After talking to him a bit more about the reason behind the tattoo and what I really wanted it to look like, he drew it up in front of me. In all honesty, I was shocked. The lines were perfect, even though they were very thin and small and the entire design looked gorgeous. A few minutes later, he had the room ready to go and I hopped on in. The room was extremely clean (as was the entire place) and he talked me through the process (it was my first tattoo). He was incredibly nice and patient with me and waited until I was ready before he started. The tattoo was done in no time and really was not that pricey for a rather intricate design. I cannot say enough great things about this place and about Todd himself!

I ended up having another "famous" artist finish the sleeve whos work came out great and at half the price (and time). The worst is that Jose gave me some BS about the scarring being heavy ink saturation that would go away, if you mess up just be a man and admit it. Jose is good at design/drawing but doesn't know how to correctly do the application of a tattoo, he is also way too slow almost felt like a money grab.

My friend was getting her second cartilage done (she…read morehad had them done before but it had closed) and she pierced the wrong one (top instead of bottom), but did the right one at no extra charge and gave her free earrings for her third lobes as well-she was very genuine and felt bad but also we were talking to her so maybe we were distracting. I got a cartilage and a naval piercing. Honestly, my friend and I both say this: her ear and cartilage piercing don't really hurt at all-way less than anywhere I've gotten it done previously. And she's very very nice. For my naval piercing, the original clamp and then needle was done very well, didn't really hurt to much either. Very quick. However, when she went to put the jewelry in following the needle, the needle slipped out and she tried to keep shoving the jewelry through, even though there was no needle to guide it anymore. Ouch! She then re-clamped me and I thought we was just going to re-pierce it but she was really trying to save it. She then lined up the holes from the original piercing with the clamp and tried to shove it through-jewelry only-again. This was very painful (even more painful than when I broke my arm). She then realized it wasn't going to work so she re-pierced it, the jewelry followed smoothly, and it was fine. But the pain throughout shoving the jewelry was really bad, except the actual piercing and re-piercing themselves. She felt genuinely really bad and gave me a free belly ring for when it heals. I at first kind of declined because I'm not really about trying o just get something for free out of it, but she insisted and said she had to "make it right," which was really awesome. She was honest and didn't just try to play anything off which was awesome. So other than the mistakes and pain, she made up for it in the end which I think is very important rather than just playing it off or not caring. Recommend her!

OVERALL:: EXTREMELY clean and sterile. newly renovated. all custom work. great artists. nice neighborhood and environment(next to hip conveniently placed coffee house) I've had tattoo work done here,and i must say(not that other tattoo shops are all filthy or anything) but this by far is the CLEANLIEST tattoo shop i've ever walked into. As much as they pride themselves on their artwork i can also tell they do with being a sterile comfortable place to be tattooed. Everything from the surrounding area(this is on a cute little strip next to a coffee house)to the waiting area,to the work areas are all very neat,clean,and upkept.Everything looks pretty newly renovated and everything is neatly organized and sterile(handwashing stations,etc). They have some pretty respectable artists,from personal experiencei've only had work done by CODY Wallenius(co owner),who is a very talented artist with a modern style(but can also knock out very awesome traditional style work as well). Emily is their piercer,who i've not been pierced by personally but from what i can tell is very serious in what she does,and about the CORRECT way to pierce and all the precautions and care instructions. The prices can be talked with amongst artists,there are no charge by the hours or pieces to choose from,compared to some locations in the chicagoland area i'd say they are very decent on the price ranges and don't charge up the wazoo like some shops closer to the city might take advantage of. this shop has no flash art work on walls to pick from or anything,it is strictly 'come here with an idea,they will sketch it out and make it a unique piece just for you' which upon that, the price would be probably be determined im assuming on size and detail and what have yous. either way,i highly recommend having your body modified here! talented people and sterile environment! read more

I was referred to Dead Serious Tattoos by a friend and stopped in as a 'Walk-In' one evening just to see if I could get a semi colon tattooed to my wrist. I lucked out that day because Eddy had time to do it for me. A simple tattoo, yes, but he did a spectacular job. There was a reason I got that particular tattoo on that day. I'd lost my only child, my 25 year old son, on 6/27/15. I suffer from severe depression and it was always my son who helped pull me through my darkest hours. I did it for him. I did it because he was no longer able to pull me through. I touched base with Eddy again, this time because I wanted a tattoo to commemorate my son's life. We spoke through email and over the phone, I had only a few ideas but he had many suggestions. Today I got my tattoo and I can't even begin to say how pleased I am with the result that Eddy came up with. It's beautiful, to say the least. It amazes me that this man can take one simple idea and come up with a masterpiece. The shop itself is VERY clean and appears to be quite sterile as well. Their prices are affordable, especially considering some of their masterpieces that they have done on people in the past. I know where I'm going for my next tattoo. Coming to Dead Serious wasn't the place where I was initially getting my tattoo done. The first place I went to was closed but having seen the good reviews for this place, I thought it was worth checking it out. The location of the place is right next to a low key, dim lit coffee shop (good to fill up on food before getting tattoo work done) and the area has an Amsterdam-esque feel, which I liked personally. As I entered the shop, I noticed the cleanliness of it as well as the vibrant colors. I had John as my artist. Very good/talented artist who made my first tattoo experience worthwhile and he made me feel comfortable. Nice guy Eddie Is a craftsman In the old school sense of the word. His artistry comes from a dedication of service to his clients because he has a true love for tattooing. You can tell by the artwork that allot of personal care and attention went into your tattoo my friends who happen to have a tattoo by Nice guy Eddie or someone on the Dead serious staff it is always their most favorite tattoo or if they didn't have personal attachment to the meaning of their tattoo it is still their most favorite artwork. I had a unique situation. As a young breast cancer survivor, I went through hell just to survive. My kids were young, and my disease was particularly aggressive. Fast forward 11 years, and I'm alive and well. And after multiple reconstruction surgeries, I decided against the medical nipple tattoo that had failed me once. (I had a mastectomy, where my OEM nipple was taken. Lol.) I met with Cody in the fall, and he worked tirelessly to design something that was tasteful and a bit artsy. Great atmosphere, incredibly skilled and knowledgeable artists. I've had work done elsewhere and I know people who run plenty of other shops and this is by far the cleanest place you'll ever get stuck with a needle. I've been coming here for almost 5 years and I don't plan on going anywhere else. I just had a piece done by Michael Kennedy (highly recommended) great eye for detail and a light hand as well. Most definitely going back to see the Dead Serious crew again soon. I got my first (and currently only) tattoo here in Feb 2012. My puece was custom and Cody did my tattoo. When I tell you these guys are about quality and superior service... THEY REALLY ARE!! My tattoo was on my entire side so I was a little exposed, Cody put up a divider for privacy and when all the other workers needed to ask/tell/show him anything, they all either kept their faces turned, or spoke from the other side. I am really ready to get another tattoo. I have another custom concept in mind; needless to say, Cody will be my tattoo artist. Hope I am able to get back to the shop soon!! read more

Incredible work and studio. Cannot stress the professionalism and quality of the work. I came to Clayton Bond with an idea of the piece and he sketched out a draft in a few days and we were tattooing it by the weekend. He added to the design I brought in and it's really one of a kind. Neal did my husband's forearm tattoo also. Colorful and flawless. All were done a couple of years ago and still looking fresh, no fading. Highly recommend.

Today Illinois crossed off my states to get tattoos in. I wanted the shop's full logo on my arm but…read moreartistically it would not fit with my other tattoos . A Great compromise worked up by John. He REALLY worked with me to make me happy and get most of the elements I wanted. I was Probably a horrible client today but I was treated with real class. I would absolutely recommend this shop. Joe takes real good care of his clients and the clients of his shop. Awesome work on short notice from out of town.
