place truly is. Every craft beer that you could imagine, all the best whiskeys. They even had my favorite tequila Pasado. We used to have great experiences here but the last two visits have not been good. The beer and bourbon selection is unmatched on the West side, so it's a great place to try different crafts and bourbons if you're into that sort of thing. I love that there is now a bar in Cheviot with a more downtown-ey, hipster vibe. It was about time. I hope that this place helps the area turn around a little. Great selection of craft beer, friendly staff, good live music. Easy access to the free parking lot across the street. They also have tapas! If you use your credit card at this place, check your statement because they may steal your money like they stole mine. We had a $16 bill, I signed the receipt and gave a $2 tip. The next month, I see they put thru a $25 charge! I contacted them TWICE and gave them copies plus my address to mail the $7 to. Never in my life have I enjoyed a bar so much. This bar has quickly become my favorite hangout on the weekends & the main reason for this is Frank. He is without a doubt the best, most personable and hilarious bartender that I have EVER encountered, and he really goes the extra mile to make my experience great every single time. I started coming here a few months ago & now I have both mine & my boyfriends family wanting to come here every weekend to drink great beer and to see Frank. Also, the food is excellent & the beer selection is phenomenal here. Definitely give this place a shot-it is the best! read more
