This camp was rude, unprofessional and incredibly inappropriate. It has treated my friends and my…read moreparents horribly. As a camper, i had an okay experience. There's a pool, different "specialized camps", and plenty of opportunities to make friends. As a Jr. CIT (basically an employee that still pays ~2,000 dollars to attend the camp), it was a whole different story. A couple of friends and I were Jr. CITs for the summer of 2017 and worked under the supervision of the directors. Again, this was a camp so during lunch and such the Jr. CITs would hang around the lawn and eat some lunch. One day, my friends and I got called down to the office, and were told that we were spotted climbing the fence out of the campus and then seen climbing back in. This was an absurd accusation as neither my friends nor I had been in the vicinity of the fence. The directors would hear none of our explanation. When I was trying to explain we had done nothing wrong, I was interrupted and called a liar. (Imagine: a 50+ year old male director calling a 7th grader a liar.) However, they did take the time to let the one Caucasian girl off the hook, leaving her free to go while my friends and I (all of whom are racial minorities) to take the blame. Now other than the fact we were accused with no evidence whatsoever, with no opportunity to defend or explain, other than the fact only the racial minorities of the group seemed to be implicated, and other than the fact my friends and I were paying 2,000 dollars to attend the camp, the directors were also incredibly rude and dismissive of my parent's concerns. When my mother called about this fiasco, she was rudely brushed off, asked by one of the directors (Bill/William Darling) "What can we do about it?" in an incredibly rude manner. After calling and being ignored and having my mother's time wasted, Mr. Darling said he would issue an apology to the girls. When I came to camp the next day, the apology turned into a warning speech. We were told we were off the hook for our actions and that we should be happy. The whole speech given was incredibly condescending and obnoxious. Never was I issued an apology for a very wrong accusation, never were we explained why the minorities were the only ones implicated, never were we treated as real, paying customers (which we were) and never was my mother apologized to for the horrible way she was treated. After speaking to a few of the other paid employees, much of them felt much of the same and experienced similar interactions from the directors. I would strongly advise you not to go to this camp. The directors (the aforementioned Bill Darling and also another by the name of Kristi Kallam are extremely rude, inappropriate and not worth the time of day.

There was a time when Ms. Tyesha would ask me when I was having another baby and I said NEVER! Then came along Cassidy. And I remember while I was pregnant how excited she was to have Cassidy in her class. I remember the first time she held cass and how nervous she was. From 6 weeks old to one years old she has helped raise my baby. I can say she has fed my child even clothed (she gave Cassidy a gift card). Now I know Cassidy is no longer in her class but she will always be my baby teacher. Every morning Cassidy runs into Darlene's and the first person she goes to is Ms.Tyesha and she gets her hugs in. And best believe before she leave that center for the day she runs into her classroom and gets her goodbye hugs in as well. I love and appreciate how she loves on my daughter and how my daughter is comfortable enough to love on her as well. Now let me speak on Ms. Jay for a moment. I met her halfway through when she was in Ms. Tyesha class and I've seen how Cassidy is with her and how at ease she is around her. She can be sitting on the floor and cass will walk up and sit on her. I love the fact she knows cass love to eat and a big snacker and how she will sneak her an extra snack because cass will start crying when her food is gone. It really be the little things she does that I catch and I know my child is in good hands. Like if cass is wearing white she will change her outfit so she doesn't mess it up. I'm grateful that she was the one to stopped giving Cassidy her pacifier. And she helped with that transition because I didn't know how to do it. I'm grateful that she is entering the toddler stage with me and thankful for her help in raising Cassidy as well. I know this two paragraphs turned Into a mini essay fast. It's hard to write a sentence without wanting to say everything. I'm grateful for all the women at Darlene's even Ms. Bree because she was cass teacher at one point. And I love how she filmed cass first steps. I'm going to end it but I just want you to know that you employed some wonderful women. And I can say my child definitely has the best teachers! Sincerely, Cassidy mom

If this is the same camp that I was the 3rd generation to attend it's amazing!…read more My sibling and I use to go every year when we were kids for about a month. I just thought of it at this moment when I hung up the phone with a friend that is sending her son to camp. It's one of the best choices my family ever made. I think I was social anyway but I truely believe this camp helped me develop extensive skills and aided in an open mind. It was mandatory that you engage in 3 activities everyday, you could not just sit around. You had camp counselors that you called aunt and uncle "such in such" which developed a personal and trusting relationship. I swam, fished, boated, archery, baseball....everything! There were dances and camp fires, your parents would send you "care packages" which they let you decide if you wanted to share or not but I know yoi what I'm getting at. You had to make your bed and clean up after yourself, they helped with laundry. If yiu got sick you would go to "jyro" (sp?) and you would receive around the clock care.... which is actually the reason I love Apricot juice!! When the nurse hands a kid a glass of thick, pulpy off-orange in color, you're like what the hell is that! I watch my sugar intake as an adult but when I get some I slurp it down. We ate in the mess hall all together and it was like a meeting with all camp attendees. We would then dispose our waste and they would weigh it after so we could see how much we wasted. I mean we're talkin 1980's we were already being mindful of waste. It's been over 2 decades so I have no idea how this place is run but if it is anything like what I described I would highly recommend you goet a vacation and send your kids to camp. I think I have Golden Slipper Club Camp to thank for also aiding in the development of my independence.
