Dr Toriumi saved my life! He is a freaking genius and the closest thing I know to a saint on Earth. I would hate to think that others in comparatively hopeless situations might be dissuaded by some of the negative reviews online and hence I feel compelled to write this review for their benefit. I suffered physically and psychologically for the past 3 years after a so-called doctor put a 1cm hole through my septum and for reasons I will never understand removed a significant amount of my bone and cartilage without my consent and sought to conceal it from me. No doctor I saw in those 3 traumatising years could offer any solution to actually stop the chronic facial pain, debilitating breathing difficulties (at times akin to being suffocated with a pillow) and relentless nasal and sinus infections this injury left me with. On top of this, my nose looked collapsed and hideous and my once beautiful skin was severely damaged. I was told by another leading expert in the field that any attempt to surgically repair my deformed nose would quite possibly result in my nose rotting off entirely and I should seek to live the best life I could in the circumstances because things could be a whole lot worse. There was also a long period when I had to worry I had some potentially terminal and disfiguring autoimmune disease that caused my perforation and nasal deformities due to my so-called doctor's reprehensible lack of 'transparency'. I was living my worst nightmare. This all changed when Dr Toriumi kindly made time to see me on very short notice when he was in Australia as a guest speaker at a conference and to my utter disbelief told me he could fix it all. He looked me in the eyes, actually listened to me and I could tell he genuinely cared. I really don't understand some of the reviews that state he is arrogant or cold- no doctor or stranger has ever shown me such respect, kindness and warmth as he did that day and the numerous times I have seen him since then. He is the personification of humility and I loved his bedside manner from our very first meeting. A month later I flew from Australia to Chicago and he spent 6.5 hours delicately closing my perforation and repairing and rebuilding my butchered nose and skin with meticulous precision. The aftercare was amazing. Due to the complexity of the issues he repaired and distance to my home country, I stayed in Chicago for 7 weeks and he literally checked my nose on average every second day or sometimes every day in that time (despite the fact no actual complication has eventuated in my recovery to date). Dr Toriumi gave me peace of mind for the first time in 3 years and I trust him implicitly. He has given me the most beautiful looking, symmetrical and completely functional nose and I can't believe the miracle he performed on my skin. I look and feel like myself again. It is a dream come true. While it feels like a miracle, it was no fluke. Dr Toriumi is without doubt the most hardworking, talented and gifted rhinoplasty surgeon that has ever existed in the world by a long shot and I thank God that my prayers led me to him. Writing this review is extremely difficult. I am a patient advocate and work with a nonprofit dedicated to improving outcomes for patients navigating complex reconstructive surgery. I am sharing my experience because I believe patients deserve honest information. I underwent surgery with Dr. Dean Toriumi in December 2025. This was not simply cosmetic--the documented goals included correcting my nasal deviation and improving my breathing. During a virtual consultation attended by a friend, Dr. Toriumi described my concerns as very fixable. He said my narrow upper nasal bones could be widened, my deviation would be corrected, and I would breathe much better. Based on those representations, I consented to an extensive reconstruction using cartilage harvested from my rib and ear, at a cost of approximately $70,000. I am not yet one year postoperative. My nose remains significantly deviated, my breathing has not improved, and my upper nasal bones were not widened. I also now experience severe chronic headaches that sometimes make it difficult to work. At one scheduled postoperative appointment, Dr. Toriumi did not appear, despite my waiting for more than an hour. At the rescheduled postoperative appointment, I raised my worsening symptoms, but they were attributed to allergies without any diagnostic imaging being ordered. I therefore sought an independent evaluation and paid for a CT scan myself. The imaging confirmed that a significant septal deviation remained and also identified a sinus cyst and substantial changes involving my turbinate tissue. I wrote Dr. Toriumi a personal letter explaining the physical, emotional, and financial consequences of this experience. I described leaving graduate school in part because of the financial burden, working extremely long hours to pay down the debt, and continuing to experience pain at my rib-harvest site. I wanted him to understand that I am a human being--not simply a customer. I am a patient who placed my health, trust, and body in his care, and I deserved to be treated as one. I never received a personal response from him. I repeatedly contacted the office trying to arrange a meaningful conversation about my worsening symptoms. After constant follow-ups and delayed responses, and told that they simply forgot to respond to me, I was offered only one 15-minute appointment more than a month away. I want to be clear that I can only describe my own experience. For me, the surgery did not achieve its stated functional goals, my postoperative symptoms were not adequately investigated, and accessing meaningful follow-up care has been extremely difficult. If you are considering surgery with Dr. Toriumi, ask detailed questions about realistic outcomes, bring a trusted person or patient advocate, and obtain written confirmation of what will and will not be attempted. Dr Dean Toriumi is absolutely, hands down, the best surgeon... in the US! And he's a caring, talented, compassionate man who is backed by a friendly staff. I had a perforated septum repaired by a doctor who assured me "nothing here [on my face] would change. It is a simple procedure with just a little discomfort." Well, he lied, and I ended up with a collapsed nose that looked like a beak and left me unable to breathe through my nose. I consulted 2 different doctors in Philadelphia hospitals to get it corrected. Each one said that they could not fix it, but Dr Toriumi in Chicago could. The 3rd doctor I saw said he couldn't fix it. I started crying. The doctor said "I want to give you back your smile. If it was my mother, I would send her to Dr. Toriumi in Chicago." After sending Dr Toriumi my photos, I flew out to Chicago for a consultation. I cried when Dr Toriumi said it could fix it. But it would require 3 surgeries, 3-4 weeks apart, with skin flaps to graft my nose, and a harvest of cartilage from my ribs to reconstruct my nose. Dr Toriumi explained everything even showing me pictures of each surgery from his textbook. January 6, 2020, I had my first surgery. Due to my history with anesthesia, it was performed at St Joseph's hospital. I had skin flaps cut from my cheek that were grafted inside my nose. After 2 days, I was discharged and received very detailed instructions and supplies needed for my care. I saw him every 2-3 days for care in Chicago. I flew home after 11 days. The next 2 surgeries were also performed at St Joseph's where I had the same anesthesiologist. At the 3rd surgery, she told me she had never seen such a soft touch from a surgeon and was impressed with his delicate touch. I continued to follow Dr Toriumi's instructions exactly. I continued to fly out and back to Chicago for follow up appointments every 6-8 weeks. After I developed an infection, he summoned me to Chicago where he addressed it and I continued with more frequent follow up appointments and antibiotics and steroid injections. After 9 months, I was clear of infections, had a beautiful nose that worked, and was able to feel beautiful at my son's wedding. After another year of follow up appointments, the scar tissue buildup from my infections caused my airway to constrict and my one nostril to retract. Dr Toriumi performed another surgery in March 2022. To avoid infections, he recommended hyperbaric treatments. I completed 6 sessions before flying home. Zero infections this time! Now, 6 months following my 4th surgery, my nose is functional, symmetrical, and beautiful! Yes, it was a long journey. I will continue to see Dr Toriumi for follow ups as needed. It was also an expensive journey, but one that I would only take with Dr Toriumi. I am so grateful to all the doctors in Philly who knew that the only surgeon who could "give me back my smile" was Dr Toriumi. I decided to put up an another update. Unfortunately, I was required to do a facial ID scan and I could not be recognized so it sent me into a panic and depression cycle that I was honestly scared I was not going to come out of it... Also, I have been lucky enough to consult with one of the most prominent, upcoming reconstructive surgeons in the world in Germany and I found out 100 PERCENT that I will need a paramedian forehead flap with a forehead expander that will remain in for at least two to three months before I am able to have my surgery. My tip and columella will need to be replaced and there is 90 percent chance both both alar units will need to be replaced as well. It will be determined if they need to resurface the bridge as well so it can be one unit. This whole process will take approximately 6 months.. Forehead expanders are extremely painful and, of course, I will have scars everywhere all over my face but I will do anything at a chance to look normal and have some breathing restored. I did have a consult with Dr. Toriumi on April 4th and he said he could fix me which is just a complete delusion on his part. The doctor that I consulted with in Germany called my nose : "livid" "wood like", "severely contacted" and without bloodflow. My nose would turn black, rot off and die with another open surgery. My nose is completely incapable of stretching. Toriumi already performed 4 surgeries on me and, each one was so much worse than the last, My nose is completely is chopped off and my whole goal was too get a tip and length. He also destroyed all the definition on my bridge, why??? The bill still continues to rack over 70K and, although he offered me another surgery for FREE., I would never ever ever go to him FREE OR NOT FREE. He is not qualified to a complex rhinoplasty like how I am complex. He sent me some of this reconstruction photos and they were all of Moh's patients which is COMPLETELY different. I need a whole subunit replaced. I was treated HORRIBLY and without care by Toriumi. The doctor in Germany spent and an hour and a half with me for FREE in an attempt to understand my case. I still have not received my photos from Toriumi's office. I have also asked several times for a REFUND which I deserve, yes I do deserve this after my face and life have been COMPLETELY ruined as I no longer look NORMAL because of this doctor and I am completely ignored regarding this request. Unfortunately, I am waiting for financials from Germany but you better believe it will probably cost twice as much as Toriumi. My life has been laid waste in all ways possible by this so called best doctor in the world (Toriuni) I have been forced to retain counsel to at least get my photos. Also here is another little tidbit, Toriumi offered another patient at discounted surgery to get me back in his office. This is what you are dealing with. I am writing this to let others (who have had unsuccessful rhino/septoplastic surgeries) know that there is truly hope. I recently underwent a successful revision by Dr. Dean Toriumi of Chicago. After my first surgery, the physician told my husband that my septum kept "collapsing", and it was a lot worse than he had anticipated. He tried to reinforce it with spreader grafts using the cartilage from my nose. However, the grafts did not provide the necessary support, and my airway became even more occluded. Additionally, the grafts made my nose appear wider, the opposite of what I wanted. And, last, the permanent stitches that he used kept surfacing and would periodically have to be removed. To be clear I am not writing this to denigrate the other physician. He had performed other successful surgeries before. But in my case I needed someone who had a much greater level of experience and skill. That said I did quite a bit of research because I knew I was only going to do this once more, if that. Fortunately, a very well respected ENT from Memphis, Tennessee recommended Dr. Toriumi. And from day one of my revision my breathing has been restored. In addition, it's only been four months, and the redness from the first surgery (almost six years ago) is actually going away (which I thought would never happen). Further, I can see that my nose is taking the shape and size that I originally wanted. While I certainly wish that I had first seen Dr. Toriumi, I am grateful that I found him. And, frankly, with his expertise, it's as if this was my first and only surgery. I am eternally grateful to the Memphis ENT and my husband for leading me to Dr. Toriumi, and especially to Dr. Toriumi and his wonderful staff who have been so kind and professional throughout this entire journey. Dr Toriumi is an exceptionally skilled surgeon. Look no further. Following an accident I underwent Rhinoplasty re-building surgery not in the US, which caused many complications. Over a period of 20 years it became obvious that the long term effects of the surgery caused distortion despite corrective procedures. This series of events resulted in a nose that did not look normal (undersize) and considerable nasal, breathing restrictions. The stress from looks and a badly functioning nose caused me depression and negative self-consciousness....and then, after an extensive world-wide search, I found Dr. Dean Toriumi. He changed my life! I travelled halfway across the world for consultancy and surgery and throughout Dr Toriumi and his staff were fantastic. He explained to me the risks and possibilities. The first surgery was 14-hours from start to finish. The result was fantastic! He had taken two rib segments and cartilage from my ear to completely rebuild my nose. I could not have been happier. However, when I returned for a check-up after 4-months Dr Toriumi was not content with the breathing through one of the nostrils. I never thought I would ever get my life back after getting turned down by all the best surgeons out there, from Harley Street to Beverly Hills, until I had an online consultation with Dr Toriumi. He gave me hope. He said he had dealt with similar cases before, and he might be able to help me. I had necrosis after my second rhinoplasty revision. When my last surgeon took the implant out, he messed up the blood supply underneath the skin. On day seven, when he took the cast off, we found out the entire piece of skin on the tip of my nose was gone. Not only the skin had died, the cartilage and bones underneath had died with it. It was the worst day of my life and the devastation was indescribable. For two years, I've lived with a botched nose and seen different surgeons around the world and they all refused to touch my nose. I stayed in Chicago for three months in the summer of 2022. Dr Toriumi started to treat my scar with stem cell injections followed with hyperbaric oxygen treatment. He was doing needle testing around the scar to make sure the blood supply has fully come back. After two months of treatment, we were finally ready for the revision. The surgery went well and I left Chicago a month after. Now I'm post op eight months and doing well. I'm now 5 weeks post op and I know it's still very early to leave a review but I thought I could give some insight on my experience and update as I heal. I was in a really bad place with my nose. I had a horrible experience with a Canadian doctor who destroyed my nose. I couldn't breathe out of one side, it left me destroyed physically and mentally. I researched and researched for top revision surgeons and either flew to see them or had Skype calls with them. Every time I finished a consult I felt like Dr Toriumi was the only one who I wanted to fix me, so I went ahead and booked my surgery. During that time I would read reviews and chats and groups some of which didn't have good things to say about Dr T, which I can say my experience was the complete opposite. I'm so grateful for him and what he has done for me. I didn't let those reviews stop me because in my heart I only trusted him. Over the last few years I lost a part of me as a mom, wife and a friend to many around me because I couldn't deal with my outcome from my previous surgery. I sought a consultation with Dr. Dean Toriumi in 2016 to address a botched nose job, and my experience was extremely disappointing. He came across as rude, arrogant, and indifferent, making me feel like just another number. Earlier this year, I had a procedure on my nose performed by Dr. Toriumi to address a deviated septum that had begun affecting my breathing. Everything leading up to the surgery -- as well as the care during and after -- was extremely professional. I felt completely supported and well cared for throughout the entire process. I was given clear, detailed aftercare instructions, and I couldn't have felt more confident and safe with the pre- and post-operative care. After healing, my breathing improved significantly, and my nose has felt much better. During the process, I was also given a book Dr. Toriumi wrote about the anti-inflammatory diet. I implemented this diet after surgery, and it has since become a staple in my life. It has completely transformed my daily energy, mood, and overall lifestyle. My plaque psoriasis has nearly disappeared, and I'm able to do more in my day-to-day life. I highly recommend Dr. Toriumi's diet post-surgery. Dr. Toriumi performed my revision surgery on my rhinoplasty. I have to say, that he is an impeccable Doctor! He, and his staff have truly set the benchmark of how a plastic surgeons office ought to be. They have taken exceptional care of me since my surgery. Unlike my first rhinoplasty surgery experience. I had my first rhinoplasty at the age of twenty one. This was a major transformation from my original nose; I loved it at the time. However, as time elapsed I noticed, and felt as if the work was done impetuously. For example, there ended up being more cartilage on one side of the tip of my nose than the other. About a decade later I decided to have the work rectified. After much due diligence, my decision was to go with Dr. Toriumi. I did not want another botched surgery! THEY REMOVE BAD REVIEWS FYI. TLDR they lack customer service and are very prejudiced DISHONEST I consulted for a revision rhinoplasty. At that point the staff were familiar with my surgical history and complication after coming in a few times. I wanted a major change and mentioned that there was a small piece of Medpor. He stated he does not want to help because of this and likely due to his staff gossiping about me as I got frustrated with some of their unprofessional responses. I looked up his social media and found a recent case involving Medpor which leads me to believe that I was lied to and that he didn't want to deal with someone who with any history of complications and aspirations in wanting to look different. I sent inquired about that case and of course they are ignoring me. his daughter was also very dismissive and came off unprofessional with her antagonistic tone. They don't want to bother answering your questions in depth. I also asked why he isn't certified with the ASPS and his nurse Pat said "because he doesn't want to". Real professional. read more

Don't consider the fake reviews or the reviews by primary patients if you are complex. He is as far from an artist as you can get. Terrible doctor that will either destroy your face or make you aesthetically less pleasant. Look at the various websites posted about him. In addition, there are countless unhappy patients who are too afraid or too ashamed to post after spending ungodly amounts of money only to be made much much worse. He experiments on living subjects without their consent especially patients that have had many surgeries. I had my lateral crural strut grafts removed and replaced with grafts made of scar tissue and my tip excised (he said it was a scar excision) without my consent. No one will help me but every single doctor ,except one I believe he reached out to , told me to never go back to him. I came to Dr. Toriumi after years of careful research because I had already had five botched nose jobs, including the botched job from a supposedly expert, top revision rhinoplasty plastic surgeon in NYC. Needless to say, every botched job got successively worse. It was a horrific, 34 yearlong nightmare. A month or so ago. I was loseing hope. As I have a complex nose case. That has been turned down by dozens of doctors. As with any medical situation you try to find some hope when people tell you no. So I called Dr.Toriumis office. Spoke to pat she got me to see DR.Toriumi same day virtually until I'm able to see him in person cause of Covid. Dr.Toriumi spoke to me I think at least for a hour. Listened to me and gave me some hope that I needed. I wanted to write this cause Dr.Toriumi didn't have to do what he did a month ago for me. So he deserves this positive five star review.
